Good luck to him. It is not the end of the world as we know it. PB will have other targets as a replacement, and if he hasn’t then I expect him to be straight on the blower as soon as he found out that he was signing for that sleeping Nottinghamshire giant.
I can imagine at L2 level the difference in money is marginal but when you’re not going to be making upwards of £50k per week £100 per week plus the promise of unknown blue sky bonuses would swing it in a short career. Less travel to be near family and friends, an easier ride from the chummy manager, cheaper housing, a bigger slice for his agent. Could be more reasons could be none of the ones i’ve suggested.
You never know, Mr. Brown may end up plucking some unknown World Cup stars from under the noses of Corporate F.C. clubs, with names we’ll never be able to pronounce and who’s abbreviated nick names will give us days of unbridled mirth discussing.

I think Reg is right on this one. If we can’t beat off the likes of Mansfield for the services of a bog standard L2 CB it does show up just where we are in the scheme of things right now.
Mansfield, ffs. Living the dream, eh Matt.
Don’t think elitism applies when you’re the ninth best team in L2.

Nor the eighth best one (like Mansfield), for that matter. Having said that, despite our own significant issues (such as having a shedload of injury-prone centre backs - mentioning no names) we had better form than them over the final 10 games. Largely because their manager hasn't got a fucking clue.

Well done for breaking the news before the Adver and even Chang for that matter. It's an interesting reversal of history.... in 85, Stags had a CH, who they wanted to keep, but we lured away using a very handsome wage package. That player went on to be, in my opinion, our second best post war player. 20 years ago, he was marking reasonably successfully the toothy Ronaldo, at the WC. Let's hope their acquisition is less successful, and not the next Alfie Mawson.

I am not sure there are signs that Preston is in the same class as the Fridge. On his 3rd League One/Two club and about 60 pro appearances. By the time he was 23, CC had captained us to two promotions and playing at what is now Championship level. Mansfield's grievances from 1985 were softened by the big sell on cut of the £2m tribunal fee when he went to Spurs. I guess Preston could be a late developer like Flint or even Adie Viveash who had the best years of his career between the two spells with us at 2nd and 3rd tier level. Sent from my HTC U11

I hope you're not suggesting this as a solution to our LB shortage.

Just in case anyone was wondering. Played a grand total of 37 minutes last season for Helmond Sport, who finished next to bottom in the Eerste Divisie.
