Imho this was the sort of signng that we needed back in January to bolster the squad and bring a bit of "experience" to the team. I cannot see him being thrown straight in but as said elsewhere our defensive players are on knife edges regarding bookings and I think also it is a good move when you consider the recent subs bench has been rather decimated.

Agreed but better late than never - if he signs then it is a great bit of business considering his experience and that he was an ever present for the side that pissed the league last season.

Ok, so I'll ask it... If an experienced 33 year old defender, who hasn't played since November is what we need... why doesn't Darren Ward fit that bill?

Because Darren Ward is older than 33 and maybe a slightly different player. Maybe?

Or...Ward's legs have 'gone' and Ricketts' haven't?

You've not really thought that question through at all well, have you?

I have...just playing devil's advocate. Does anyone know that Sam Ricketts is "the answer"?

Does anyone know that any signing ever is the answer? To what question?
I'd be very suprised if Ricketts waltzed straight into the starting 11. I'd wager he's been brought in as defensive cover and, in the situation we've found ourselves in a loanee with a wealth of experience of promotion is more preferable to help us over the line than a wet behind the ears 19 year old

Or another way of putting it......You're sat in a pub on your own...the most gorgeous girl walks across to you, offers you sex, every fantasy you could ever wish for, buys you drinks and agrees to spend the next 6 weeks with you. But then you recall that 5 years ago something similar happened. Except last time you discovered she wore incontinence pants. What are you going to do this time ?

I'm not a big Ward fan, but just wondering that if we're changing the course here by bringing in experience, it's interesting that we're looking at someone who hasn't played since November, whilst Ward is under contract, presumably we're paying for some of his salary, he's playing regularly at Crawley and apparently the consummate professional. So, it's a genuine question as to why we're looking at Ricketts. He may be great... I just don't know. From what I've read on here, nobody has said positive things about Ricketts yet.

Exactly. But you seem to be looking at it from a negative angle. Shall we just keep an open mind. You can't deny that Power/Cooper have some intent.
