Title: Swindon Van Hire
Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, January 4, 2016, 08:44:49
Hi

On Saturday the 23rd of January I'm looking to hire a van For pretty much the whole day (7-8 am till 6-7 pm). I don't really want to keep it overnight, but can do if absolutely necessary.

Any recommendations?

M&S Van hire Cheney Manor Ind Estate.

I'll be using them in a few weeks.

What type?  Luton, swb? Etc.
I've always used Wootton Bassett van hire,  very reasonable. Less than £60 for a Luton with a tail lift.

Big enough to put a double bed frame in the back. I was planning on getting a transity type

Cheney manor would be ideal as I live right by it. Is there a problem with dropping off late on a Saturday? I've been told places are only open till about midday?

I had to do this a few weeks back.
Tried looking into B&Q as it looked cheap but not so much once you delve in and you have to think about the traffic around there at the moment.
M&S Vans do daily but at weekends you have to take it for both days.

In the end I just went with who I always go with

They just always seem to have stock and are easy to deal with.

I've always used TSP Karhire at the transfer bridges, they have a late night drop off chute

Nah. I've dropped vans off at 8pm before. Just need to check with them.

Hertz at Cheney Manor closes at 1pm on Saturday. I wouldn't recommend them as I got a stupidly big van when I only wanted an SWB and it was a bugger to drive as I've never driven anything bigger than a ford transit custom before.

Swindon Car and Van is 24 hour drop off so that's quite handy to avoid charges, helpful staff and the vehicles are decent.

You will need to register online for the new DVLA information sharing for hiring vehicles. It's easy to do but the sharing code is only valid for 21 days so don't do it just yet: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence.

Only other things to point out are that you usually have to have held a full license for a couple of years, hopefully  you know all of this.

Dangerfield.

There vans are absolute shit, but it's a laugh when the lights and windscreen wipers stop working at night, on the M40, before the whole fucking thing packs up.

I came back from a stag do years ago and the engine expired just south of Birmingham  :) Breakdown company had to use two vehicles to get us all back.

There's the added bonus of a petrol station with a high roof about 5 yards away  :D

I normally use Swindon Car and Van hire. You can drop off whenever and they're always decent vans too.
