Title: Sam Parkin
Post by: mexico red on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 11:29:23
Has been covered a thousand times but.....

with Luton getting relegated and super Sam starting to hit the back of the net again, surely a cheeky bid wouldnt go amiss.

The thought of Cox and Parkin on the end of Macnamee's crosses is fucking lush, and we all know is heart is still firmly set here?

I think he should quit football and become an actor.

They could remake Barbarella but with Parkin in the lead role. That would be super sexy.

I'd agree if we could be sure about his injury having fully healed - The last thing we could afford is Corr mk2.

How many goals would we have scored with Parkin and Mooney as a strike force with McNamee ?

I've given this one a bit of thought, and come down on the no side.

When SSP left here it was on a 4 year deal probabaly at least trebling his wages.  When he left Ipswich Luton were doing OK in the CCC, so they must have at least matched his contract, so by my estimate he's a year left, on a fair wedge.

Looking, at him on the box briefly, he's now a very big boy,  of course this could be lack of match fitness,  but we've a couple of expensive crocks for next season in the Chavmeister and Corr.  We can't afford a third.

In seriousness I normally disagree when this gets suggested, but it does seem like he's hitting some sort of form again. I'm always worried that if we do sign him and the magic's gone then my soul will decay slightly.

Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 11:39:02
Normally i would've said it's not a good idea, because it could ruin our memories of him, however. Corr should be in a hospital and Parkin, if he returned, would, in all likelihood be better than what we already have. So why not?

I think it might be worth a shot now he has started scoring again. If he's currently on big wages he might be willing to take a pay cut to stay up in League 1, especially if it was with us. Obviously there is always the worry our fond memories of him may be tainted

But he was always fit playing for us. Therefore, he should come back to STFC and he will be fine.

There may be a tiny hole in that logic

he was blading when he was here and should have shaved it off years ago.

i'd love him to come back

Baldness is surely when you lose your hair naturally.  He chose to get rid of it therefore hes a skinhead not a baldy bonks!

Title: Sam Parkin
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 12:56:11
He's not bald he's a skinhead thug.

If Malpas doesn't sign Sam Parkin, he doesn't care about the fans. However, if he does, it's simply a PR move to try and put himself in our good books... Cheeky Scottish bastard.

Malpas out.

Title: Sam Parkin
Post by: janaage on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 12:57:48
So if you go to the hairdressers and say I want it all off.

Whilst they cut your hair, you would technically be balding, for around 10 minutes.

I agree with Lady, it's just a skinhead.  Although SSP has a skinhead to hide the fact he's going bald.

surely having no hair makes you bald, whether through choice or nature?

Title: Sam Parkin
Post by: Tails on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 13:04:46
It depends, surely you would only be temporarily bald as if it was through choice it would grow back and you'd be 'upgraded' to a skinhead?

I think Sam is maybe half and half. He's bald by choice, but half of it can be converted to some kind of hair.

i think he'd bang in the goals if we bought him back. luton have eventually got him playing and perhaps with a full injury free pre-season we'd get at least 35 games out of him.

even if we didn't and he was injured, it'd be ace just having him at the club 8)

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 16:47:53
He's still only 27/28 isn't he? I think it's a great idea to try and get him back here. He's probably scored just as many as Corr and he is getting back to proper fitness now having been out for long periods. Think he's gone a good 6 or 7 games without getting injured which beats Corr on that front. Let's be honest can he really be as bad as the man who never drunk milk as a kid? I think a swap deal is the best bet. 50k and Corr for Parkin in return seems a fair deal to me.

Is Corr's contract up at the end of the season? What about Paynter's?

I'd rather have a better central midfielder and get a new right winger and another left back in.

Sol would be a good shout and he appears to be getting back to the sort of form after that nasty stroke where he was winning the plaudits and being described as the best left back outside of the Premiership.

I’d love to get that Parkin one back as well even if it was just for decoration he would be an outstanding capture.  Can’t see it unless two from Corr, Paynter or Sturrock move on.

EDIT: You're all a bunch of pedantic bastards sometimes.  :D

I think SSP has scored 5 in 6 games recently for Luton and scored again the weekend, if he stays with them for next season (I suspect he will after all his injuries - although he may be out of contract though) and stays fit I think he could be the difference between them having a promotion push he is a proven goal scorer and it has been shown in L2 if you can score goals regular that is more than half the battle.

Not sure if him returning here may ruin his legendary status though I will listen out for JFW...I bet she dosen't do it though

from BBC website

Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton has quashed speculation that former Robins star Sam Parkin will be returning from Luton next season.

Fitton says that manager Maurice Malpas is targeting younger players.

"As a philosophy, it's very difficult for people to go back," Fitton told BBC Radio Swindon. "That's the problem."

"It's not that he's not a good player. But the history of players returning to clubs and succeeding isn't very good and you need to be mindful of that."

Parkin had been linked with a return to the County Ground after Luton's relegation from League One was confirmed.

But Swindon boss Malpas has been scouting Premier League reserve matches in recent weeks in a bid to spot teenagers who will soon be released, as he aims to build a 22-man squad for the next campaign.

Usually tails you will be right BUT lets assume the following are here next year still and look at this years suspensions/injurys

Corr-Always injured
Roberts-as above
Ifil-Suspended
Vincent--likely to have a month off
Comminges-get a suspension
Peacock-all the above
Paynter-Suspensions

We need a squad of 100

Prepare to be amazed then...they're both under contract.  The queue of clubs looking to sign long term injured players is quite short.

If we were to get an ex player back, I'd prefer Fallon...wasn't so long ago he left,  which seems to be the deciding factor as to whether they're any use on return,  and more importantly he's been mostly fit, without being over worked.

They are absolutly no use to us Reg.I know they are under contract but based on lengh of injury and in the case of corr how many appearances we are likely to get out of him we are likely to get 20 games at a push from each of them? Cut your losses pay the contract and fuck them off imo

Having paid a fair chunk of cash I can't see Luton letting the big man go on the cheap unless they want to offload him from their wage bill.  Even still I’d imagine they’ll be aiming for an instant return to league one and won’t want to lose player of that calibre.

The whole debate over players going back never working out is usually because the player is either tailing off his career or the side he left has evolved since the departure and become a better team in his absence. Thomas Gravesen is a good case in hand of being one of Everton’s key players when he left for Madrid, the side evolved in his absence and he’s now become a square peg in a round hole this season.

I can’t imagine if Corr, Sturrock and Payner are still here that we would stump up cash for Sam.  Shame but hey ho.

Not sure whether he's suggesting he's off or not (reading between the lines)

Yawn. I really don't want him to come back. There must be oh so many strikers available without living in the Parkin past.

Why dont we get Horlock, Moncur and Lee Barnard........Barnard played better during that legends match than the entire time at the club.....the old blonde barnet has gone now though!!

Now's not the time to look back we should be looking forward, although I wouldn't turn Sam down should he come a begging (which isn't gonna happen).

Not sure about this living in the past thing. Unfortunately we never had a regular goal scorer last season (Cox was the closest thing to it). That might be why the fans are keen to have him back? Youve move someone on sometimes to get someone else in.

LucienSanchez, you say there must be so many strikers around. Then how come Colchester just paid £400,000 for a player worth about £150,000? Gills just signed Mark McCammon on a 3 year deal. Although to be fair that is in a class of its own of stupidness.

I take your point, it's just i'd like to think that our scouting repetoire could extend further than people who were once good for us... i'm positive there are more strikers from reserve teams above us, Scotland, Europe who we could be getting in on trial.

How many did he get last year?

5 goals from 12 starts, that equivalent to about 19 goals a season if he played the whole season, not bad returns for an injured player. Yes I know I am ignoring his sub appearances as he wasnt fully fit for those games.

if he was within our wage structure(or agreed to be) and is fully fit and over his injuries,
we should at least be enquiring about him.
infact i'd stretch the wages a bit to secure him as he's worth more than any of the other players

And when was the last time he played a whole season?

The super Sam bumming needs to stop. he is not the same player as when he was here, and certainly not worth 5k a week.

Round about the same time Christian Roberts or Barry Corr played a full season.

Regardless, hes a finisher. A full fit Sam Parkin is an assest to any club in this division because with a full season he will get you 20 goals.

Of course I wouldnt break the wage budget for him and it would be a gamble, but one that could pay off and would be worth it.

I bumped the thread to show a picture of a miserable looking Parkin picture - not saying "sign him up"

He did a very good job at Swindon - I think we're entitled to follow his progress
