Before the 2nd leg in the 2004 play off at Brighton, a couple of us were on Operations in southern Iraq and decided to ring Andy King up to wish him and the team well.  All credit to him, he spent some 15 minutes on the phone to us and talked about the match, but was more concerned about how we were getting on.  He even took the time in the pre match interview, live on Sky, to mention us even with everything going on.  I will never forget that.  RIP Andy.

Was not a fan of him as a person or manager but 58 is no age, RIP.

Great scout.

I remember he suffered a heart attack back in 2009 so was on borrowed time a bit.

What kind of comment is that?

Andy King

I didn't always appreciate you fully at the time but by God those times when you were manager would have been absolutely dire without someone of your great humour, honesty and eye for talent.  You brought fun and fight to what frankly was a shithouse club at the time.

I hope you now find a little corner of Havana in Heaven and inject some real Kingy laughter.

I had another look at that 1977 fa cup tie and he's mentioned in the commentary. I remember the game but don't remember him playing against us.

Nice manager. RIP Andy.

Yep, he's number 7 and takes the corner before the second goal.  Good to see opposing centre forward were allowed 5 yard tap ins all that time ago

Andy always had a very individual grasp on the English language. My favourite post-match comment was this anatomy-bending metaphor:

"The Achilles heel that has stood out like a sore thumb all season has come back to bite us in the bum."

RIP.

Amen.  Sums up my own feelings very well.

RIP Andy.

Proper old skool stuff...

Gunn would get his revenge later in the season by denying Bambi a perfectly good goal in te home PO v Wigan

I remember at a preseason friendly (Aylesbury i think), one of the people i was with asked him if he had been working out over summer as he was a bit thinner, he said 'no, its just the AIDS' then proceeded to nick my mates lighter.

Great bloke

Good memories of Andy who was manager when I got my first season tickets.  I seem to remember he said something about he didn't like 'fanny-flicking' players or football. Funny.
