Nice, what do you pay a month for that connection?

Mine 2796, not bad seeing as it was always 1mb before as I live in the sticks on the limit of receiving broadband. I'm also with bt

I pay £9.99 a month for the first 6 months and then £17.99 a month after that.

My '2MB' connection is fucking shocking. Seems all of those connections i keep picking up are doing there bit to maintain a 50:1 contention ratio.

Download is 459kbps and upload is 222kbps. :x

Fucking cunth, i may just have to cancel mine and use the connection of one of the useless cunts around me.

talking about BT home hubs, has anyone had any luck getting rid of the cack software that comes with it from BT, like all the random tool bars, that gash connection manager and found some way of actually specifiying which MAC addresses you want to let log in rather than having to hand the CD out to anyone that wants to ?

I want the wireless connection zero thing back from windows XP, I thought that worked quite nicely - I'm having a go this week probably, but any tips would be welcome..

Just use a different browser to view the net.

I use Mozilla Firefox.

Gets rid of all the toolbars.

Being on a huge corporate network kind of helps  :soapy tit wank:

I'll run the test again later when I get home. I expect my download will be about 6.8mb and upload around 2.4mb.

Sounds like the wireless zero connection has been disabled. Press the windows button and r at the same time and type services.msc into the box. Then right click on wireless zero config and go to properties. Then you can change the start up type to automatic and use windows to configure the wireless connection.

b. It's peak time

c. Tiscali have shocking contention ratios that completely fuck your speed

check out www.adslguide.org.uk

Will tell you which providers etc you can get in your area and speeds etc.

You should look at ADSL Max/2 whatever they call it. Can get upto 24MB on some exchanges.

You don't have to.

Just phone Tiscali and get a MAC code and use this to set up with a new provider.

Your Tiscali connection with remain active until the new broadband provided is switched onto your line at the exchange.

Maximum downtime = 30 minutes.

It sucks, but then it doesn't directly affect me. It's BT, they gave me 2MB if i upgraded from my 512 with unlimited bandwidth or some bollocks.

I do little downloading and the biggest things i upload are scripts using ftp, which tends to be slow regardless.

Bandwidth etc matters not to me. I'd happily have a 256k if they sold it and it was cheaper.

Just checked again several times and it's currently up to just under 1500kbps download, but it will always change because of that areshole contention ratio.

just done it again and I got:

Download Speed: 9789 kbps (1223.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 488 kbps (61 KB/sec transfer rate)

There's a few others nearby on ntl but I don't know what speed they're on, I don't need 10mbit but I'm used to it.

Some maths nerd at college said I was a liar for saying I've got 10mbit, strange world where people lie about the internet connections :(

HSDPA or 3.5G is the future.

Wireless routers now available as well as PCMCI cards for laptops.  Once the UK networks start getting their act together on coverage and prices it’ll be a viable alternative to ADSL without having to piss around sending high-speed ADSL services through an antique infrastructure.

I've got 3.6 Mbps at the moment which is eventually going to support 14.4 Mbps all through a SIM card.

Only groan i have with BT Spuddy is their awful customer service.

The Indian call centre read off prompt cards and can only answer what the card in front of them says.

Indian = How many lights are on, on your home hub?

Me= None

Indian = There are no lights on, on the hub?

Me = No

Indian = Ok, i'll have to put you on hold

Indian thinks he has put me on hold but i can clearly hear him talking to someone else for 10 mins.

Neither of them have a clue what to do next.
