hmmm, when I lived in Scotland, I was always led to believe that Owen was 'Welsh'.

on another note, whats with the refs on the goal lines...I have watched most of the games and havent seen them make a single call yet...unless they are communicating to the ref via his ear piece...

however, there have been two blatant fook ups by them...
the 'goal' last night and some other game I was watching, a missed corner where the line ref was stood no more than  a metre away, the ball crossed the line by probably its diameter before being cleared but no corner was given...

oh, and for what its worth, my thoughts on last night:
I thought we were mostly dire but just scrpaed through, the inability to keep possesion was frightening...a massive improvement need for the Italy game...

Didn't one of the goalline guys signal a corner when someone passed back to Hart and it went over the line ?

Discussing this with a Welsh mate some years ago, we concluded that Owen was a straight swap for Giggs, who (as Ryan Wilson) played for England at schoolboy level or some such.

How could it be a straight swap when Owen was born in England and his father is English as well? is his mother Welsh?

No idea. It was a pub conversation. The bigger point was that it can work both ways (losing Giggs to Wales)

How do you decide nationality though?  Place you were born? Place you grew up? Nationality of parents?

I also heard that anyone born in the UK and of British nationality can play for any of the home nations, despite having no connection to those states.  It's more of a gentlemen's agreement that means they (kind of) go with their 'proper' countries.

He is, born in Cardiff and Owen born in England, so the whole argument is flawed somewhat.

Balotelli is a sending off waiting to happen.

The Italians were not tht impressive against the Irish yesterday, whilst we regularly raise our game aginst the bigger sides.

we do?
