Just got back from Newport as the girlfriend lives there. I never thought I'd say this, but the place looks quite nice. EU development money well spent.

The course...or Newport itself?

Newport is on the up.....the football team are going for it also.

You still can't make a silk purse out of a cow's arse though.

My Sis-in-Law lives in Newport, and fuck me, what a depressing dump it is. And I notice its trying to call itself a City.....

And if you're travelling to the Ryder Cup (Arriba/leefer), beware the 50 mph limit all the way from the Second Severn Crossing all the way to Newport. Not that you'll be going that fast anyway.......

Well you wouldn't exactly find an 18 hole golf course in the middle of the town centre, would you?

Plenty around in the World...Dubai being one(take your point Sam)

You would be suprised how many courses are in or near the centre...St Andrews is part of the Town centre these days...as the popularity of golf grew.....the town gradually built around it.

Thanks for the advice Pumbaa...but as i said i am going by train Cool.....will take me 40 mins only.
And arriba...dont forget its cash only on the toll.....i am guessing you have crossed it a thousand times as indeed i have.

Am I alone in wanting to heave every time I see a photo shoot of (mostly) middle aged men wearing matching blazers & slacks?  The chummy smugness of it all completely does my head in.

That's still better than what the US are wearing this year, and what they wore on the final day in '99.
