Title: Re: Puddings Post by: Chubbs on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 13:05:15 I知 having a bash at a bread and butter pudding this afternoon. Any tips for that little bit extra. serious answer now. 1. user brioche rather than sliced bread 2. add cinnamon to the sultanas or mixed spice 3. add a bit of lemon zest into the mix 4. sprinkle brown sugar over the top rather than granulated/caster 5. my nan used to soak fruit in rum overnight Title: Re: Puddings Post by: The Artist Formerly Known as Audrey on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 13:13:46 I知 using brioche. I like the idea of soaking in rum, though.

I made a right hash of jam roll poly Jam roly poly, is more difficult than what it seems.... due to it sort of unrolling if not careful to make sure it's properly sealed. Interesting, I'd always suspected the BFG, no not Big Friendly Giant, never came from the Black Forest. So, what is the difference between sweet trolley and sweet cabinet? Title: Re: Puddings Post by: RobertT on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 21:40:09 My mum taught my daughter how to make Spotted Dick when we met up at Christmas, so we'll be having a trial run version this weekend. My USA colleagues can't help but snigger when we discuss eating a bit of dick. With Golden Syrip, none of this custard shit, I'm with Batch on that.
Title: Re: Puddings Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 22:11:35 Exactly! I thought maybe the cabinet was a trolley with doors, how does it get to your table then? Carried? Title: Re: Puddings Post by: RobertT on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 22:14:00 It's the modern age Reg, service is dead, replaced by getting up and taking a walk to self serve. I think I saw a few before I left, but there are a couple of places over here that have on table ipad type things where you order and pay for your food by tapping the screen. On the plus side it is rare and service is most definitely something they do well over here. Puddings not so much though!
Title: Re: Puddings Post by: RobertT on Thursday, January 11, 2018, 22:14:43 Oh and people are mixing puddings with desserts.

[/quote]Absolutely 100%;agree, lunch always was dinnertime and dinner was always teatime, maybe its just a outhern thing, or maybe it's a just a council house thing - either way, hate school dinners as I did, have never found anyone to match their jam roly polys or spotted dick .. DELICIOUS !. Title: Re: Puddings Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, January 12, 2018, 01:25:13 I thought maybe the cabinet was a trolley with doors, how does it get to your table then? Carried? what Rob said. it's a walk to it job... it's stationary. you go and point! and yeah we are mixing puddings with dessert. I was brought up on a council estate. everything was pudding. and lunch was dinner. and dinner was tea. Differentiating between sweet/pudding and dessert is always a vexed subject.... but I'm reassured that not everything is lost to US style cabinets. Here's a seemingly reasonably traditional British company that still makes trolleys https://www.euroservice-uk.com/ OK they're called Euroservice, but you'd like to think they'll have a future post Brexit. Aspirant bourgeoisie, only consider themselves to have arrived when they have a domestic trolley, so should play well in India, China etc Title: Re: Puddings Post by: pauld on Friday, January 12, 2018, 11:08:37 Aspirant bourgeoisie, only consider themselves to have arrived when they have a domestic trolley Who's going to break it to Reg that it's not 1972 any more? Do it gently, the shock could be quite unsettlingTitle: Re: Puddings Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, January 13, 2018, 06:39:57 It kind of fits in here, but which should go with Christmas Pud It's a family tradition of ours to have custard (warm), cream and ice cream.
