Why West Ham have started playing at the Boleyn ground in the last year or two when for 41 years of my life they played at Upton Park, and I stayed at the Upton Park Hotel a few years ago... Reminds me of the awful Bafana, bafana nonsense during the South African world cup.

Isn't West Ham's ground name similar to AC Milan's in the sense that people refer to the area rather than the name of the stadium?

Celtic Park vs. Parkhead being another. I've known West Ham's referred to by both in my time watching football although more often as Upton Park. Celtic's tends to be the other way around. An oddity for me is how we convert foreign places and then grounds (bringing it to football) into an English version, like Munchen and Munich, and then with Barcelona we go even odder by still using the Spanish words but switch them around so instead of Camp Nou we call it the Nou Camp.

They changed the name to Upton Park when the local lawn bowls club moved. This is in contrast to Derby who retained the name 'The Baseball Ground' even when baseball was no longer played at their previous stadium.

It was always the Boleyn Ground in my 1980's Panini albums, always confused me then!

None of these things are as remotely annoying as nw grounds which just get a sponsor's name and then after a few years change them....atm I've no idea where Bolton, Derby or Huddersfield play for starters, and don't get me started on the likes of Stevenage and Crawley.

Bolton play at the Macron, which isn't actually in Bolton!

No think it's in Horwich. There are a few examples of grounds not in the place of the team name......like Bormuff, and I don't know what their ground is now called.

The worst thing about West Ham leaving Upton Park is not being able to chortle at its spelling in reverse any more.

smaller than Burslem Horwich, of course, was a railway works town, like Swindon. I like Horwich products, always seem a bit eccentric and utilitarian, unike the sexy output from Swindon.

Hence Horwich RMI - Railway Mechanics Institute - who confusingly play in the same colours as BWFC. Although that would explain how everyone seems to have been watching the wrong team in recent years. No-one beats Brighton's resident local population of 287 as smallest in the league now.
