Nah I've heard Cureton's name at least 10 times but Thorpe's had most of the chances. Evans has probably been our best player so far.

Not at all, we have made a number of superb comebacks under King and turned round losing runs. We've also made the playoffs with very limited resources. Hardly the signs of a poor motivator.

It is indeed and apparently we were just lumping hgh balls up to Thorpe and Cureton, i fucking hate it when we feel the need to play the long ball game instead of knocking it about and getting the crosse's in from out wide.

What worries me is  Ricky Shakes, Gareth Whalley, Michael Pook and Steve Jenkins in the midfield . Whalley not seen play but sounds quality, Shakes could be good given time, same with Pook and Jenks is a defender.

I think King already know this, but we need a strong, ball winning, experienced midfielder. Migs is another good option of a different type if fit.

Crosses into the box will not be the way to work this season. With shorter strikers it will be essential to get the ball on the deck and maybe use Migs and Whalley as playmakers to play the strikers into good positions.

That wasn't how it worked today and our few chances seemed to come when the ball was played to feet.

What should worry you more is that Barnsley with 10 men ran rings round our defence.

They should never have got the ball back but somehow Ifil was given the role of ball distributor from the back and he continued to give it away 9 times out of ten, as he had done all game

King should tell him never to pass the ball more than 10 metres left or right. He should also tell the others never to give Ifil the ball. We'll have a chance then.

It's going to be a lonnnnnggggg season.

we were pretty poor/average. the main thing that worried me was the constant long balls to the midgets up front. We need to get the ball on the floor and play it about abit.

Still its the first game and we never win first game so roll on tuesday. I can see some positive things but it will take a bit of time for them all to get used to each other.

On the plus side about half the townend were in the mega bowl before the match! We even found Dave M when we got in the ground!  8)

King said in the radio interview after the match that he tells them on the training ground not to do long balls and they practise passing etc, yet when the match comes they do the long ball sometimes, and as he said there's not a lot in the game he can do about that.

First game, we weren't brilliant, but Barnsley weren't that much better. If only Cureton's penalty went in. And Ifil has got to start cutting out the mistakes soon, there's just too many.

ITS ONE GAME. FFS. GIVE THEM TIME.
It's not all doom and gloom, from everything I've heard we weren't bad at all. Not good either but hey at least we aint bad.

Absolutely true. Some of our fans are very frustrating. Anyone remember that guy who threw his season ticket on the pitch when we were 3-0 down against sheffield wednesday two seasons ago must have felt a bit stupid, when we just missed out on promotion. :ha:

well, so i don't know anything about how well we played, but shame to lose the opening game obviously!

penalty miss just probably added to the frustration!

Impressive, Mr Jock.

WE ARE GOING UP*

*note, I don't think we will go up, just trying to liven up the mood.

Write this game off. We were shocking. No positives to take take from it at all IMO. We were shite. Well beaten by a mediocre, ten man Barnsley. A good side would have got 6.

Our season starts Tuesday (I hope)

If anyone disagrees they must have been watching a different game. We are crying out for that midfield ball winning hard man I tell you.

33 mins against 10 men with 3 up frront and we couldn't score-that's worrying.

Ifil was only ball distributor because he was the only one getting it off the barnsley players to start with

From the reports from various folk it sounded like we were utter tripe. I just wondered if anyone stood out.

I tend to use the smily faces a lot, maybe I should cut down!

couldn't get it to work for much of last season due to contract rights etc!

Got to admit I've only just got broadband so can now listen to it easily. Never heard of contract rights causing a problem before, I thought they covered all Swindon games. What contract rights were causing the problems?

No idea mate. Just when I tried to listen to commentary some recorded message woman told me they couldn't broadcast the game or summat. Maybe I was doing something wrong!

Will try again tomorrow night.

Yeh, better luck tomorrow. I'd thought about getting STFC World, but as it's free on the Beeb and works ok (at present) I'm sticking with that.

It's to do with STFC World having the broadcasting rights for league games.

Sometimes they forget to flick the switch to cut the commentary until a little way into the game.

RS can broadcast any LDV/FA etc.. games that we haven't been knocked out of though

Ok, now I'm confused! I thought BBC local radio could broadcast all games, BBC 3 Counties does all Luton games, is it only over the internet that we might get problems listening to the match by Listen Live to BBC Swindon then as I thought Radio covered it.

Or have I got this all wrong?

Just seen your post Whits, bugger.

Sorry Bedford, I didn't explain that too well -  yes it only affects listening over the net.

If you can pick up RS on normal radio you're fine (which we can't)

Thanks Sussex, that's a bugger. Was hoping to catch some of the games on the internet, far to far from Swindon to get it on normal radio.
