Walking in and out The County Ground Saturday, I realised something. 'Ready to go' by Republica and 'Moving On Up' my M People have probably never been off the play list since their release in the mid 90s.

With technology moving through tapes, CDs, minidisc players, MP3 players and streaming.....Are we still mainly working off of a 90s compilation album that refuses to be worn out? How does that even happen?

Good for the old nostalgia kick but it does make me laugh.

I've just had The Boys are Back in Town on in my car. Some songs, and Republica is right up there, are just pure Swindon nostalgia for me. I'd be gutted if they went. Whenever we've tried to 'get down with the kids' with something different it has killed the pre-match buzz. Similarly, nothing better than walking away from a game to the sounds of Status Quo Rocking All Over The World... and I'm in my 30s! Let's hope the compilation tape holds out!

Yeah they are another two permanent fixtures. Can't say I ever hear any of these songs anywhere else.

Terrible. Needs updating. Is it on a tape deck?

What are the public broadcast rights costs and do you need to pay more to change the songs you play?

Once you answer that, you'll know the likelyhood of change!

They'll have a PRS license for the whole stadium. No specific cost and not track related.

Edit - They should have a PRS license!

Ready to go is class, could be club the anthem by now. We should invite Republica along for a long service award presented in the centre circle pre-match.

Republica are still going, as are M People and Status Quo in one form or another.

Is this what the club had in mind for a gig at the ground?

I was sent a pre-release copy of Ready to Go on cassette single by the record company back in 96.  Too Cool

Might be worth something these days if I had a fecking clue where it was, see also my On a Friday gig poster and ticket!

Ready to Go is played quite regularly on Absolute 90’s to be fair. Always brings a nostalgic smile.

Always weird hearing it on the radio though. It really needs to be enjoyed through Britain's tinniest PA system for the full experience. Doesn't sound right with any depth.

Does a PRS give you carte blanche on any songs by any artist?

just assumed you'd be limited to old shit without a premium
