No matter how many times I explain to my other half that reheating rice isn't bad but not cooling it down quickly is, she just doesn't understand it. Was about to eat cold curry and rice 🙄

Reheating anything once is usually alright. Yes even rice. It's when it starts to go through that pattern of "cool - heat - cool - heat..." that it becomes riskier each cycle it goes through.

There is a myth about cooked rice being bad to eat, it is not. Once it has cooled down it needs refrigerating. Use within a couple of days or freeze. You can then eat it cold or reheat in a microwave.

Reheating multiple times is dodgy, but especially so with things prone to cause food poisining like rice and chicken. The surface area of a grain of rice is perfect for bacteria, and when you reheat rice is when the bacteria multiply fast. If you heat hot enough, the bacteria cannot survive. If you heat it to just warm, they've flourished, survived, and you're likely to be sick. Or am I wrong?

Rice is responsible for a huge amount of food poisining issues, if you reheat it a few times then portion it out and only heat what you will use.
Curry does definately improve over a couple of days though!

I used to have a mate who would cook a massive curry on Saturday night to feed him and his housemates then fry up the leftovers on Sunday morning as a hangover cure. Sounds rank, but it was actually really good! EDIT: to be clear, when I say "I used to have a mate who ..." that's because we lost contact not because he died from food poisoning!

I see, spores of Bacillus cereus. Though I'm still a bit confused why if reheating is not a problem they still say in the tips there, "When you reheat any rice, always check the dish is steaming hot all the way through."

The local stray cat that has adopted us left a nice present of a regurgitated mouse on the mat this morning.
