sounds like the team in general were shit.mcgovern is a scapegoat imo,as is aljofree and paynter.

JP really disappointed me today.  Anyone else see him getting a bit stroppy at the final whistle towards some town fans?  Appeared to mouth something along the lines of "wanker" toward them.

Im not however saying he was the worst as several played badly today.

Thought that JP was average when a number including Aljofree & Peacock were decidely below average.

i thought the whole team was awful, yet against Tranmere we know how good these same players can be, lets not panic, we know we would lose games during a 46 game season, YES 46 GAMES!!! lets forget this 1 game and move on

I only mentioned respect cause of his reaction.  None of the others reacted the same way when the crowd gave them a hard time thats all.

i thinj he was singled out a little, although timlin had just as bad a game imo. and peacock was gash. its just the fact the left back slipped twice allowing mcgovern free run at goal both times yet we didnt create anything that makes it seem worse

I don't really know what happened as wasn't near us, just saw a bit of an altercation thats all.  Anyway lets hope we can move on from this and get a win v Colchester next weekend!

Its very easy to take frustrations a bit too far, especially after a few drinks so I guess whatever was said will be water under the bridge by next weekend.

To be fair to the chap, wer were right in the corner by the corner flag and we were encouraging him towards the end and he seemed to appreciate that.

I remember doing that chant a good 5-6 times.

Malpas had a good few chants in his favour and in fairness has deserved it, he was probably a victim of circumstances today, you can't really argue with his line-up but if certain players don't bother playing then you will have problems.
Any way onto Mr Mcgovern, I'll be the first to admit I don't really like him anyway but today finally pushed me over the edge. His attitude stinks, he only bothers when it suits him and he's had chance after chance to impress.
He was only marginally worst than Aljofree for example but at least they walked off the pitch without antagonising the fans. It was a local derby and they fucked it, they should expect a bit of a backlash of the supporters when losing 2-0. If Mcgovern thinks he is better than us then he should fuck off and do an Arron Brown....

its all well and good slating McGovern, but who should replace him then? Everyone moans when Easton was played on the right, Marshall has played 10mins in league football and that was today! we have no one else

i think its a bit harsh on mcgovern, yeh he played bad, like some of the others. doesn't warrant having abuse shouted at him though. I was there in the corner too and think maybe people are over reacting a little bit. We should get behind the team no matter what, look at how good our situation is compared to last year.

Therein lies the problem at the moment - no competition makes JP complacent.

Having no competition is no excuse, if he can't be arsed to play then he shouldn't bother turning up, I'm sure Easton would have at least grafted on the wing today. But to have JP in centre mid ahead of Easton second half was pure madness

Not saying it's an excuse, he was balls today and competition or no competition he should be doing better, I just hope that when the competition hots up he'll get his arse in gear - I can't believe this is the same player who was instrumental in Wednesday's promotion a few seasons ago.

As I've said in the match thread - the only reason he stayed on was because he's supposed to be able to take a corner...

im not going to agree that JPM was any worse than any of our other players, hes never going to be like macca and skin the full back but his delivery in the most part is good, today was an off day for the whole team not just McGovern.
Also is it his fault he was put into centre midfield? what would u rather he do, demand to be replaced by Easton? he played out of position to do a job for the team, its down to Malpas if he feels McGovern would do a better job in there than Easton

The decision to bring on marshall for timlin really frustrated me earlier. I thought a straight swap for easton would have been the best bet. Rather than throwing marshall (Football league debutant away from home and 1 nil down) into the mix. Just wanted to point out i thought it was a piss poor decision (in my opinion)

i agree with Malpas to put Marshall on, we was playing 10 men, get a natural wide man on the right, we had one on the left then we could stretch the game, im not saying i agree with jpm in the middle ahead of eastie tho

Not sure what game you were watching  as Mcgovern put in a shitful of chances but Coxy and Peacock werent on form today. As for our defence it was poor on the day. McGovern got rattled because as usual our shit fans were shouting dogs abuse at him and he does seem to be the scapegoat. Mcgovern doesnt make the decision where he plays.

to be fair if JPM did call some of our fans wankers, pricks or twats then he is pretty much spot on.

I think you'll find that "JP disappointed me today" was an opinion, hence the word 'me' used in my sentence.  My post hardly reflects what game I was watching does it.  Everyone has opinions, most of which different.

JPM was pretty good yesterday tbf. A lot better than most of our players anyway.

It just goes to show how reputations can protect players from abuse etc because Mcgovern created more than Macnamee, who again away from home was ineffective. I thought the majority of the team were pretty poor, including Mcgovern, but the behaviour of some of our fans towards him at the end of the game was shocking.

Equally shocking was Malpas decision to play him in the middle over Easton, one of our most consistent players last year.

mcnamees crosses were better than mcgoverns, we just never game the ball to him! cheltenham doubled up on him and we didnt take advantage of that fact

 Let's face it, the quality on crosses, corners, free kicks yesterday was little better than Blue Square South standard.

 What do these fellas do all week? Sure isn't working on basic skills.

But if Cheltenham can figure it out and double up on him therefore nulifying him, so can every other team in this league, and we don't, even at home, use the fact that he's being doubled up on to our advantage. Casal isn't encouraged to get round him.

Practice cringe-worthy goal celebrations, and there won't be much need for those if they carry on like yesterday.  ::)

you're making a change to chase the game or to close the game down.

Yesterday should have seen Marshall on for JPM and Easton for Timlin.Some Cheltenham fans

I think he's going to get more aggro from the fans to be honest. Theres things about McGovern that really annoy me. He never holds his hand up when he plays a bad ball, always moaning at other players. Says me, moaning about him. But honestly, you can see it happening again because he is mouthy on the pitch.

Just seems such a waste we cant have Easton in the team. Hes not a right winger, but he gets on with it and runs non stop, and hes scored a few goals from there as well.

McGovern had a big bust up with Adi Williams in training during the week, bit of useless info for u :)

My money would be on Adi to win that one. Despite liking a drink and being very easy to injure, he is a big unit and could probably rip limbs out of their sockets.

McGovern was pretty decent on Saturday I thought, though he was up against a useless Alan Wright.  He looked dangerous and was perhaps a little unlikely.  Unfortunately, the attitude is just something we'll have to bare.  It was a worry when he was mouthing off at fans, but I'd like to put that down to frustration at losing a game we should have won...

I don't Reg, but I was reading about that the other week in Bobby Johnstone's biography (It was mentioned in the a brief history of Selkirk FC chapter).  Lovely little town Selkirk and well worth a visit during the common riding, when pretty much the whole town go on an all day session.  We started at 6 in the morning and finished at closing when I was up there for it!  Great day!
