Personally I like the fact we live in a multi-cultural society, I'm not anti-foreigner in the slightest.  Although I do think the Tories may gain a hell of a lot of votes with this policy.

I am with Jan.  I think the fact we are so multi-cultural is what helps to make this country!  I do believe there are some very serious issues with regards it though such as over-the-top controls on what we can do in our own country yet we have to show respect for other peoples faiths and beliefs (which is quite right of course).

I do agree that there needs to be limits and a better asylum/imigration policy does need to be seriously looked at!  I too agree JA  that Conservative could get many votes because of this.  A lot has happened since the last election on this front to make this an important  election issue!

This may come as a shock to many of you, but I will be voting Lib Dem. Simply because I agree with pretty much all of their policies more so than any others. If the Tories get power I might have to move to Spain, where they actually have a socialist government.

Yeovil I thought the Lib Dems do well in Swindon, so I don't think it's a wasted vote.

I don't mind the Lib Dems, in fact i voted them when i could first vote!  Main reason i  tend to support labour is because i agree with Social Democratic values and the general party philosphy.  I must admit to not being overly enamoured with them currently but i am still drawn because of the core values!

For me some of the lib dem policies don't stack-up and a couple i do not really agree with!

Lib Dems are a bunch of wish-washies still trying to find a niche, the Tories are a joke and Labour won't win around here.

First of all im not BNP - IM conservative! Thats where my vote is, kick the foreigners out and look after property and business owners!

The irony here if you like, is that the Tories have always been the party pro immigration....precisely because they are the party of property and business owners.....in order for businesses to run successfully you needed a supply of cheap and disorganised labour to tap into....Labour on the other hand representing unionised workers, was always more restrictive in its outlook, but with a humane aspect..

Howard knows full well especially as an immigrant himself that his policy claims are unworkable, and from the prospect of the macro ecomomy downright undesirable.....but he's always been economic with the actualite.

But how close to the party philosophy are Labour anymore? They're becoming closer and closer to the Tories. I've got nothing against Labour and I'd consider voting for them if Blair was standing down, but I don't like the direction the country is heading in. The Lib Dems best represent what I want. Out of interest, which Lib Dem policies don't you agree with?

i'd definitely not vote connie.

but other than that, the parties are so similar that i'll be spoiling the ballot. i would urge anyone that's not considering voting to do the same; if you don't vote (spoiling is still voting) then nobody knows you're pissed off.

That is exactly the reason i am not as happy as i could be with them, but noone, short of extremists, come close to the core values so it' is a bit frustrating!

The main policy i don't agree with is the 50% tax for a couple of reasons.  Firstly it does not help innovation as you put in so much hard work and see half your money gone (unless you have a good accountant  Wink )
I agree that  the richer people should help out more than the average person but 50% is too extreme!

With regards Iraq.  I think it is wrong to start a phased withdrawal of troops wit  a year-end deadline!  I do not beleive this will help the region currently and i feel they are saying this because they just do not agree with the war and are not taking the current situation into account!

Also, I do not want us to join the Euro and they are very pro it (i know labour are also)!

Totally agree with that!  We are lucky to have the democracy we do and it does annoy me when people moan constantly but then don't vote!!  At least, as you say, spoling your ballot makes a point!

Im afraid the pensioners hold the cards in this election and many will vote Conservative because they got away with paying low taxes through out the Thatcher years.

Thier lack of investment in the country has led to the need for younger people to pay more now to cover the masive neglect of the Health Service (still the best in the world for all its faults) Education and Social Services.Blame them for the need to have tuition fees and higher taxes its that simple but no politician will ever have the guts to say it as grey power is on the rise.
