Blackpool!BLACKPOOL today missed out in their bid to sign Millwall midfielder Sammy Igoe.
He has been due to sign for the Seasiders on a three-month loan, but the deal for the former Swindon player fell through at the 11th hour when the player unexpectedly back-tracked on his decision.
It was a blow to manager Colin Hendry who had pinned his hopes on having Igoe in the side for tomorrow's clash at Swansea.
Hendry said: "We had agreed all the finances with Millwall.
"We were under the impression he was desperate to play first team football and we were prepared to give him that opportunity, but Colin Lee (the Millwall manager) rang me this morning to say that Sammy did not want to come to Blackpool.
"Obviously, that is football – however, we wil continue to try and bring better players to the club."
The former Swindon man is well known to the fans at Bloomfield Road – he was involved in an infamous tussle when his dive led to Richie Wellens being sent off two seasons ago and he spent the remainder of the match being booed by the home fans!
Igoe is currently struggling to make an impression at Millwall, and Pool held talks with the player at Bloomfield Road yesterday.
According to chairman Karl Oyston, a three-month deal had been agreed with Igoe and his club, although there were minor details to be resolved.
Igoe had been due to link up with the Seasiders squad at their hotel in South Wales, where they are staying tonight ahead of tomorrow's clash at league leaders Swansea.
Igoe, 30, played his last game for Millwall in the 2-1 Carling Cup win at Yeovil, but he is clearly surplus to requirements at the New Den and could have been a permanent target for Hendry when the transfer window reopens in January.
