Title: Cheltenham Festival Betting Competion
Post by: yeo on Monday, March 9, 2009, 00:48:21
My pretend Bookies is open, lets try and break the forum again!

You get 500 Oevils to spend each day of the Festival.

Only Wins and Each Ways Singles and Starting Prices only (unless you think the price is going to come in loads then I suppose you can request an early price but Id rather you didnt cos i cant gurantee i'll be on to sort it)

Each day will be seperate, you can't bet more than 500 Oevils a day.

I'll make a thread for each day,put your choices in before the 1st race of that day starts.

No prizes its just for fun.

When you say wins do you just mean single wins or can we do like doubles and trebles providing they are run on the same day.

I'll offer a prize. The winner can choose the title under their name, or change the title for anybody else on the forum. With guaranteed no changes for 6months.

Always wanted DV to have "Dippy Twat"? or Si Pie to have "Dippy Twat"? or Yeovil Red to have "Dippy Twat"? or flammableBen to have "Dippy Twat"? or oh fuck it you get where I'm going with this.

I might offer an avatar too, but I've got a bit to do at the moment so I'll have to see how it goes.

Nah it'll be to complicated to work it all out,no doubles, trebles, yankees, place pots.

just win or each/way singles

Title: Re: Cheltenham Festival Betting Competion
Post by: yeo on Monday, March 9, 2009, 15:02:44
Tuesdays before 1st race Tuesday
Wednesday before 1st race Wed
etc

I suppose you can do them on a race by race basis if you really want to its just be easier for me to check over the results if each person does a whole days picks in 1 post.

and John,no I cant do it yourself x x

Nope unfortunately :(

2 years ago Cheltenham race week was one of the best weeks ever.  Booked the whole week of work and partied every night in the Queens hotel and spent £3 in 4 days :D WOOP!

(Didn't actually make it to the races though)

Nope, go to a website and register. Pick what you want to bet on and then it's done. Obviously how and what you bet on can be more complicated, but only as much as you want to make it.

If you want to bet on horses then backing horse to win or each way is dead easy.

Haven't missed a Festival since 91.  Even though they've arsed up this year, missing St Pats and my birthday, tut, it's still the best week of the year.

I think it means it's winning but the jokey isn't using the whip i.e. coasting the horse to victory. I could be utterly wrong though, as I thought the term ws ridden out or something similar.

Er,  Mr Yeovil.

I wouldn't want to be organising this, and I'm doing crap, and I know it's for fun,  but I can't see how 125 Oevils e/w on Wichita Lineman translates to 2062.50 winnings for Arriba  (shouldn't it be half that ?)

Tell me to stop interfering if you like....

go in.select the horses you want to bet on then write them on the slip.if you go e/w it doubles your stake.internet betting is easy and it is a step by step thing which gives you all betting options ie accumilators.yankees etc.plus some give you free bets when you register.i use sky bet

Yeah sure, all you have to do is fill out a slip for example

£2 e/w        United               cheltenham 4.40

stake box should be here >>>>>>>>>>> £4.00
________________________________________________
e/w is example as above or you can just do win if you prefer,ew will give you Quarter the odds place money providing it's an handicap race.16 or more runners will give you the first four places, non handicaps will only give you the first 3 at a fifth the odds no matter how many runners.

if united won at 4/1 you get a £2 win and a £2 place,if united just gets placed you only get the £2 place  money at the odds of 4/1

thats if your going into the bookies other than that set up a telephone account or do it online,I mainly use my telephone account.

I think it means it's winning but the jokey isn't using the whip i.e. coasting the horse to victory. I could be utterly wrong though, as I thought the term ws ridden out or something similar.

Its when the jockey is low down on the saddle of the horse to try and get maximum effort from the horse.  The jockey will also use the whip to hit the horse to try and gain a positive response from it.

In general if your horse is one of the first to be ridden along, then that horse is unlikely to win unless it keeps on well for presurre.  However there are loads of horses which look to be travelling really well, but when the jockey applied pressure to the horse, the horse finds little under pressure.

Can I confirm that three places pays 1/3 the odds and 4 places pays 1/4  (or are you just putting the numbers into the calculator) ?

We had a great day today, well I thought it was going to be a cracker ....
First two results pretty good fancied runners but pretty clear on the book, unfortunately they were the lowest betting races of the day, Witchy and McCoy, just about broke even.
Laid two monster bets in The Champion on the Indian runner - £12,500 to £500 and 6,600 to 300, Binocular would have been a winner, I think most of those who had a decent punt had anti-post vouchers.
Last two results absolute disasters.

Normal bookie downer, we just about came out in front ;) ... looking forward to battle again tomorrow. Its now time for a good steak and a few drinks, have a good evening.

We took a bit of a hammering today, only good thing punters not betting that high and crowds definitely down.
Nice to see more Irish there today though.
We had four losing races today, oh well, tomorrows another day.

If you put E/W, is that a top four finish for the 3.20 at Cheltenham today?

No there's only 14 in the race there needs to be 16 or more and it has to be an handicap race, although some bookmakers do go the four places now and again on special races but in normal terms no.

What a great day, I've been to so many Gold Cups, but today what a champion.
I cheered him home, even though he has cost us a fortune (bookie grumble)
We had a pretty good day today overall so grumble not really, three winning days out of four is not bad.

What a wonderful meeting - it beats any other sporting occasion as far as I'm concerned, roll on next year.

Thanks Yeovil for your grand work and to all who've played.

Just had two magnificent days on the course and the reception for Kauto and our Ruby was truly special.  As was everything else: the Festival is a celebration of life, in all its good, bad, ugly and particularly random forms.

Roll on 2010!

As per usual - the massive gayer

He is like a professional better anyway and should be disqualified!  - I should win the award for most effort - I even spoke to a smelly man in bad 80's clothes to get a tip that turned out not even to be a very clever tip but the horsey still won anyway!!

as long as I was above the relegation zone I will die a happy girl

Binocular had every right to win, just that day was not his day, if they turned out next week at Cheltenham my money would be on the Bins not the Indian.
The winner on form had no right at all, that is why he was trading at 25/1 in the morning, but that's racing and how bookies pay their mortgages.

Pre Cheltenham.....

This thread has got me thinking... Jesus, Cheltenham's easy this year. You don't need Birdy, you just need half a brain.

Binocular won't get beat. Nor will Kasbah Bliss. Dunno where Henderson's sending Mad Max, I know it's not the Supreme Novices anymore but wherever he goes he'll be a great price and will hack up. Lump on Voy Pour Ustedes and Master Minded (who will both be stupidly short) because they just as well go round on their own they're so good.

Denman is absolutely flying (Harry F lives in Bradford on Avon and I play golf with him at the 'well) and you can get 8's for the GC. Get on e/way.

Cant lose this year unless you're a spacker

Post Cheltenham...

Binocular was never gonna win though... nor Kasbah Bliss.... VPU had no reason not to hack up

I believe the phrase is   "Make your mind up"
