Author Topic: Are we a club that is slowly developing a hooligan problem?  (Read 4488 times)

As a slightly older member of this forum I can remember the bad old days of football violence back in the 1980s. It was not a pleasent experience. Often on a saterday evening at least one of your mates would either be in casualty or a police cell. Reguarly you would see opposition fans (and I am shamed to say even our own) armed with nails, screwdrivers, knuckle dusters, knives and even air pistols. Fortunautely it seems that over the last ten years those days have been behind us.

However there are some worrying signs that there is a new generation of 16-25 year olds at our club that are beggining to show the first signs of hooligan behaviour. Such behaviour includes swearing at stewards, baiting opposition fans, consuming large amounts of alcohol and considering it an honour to be ejected from the ground. This can and does easily escalate into full blown football violence. The nucleus of this group seems to be based at this forum and I see signs that slowly this type of activity is becoming more organized, institutionalised and preplanned. It will not be long before someone is seriously hurt or the club is fined or docked points.

I urge all Swindon fans especially younger members that go to away games to think a bit about their behaviour and remember that they are representing STFC.

You could be right. I have always been suspicious of that Yeovil Red character. He has been involved for a long time and has a number of contacts with some shady individuals.

I sincerely hope that Mr Todgers is having a laugh.
You cannot call swearing at a steward hooliganism. I think I have probably done it before!
You cannot call taunting opposition fans hooliganism. If so, then only Manchester United would be allowed their full points this season.
You canot call Sonicyouth a hooligan. He just can't handle his drink.

Just because some people got drunk and had a laugh at Gillingham it does not mean the forum is populated by thugs and ne'er-do-wells.
