Think they're without Vincelot today, who scores a fair few goals for them.

Going for a Swindon win though, and leaving at quarter past 10. YOU REDSSSS.

I fucking hate these games against what I still think of as non league sides, aside from Oxford, we've got a fairly wretched record especially away.

 Cheltenham  :(

Yeovil is it 1 win in 4

 Barnet  :( :(

 Macclesfield  :(

 Rushden and Diamonds....Boxing Day 03/04 :( :(

The only ray of sunshine was winning 3-1 at Boston....but we still managed to screw up a couple of cup games there around the time of their brief flirtation with league football.

So prepare for the worst :badmood:

Accrington was 1-1 away.

We lost last time out to Poxford and they are traditionally non league as well.

Accrington was 1-1 away.

We lost last time out to Poxford and they are traditionally non league as well.

I still think of Accrington as a league side....the original Accrington being a founder member of the Football League. Stanley had their league place wrongly stolen by the Headington franchise.

JMP dropped for ball
Ferry->Prutton
Rose-> Shhehan

Surprised JPM is dropped but this new system is crippling him.

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 13:26:03
Dossevi in the hole then?

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: jonny72 on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 13:28:52
If he's keeping the diamond then dropping JPM is just common sense as he can't play in the hole, should have happened before now. I'd put Dossevi myself as he looks ideally suited to it, though Ball would be the other option.

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: Batch on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 13:32:48
I'd imagine it'll either be 4,3,3 with Vince the most central striker or as you say Dossevi in the JPM role and ball up front. Can't imagine it'll be a straight swap anyway.

Forgot to say "only" 6 on the bench today due to lack of fit players.

Subs: Phil Smith, Nathan Thompson, Will Evans, Alan O'Brien, Jon-Paul McGovern, Billy Bodin

Weakest bench for a long time.

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: sonicyouth on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 13:34:47
I like the sound of Dossevi in the hole, he strikes me as more likely to create chances than take them and as others have said JP is anonymous in that position. That is one hell of a weak bench.

I see Scott Doe is starting for Dagenham today, didn't realise he was still around!

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: Arriba on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 13:39:33
play jp out wide and go 4,4,2.

Obviously don't know if the goals were down to individual errors, but we are back to needing to score 3 or more goals in a game to get any points.

The lack of depth in the squad is now beginning to show.

After beating Huddersfield there was a feeling of optimism, but that seems to have gone now.

We need to get the season back on track asap.

We are not average we're much worst than that. Our players lack bottle and strength. Any team with the slightest physical presence beats us it's just embarrassing. Last season we lost to millwall due to them bullying us. How does wilson deal with this.... He makes us even smaller with the likes of caddis. I'm so fucked off we're just a soft touch, Dagenham wanted it more so won it. Becoming a common theme this season.

I understand you being pissed off but that remark is just dumb, are you saying he was a shit signing? Caddis is a quality player, ok a little small but there is no denying that the boy has huge potential.

glos_robin: I completely disagree - what about the Huddersfield match where we dominated the midfield and bullied them out of the contest?

arriba is correct; we had a 4-4-2 system that got us to the play-off final and have now abandoned this to accomodate the doyen of central midfielders that Danny Wilson now has available to him.

Danny Ward was an integral part of the play-off final - why has a left winger not been signed to replace him?

Our main problem is the lack of a settled side....due to injury suspension etc.

There's nothing wrong that a ten game unbeaten run wouldn't put right.

But we're still a bit off finding that settled unit, what with suspension and now international calls.

 Winning Tuesday becomes massive though...

Really pleased for Billy making his league debut, but it shows exactly how thin and inexperiecned this squad is. Still need an experienced CB and ST, and still haven't found a left winger!

Midtable obscurity lies ahead unless we strengthen, and after the amount we spent in the summer and last season's success, I don't think the board will stand for a nothing season. Off the field, the board have been amazing and we're no longer an average league one side, but it needs to show on the pitch over the next 6 weeks or Mr Wilson may be under a little pressure heading into the winter.

Off the field, the board have been amazing and we're no longer an average league one side, but it needs to show on the pitch over the next 6 weeks or Mr Wilson may be under a little pressure heading into the winter.

Whilst i agree with most of your comments why do we have to bring up Mr Wilson is under pressure we the fans are under pressure,
Any way who would we replace Danny with he is a good manager

"To be fair the diamond has beaten Huddersfield and Southampton, I'm not against it. However Prutton and more importantly Sheehan are key factors in it's success."

But was that in spite of, rather than because of, the system?

IMO, Wilson did not intend to start the season playing 4-3-1-2. David Ball appears to have come in as a like-for-like replacement for Danny Ward, despite him having no left foot. Prutton started the season in the centre of 4-4-2 as well!

Not sure I understand you, but let me clarify.

The last thing I want is for Wilson to be even close to losing his job, I rate him very highly. However, I do think that if we are in a similar position in 6 weeks time, it will be inevitable that Wilson will be under a little pressure, especially with the cups coming up too.

Not sure what you mean with the fans being under pressure?

In other news, listening to Dave Lucas on the radio, the bloke is top class. Speaks so well, and is refreshingly honest.

We didn't play a diamond today it was a flat 4 in midfield with Ball on the left wing and he didn't have a clue what to do. Maybe my other post was OTT but make no mistake watching today was embarrassing as we were beaten by desire. We couldn't even name 7 subs which is just stupid and youve gotta question the wisdom of letting timlin go or not signing people on loan

On another note, we only named 6 subs today, including evans, thompson and bodin, so 13 senior pros. I know we have a couple of injuries but nothing out of the ordinary, so that is truley shocking. We need quality additions asap, the first year pros really shouldnt get anywhere near the team really.

100% agree with that. The only good thing I've heard all day. Clearly hurts him as a pro, real pride and honesty. Exactly what as a fan you'd hope the players would feel but that you suspect they don't. The say-nothing top flight players with their mumbled contemptuous insincere platitudes should be made to sit down and listen to that interview before they pick up their next Bentley. Solid gold, Lucas

Spot on.

...and the end of the day football is a results business and Wilson has made a rod for his own back. This season and any future season under Wilson will be judged against last season. Us as fans want progress, the board want progression and Danny Wilson wants progression. Going from losing play off semi finalists, to say 12th in L1 the following season is not progression and not the targets the manager set himself. I dont think anyone would be happy with a 12th place finish this season. It would be failure. In any job, if you fail or are failing you are under pressure

Fucking hell, let's all slit are wrists now.

we know the quality is there. It's only game 10.

The quality isnt there.

As for the squad, can we not recall Timlin? Its an extra body over the age of 12. We could do with a few.

I didnt even bother listening to the game. Wilson seemed his usual philosophical self and David Lucas seemed utterly embarrassed.

I think Torquay in the piss poor paint pot we need to go back to 4-4-2. Smith (personal choice, but Lucas whatever) Amankwaah, Cuthbert, Morrison, Rose, Jon-Paul McGovern (WIDE RIGHT) Jonathan Douglas, Simon Ferry (IN THE MIDDLE) Alan O'Brien (WIDE LEFT) Ball and Pericard or Dossevi upfront.

Back to basics, we cant replicate last season we dont have the same players - but lets try to as much as we can. That means re-uniting Big Kev and JPM down the right, that means re-uniting Douglas and Ferry in the middle.

I'd give Ball a run up front as he is a fucking striker.

Alan O'Brien - fuck it, we have no one else. I'd call him into the office monday - tell him he's starting and getting a full 90 against Torquay and that its make or break time for him, last chance saloon. Impress or find a new club.

One quote that particularly struck me was along the lines of "The fans turned out in fantastic numbers, really backed us, they pay their hard-earned money to support us and all we can do in return is that ... doss. Jeez, embarrassing". Or something like that. But clearly very heart-felt

D'oh.

Us, Play Off final losers.

I completely forgot about Caddis. I'd still rather we went back to Big Kev/JPM though both look worse players without each other.

I wasnt sure who to drop out of Dossevi and Pericard. Ideally both - but not sure i'd want to start with Bodin upfront. Guess it would be Pericard then.

It's not roket science really chaps.
Sound keepers, the defence has done well overall, for me the best midfield in the division.
That leaves the forwards.
Dossevi and Pericard will not score the goals we need to go along with Austin's contribution.
The manager and board have had ample time to replace Paynter...they havn't.
We need two good srikers to keep Austin company....and an ATTACKING  midfielder to go along with Douglas and company.
Very disapointing result today and it is dawning on me that we could be in for a season of mid table boredom..lets hope we get a cup run.

Plus, we cant have the best midfield in the division without a left winger.

JPM, Douglas, Ferry and Prutton are all decent but would never work as a midfield four. It would have to be JPM, Dougas, Ferry or Prutton and a decent left winger.

Only at times have we defended well as a team. We've conceded 2 (or more) in 6 of our 12 matches. Scoring 3 to win is always a tall order.

Take your point Batch....take Plymouth away and i think we have defended ok this season.
My feeling is if we had taken the chances to increase our lead today we probably wouldnt have conceded two.
When your right and left back play attacking then you will always concede.
Truth is that Paynter and Austin are both missing....and so are the goals.

Not meaning to point the finger, as I can't say it's all his fault. But from memory the games where we have conceded 2 or more goals have all been with Rose at left back.

It does appear that our defence is either very good or very bad.

Just got back.

That was one of thw worst performances i have seen form us in a long time, scarlily Malpas-esque.

Cant comment on our goal as I (and think quite a few) missed it.

There goals were both avoidable. The first, we just stood off and stood off, inviting him to shoot and there second was a long throw which came to their guy with his back to goal and we let him turn and shhot.

Lucas - The only real possitive today, made some great saves and stopped them getting more. The only player who seemed seriously fucked off with the performance.

Kev - Poor at the back, misjudged quite a few and was never really a threat going forward.

Morrison & Cuthbert - Not too bad, soild enough, too many long ball for my liking, but they never really had any options, could have given them less time on the ball.

Rose - Always seems intent to hoof the ball long, showed no urgency to get the back in play when we chaisng the game, got caught at the back regually.

Caddis - Decent enough, looked a threat, good delivery and came closest to scoring.

Dougie/Ferry - Both poor. Gave them way too much time on the ball, didnt get forward enoughand never gave the top 2 an option.

Ball - Never really got in the game. Really isnt a winger, cant beat a player or deliver with his left foot.

Pericard - Just doesnt hold the ball up well enough for me, and definatley doesnt work enough for me, just seems to be lacking that bit of confidence and quality.

Dossevi - Didnt see the goal so cant comment, but i have never seen a player get caught offsiode so many times, doesnt seem able to read the game and is very relucant to run with ball, didnt gamble enough on Pericards flickons.

We were very poor today, no desire, didnt show for each other, no-one wanted the ball. We gave them too much time on the ball and they deserved to win, we created absolutley nothing bar a Caddis effort in the 2nd half which was ell saved by the keeper.

Our support was good inthe 1st half but in the second half it refelcted our performance, very flat.

Fair play to their keeper aswell, he took a lot of stick form us but he gave as good as he got and made an outstanding save from Caddis aswell.

We really need to strenghten our squad, pretty sure we only had 6 subs tody, because on that performance we are in for a dissapointing season.

Obviously today is a huge setback, but it's not the end of the world. I don't think 10 games define a season. Last season we were only 3 points better off than we are now at this stage of the season, and the season before that (Relegation dogfight) we were 3 points worse, so it's anyones game.
I couldn't make todays game, so can't comment on the performance, but we've played well, and in most cases controlled, a lot of our games this season.

Get Austin back from injury, as well as Sheehan, bring in a couple of loanees - Jobs a gooden  :)

In my state of mind, and I'm having a few :pint: I can't really be arsed to read the whole thread, what went wrong after being one up?

Initially, after going a goal up, very llittle actually went wrong. I thought we were pretty much in control in the first half but had no cutting edge in the final third. The goal and then a pretty good chance (I can't think who it was now) just before half time were all we created in terms of actual chances but I thought we looked pretty good overall. One goal though, as I always say, is never, ever enough and so it proved.

They then got an early goal second half. Cuthbert missed what looked like a pretty simple header to leave Scannell in acres of space. From there on in it pretty much fell apart although we still had chances to have salvaged a point. Roberts saved one certain goal from Caddis (I think) Dag & Red in fairness looked like they wanted it more.

I liked the look of Ball and it would be interesting to see what he can do behind the front two. A very skillful player with a beautiful touch. It was the first I'd seen of Rose and after all the slating he'd been getting I was pleasantly surprised. How the fuck anyone can write off Bodin after the short time he was on is beyond me. Again, he looks like he's got a very nice touch and I would like to see more of him. He may well need to go out on loan to get himself beefed up though. O'Brien looked good when he came on (when he eventually got into the game) I have stuck up for Pericard ever since we signed him but today, even I have to admit he was utterly useless. He looked like a player playing his last game for the club. He must have lost his footing 20 times and could not be fucked to change his boots. Oh yeah, JPM on the bench? He's a key player and needs to be starting.

A very disappointing day but not all bad. To me, we are certainly not a bad team, but a good team who have yet to get all the pieces in the right place. That obviously needs to happen sooner rather than later though.

We need some luck/inspiration in the loans market, and soon, to give us more strength in depth, some creativity wide left and some goal-scoring experience up top. A run with a settled team and no injuries or stupid suspensions would help too.

To pick up on a point made a few posts ago, I haven't seen anyone write Bodin off on here, but the fact he is an option at the moment is indicative of our problems.

We get Charlie fit, we go back to 4-4-2 matching up as close to last season as possible, we play players in position. JPM right, Ball upfront etc We drop under performers. If that means Billy Bodin plays so be it. We go back to basics and work our bollocks off again. We enter the loan market and try to bring in a centre back, left winger and striker. Preferably experienced player not youngsters. Bring back Timlin, I fail to see the point in having a senior pro out on loan when we can only name 6 subs and he was just starting to play well before he went.

Come January we dont sell Austin and we spend money to get better players in.

We need a run of games with a settled team playing the system that worked so well last season, too many changes both in personnel and formation at the moment. I don't think we're much weaker than last season with everyone fit, we just need someone consistent on the left. I wonder if Dossevi could be the answer as a Ward style replacement. We lack leadership and of course we miss Paynter's goals although neither are easily replaced we need to bring in two or three players on loan.

tl;dr: stick with 4-4-2, develop consistency, sign a centre-back, left-winger and striker.

i think we have a average team which isn't anywhere near last seasons team.
That's it in an nutshell.

I don't think the start we have made is that surprising, the annoying thing is that we have had time to replace these players we lost but have come up with fuck all. It's not like they left at the start of August, it was clear 2 of them were off after Wembley and Greer only went in early July didn't he?

Bring in a couple of players and we will be where we want to be. It's just a case of whether or not we find them.

Fuck me....we're Swindon Town not Wendies or Leeds. Last season we overachieved, this season we may not be able to...

Fitton set the target of Championship in five years, he's running out of time and if we move backwards in terms of where we finish at the end of the season, does not that equate to a failure?

Midtable with the odd season of challenging for promotion is about our level, I'm not expecting more than that - simply looking at it as Fitton might.

Come January we dont sell Austin and we spend money to get better players in.

pretty much agree and have hated the new formation since i first saw it.
dont think bodin is ready and timlin is a bench warmer at best for a progressive team(if we are that)

Plus, without wishing to sound all 'Leeds' shouldnt we want to progress?

I'm not saying we deserve it or have a right to it, but surely the minute we except we're a mid table 3rd division side there's not point even bothering?

I'm sorry - I just cant get myself excited for finishing 12th in Division 3 every year.

Its clear Reg gave up a long time ago and settled. I'd hope the club have more ambition...

That's so simplistic!

Off the field we've made massive progress. Our wage budget and transfer budget is towards the top end of this league (maybe 5th - 8th), our crowds are at a similar level. The board have been hell-bent on building this club on and off the pitch to put us in a position to challenge in this league, and we now have to deliver.

We're no longer a run-of-the-mill league one club, capable of a good season every 8 years or whatever. Look at the sponsors, look at the gates increasing in a time of real financial hardship, the ambitious but sensible ground plans, the general improvement of of the "CG experience". This board have changed all of that, and now we need to make sure we step up on the pitch.

Last year was not an over-acheivement.  AF and DW have both said many times that the expectation last year was playoffs and the 3rd round of the cup, and it was part of the building process. The expectation - inhouse at least - will be the same one would imagine, or possible even higher with the outlay in the summer.

The new formation, in my opinion only of course worked well against Southampton because they also played a diamond midfield. Their game plan was to play through Puncheon and Dougie didnt let that happen. It worked that game, not so much since.

I dont think Bodin is ready at all - but - I'd rather give him a go than have passengers in our team. I'd rather have our players mindset be 'I need to perform otherwise I'll get dropped' rather than 'fuck it, who could he replace me with?' thats the thing that annoys me about the keeper situation, Lucas knows he will play if fit. Doesnt keep him on his toes at all - for the most part he's solid though.

Again, Timlin - bench warmer, fair enough - its less about Timlin personally and more about the squad. Having a player out on loan then only naming 6 subs - 3 of which have never played a professional league game, how does that work?

We've just lost twice in a week?

We arent exactly going to be jumping for joy are we?

Panda Paws has got it spot on above.

Not expecting anyone to be jumping for joy but some people need to get things into perspective.  As Sonic says when we win we are the best thing since sliced bread when we lose we are doomed.

We Support an average League 1 side that over achieved last year.  We over achieved last year, maybe deserved play offs, but it was too early to be on the verge of automatic, which is what we were.  Because of that over achievement everyone is talking like it's our right to walk into the play offs and improve on last year, that is not always the case though, especially when you lose important players from the squad.

I sit and listen to Premiership fans phone in to radio shows moaning about this and that because they lost and think, you want to try supporting a football league team.  It's like they have forgotten what it's like to be rubbish, and I suppose you can forgive that with the majority of teams as they have been there for so long, but just a few years ago we were on the verge of folding as a club and had to watch the absolute shit that Malpas was serving up.  We have one good season and now we throw the toys out of the pram when we lose a couple of matches.

Right, lets say that the board don't spend money and don't bring players in to improve our squad to push us up the right end of the table this year, what are you going to do about it?  Let's say that the board don't deliver their promise of Championship football within 5 years, what are you going to do about it?  Wilson out?  Fitton out?  Get wee willy carson back in?

This is what I mean about over reaction.  I expect everyone to be pissed off about losing, I expect everyone to be happy about us winning, but the over reaction that last seasons success has created this year is IMO well over the top, and there are many on here that almost wollow in the pit of sarcastic failure and it gets tedious.  Everyone comes up with their obvious simplistic views about what is wrong, and that is great because that is what a forum is all about, but a collective pressing of a panic button is not required, because the alternative is going back to the shit old days of the previous regimes, because sooner or later it will turn into discontent from the fans because the board haven't delivered what they promised.  If they don't then they have still done better than the previous mob, even if they matched them by not delivering what they promised.

And breath......

Back to the game for a moment...

Lucas did alright. Amankwaah had a mare. Cuthbert(?) made a terrible mistake for their first, then goodness knows what was going on at the back for their second. Douglas and Ferry totally failed to dominate the midfield, and up front we looked toothless - we had nothing on the wings, Pericard barely had a sniff of goal and Dossevi was given offside almost every time he received the ball. Most of the time the decision was correct. JPM came on and did well, and O'Brien got at them a bit. Even Bodin had a go, which is more than could be said for many of the starting XI.

Overall, Dagenham were a poor side who didn't really play any decent football, but they thoroughly deserved to beat us today. I'd love to hear Lucas' interview as it sounds like he had it spot on. I didn't boo the team off at the end, but to be honest I can totally understand why some people did.

That depends on what targets Fitton has set him, doesnt it

Fitton and Wilson have both publicly said they want to go one better than last season, that is their aim for this season.

If we finish 12th  or 14th then Wilson has failed.

As for who I'd want, stupid question. There are so many managerial changes there is no one of knowing who is available one week to the next. Let alone next May.

Martin O'Neill would be fantastic though!

Take the last time we left Div 3 upwardly....it was based around strikers who cost collectively 750K and defenders who'd cost 600K or so.

Given the current level of investment I'd say finishing lower than 12th would be disappointing.

Last years target was play offs and 3rd round of the cup, so let's assume the targets are higher.  SO we finish 7th and get knocked out of the cup in the 2nd round you would sack Wilson?

Pick a replacement Manager that would realistically come to us from the managers that are out there.  If you sack your manager you either look around at what is available or you go and get one, so who do we go and get that would come to Swindon Town with the money we are prepared to spend and the wages we are prepared to pay?  You know that O'Neil would not come to us so be realistic.

If we finished 7th - ie not far off our target then I'd give him a stay of exicutuion. Let him know that last season wasnt good enough and he has the summer to put together a better team. Then give him 10 to 15 games to prove his worth the following season.

Anything in the bottom half of the table this season and I'd get rid.

Same answer as before re: managers. I wouldnt get rid of Wilson any earlier than the end of the season. No one knows who will be available at that time.

But stabilising from where we were to now is massive progress surely? Regarding the level of investment, we spent more money than most in the summer and we pay well for this level (top eight). The last time we left this division the football league was a different landscape.

And Berniman, I know it's a bit of a tenous example but isn't that like saying if Man City get in the top four it's an over-achievement? The target was to challenge for the top 6, the board felt they had backed wilson to enable us to challenge and we did challenge. That to me is not an over-achievement.

Let's not split hairs though, anything other than a sustained play-off challenge - even an unseccesful one - is a step backwards and a failure, and I'm sure everyone at the club would agree. Obviously if we finish 7th or 8th or 9th or whatever, a just miss the play-offs then so be it, things like that happen and you go again the next year, but midtable obscurity would be failure.

Unfortunately I'd have to agree and by and large that has been the story of Wilsons managerial career he tends to have a good season then a steady decline. It's disappointing though as he does try to play football the right way and hopefully he can turn us around but there does seem a bit of a trend with him.

I agree to a certain extent Panda, but what I am saying is, if we don't improve or get near what we did last year what do we do?  Sack the Manager, Sack the board?  I agree that there are things that need improving and that we need to push on, but these things take time and it is never a straight forward consistent climb to what you want to achieve.  You will experience set backs, you will experience peaks and troughs, even Man Utd and Man City do that.

Ideally we want to progress on last year but it is not guaranteed, and it might take another year to get to where we want to be.  Sometimes though this is something that you have to put up with to push on the following year, and drastic measures this year won't necessarily help things.

Great question.

I'd like to think we could tempt Paul Tidsdale, but it'd be a gamble and Wilson is a top manager at this level no doubt.

I personally think we'll push for the top six and Wilson will be fine here though, and I'd never dream of calling the board into question, they've been incredible for us. I expect peaks and troughs etc, which is why if we finished 9th or something, after challenging, there would be no question over Wilson or anything else.

It's interesting to read opinions regarding ambition and expectation.

Indeed, we could have easily kept going backward.

However that was the easy part, pushing on is the hard part....we've never got out of this league upwardly without having some seriously good players....Hunt, Summerbee, Rogers, Trollope, Noble, Calderwood, White, Kamara, Digby, Taylor, Thorne, Allison etc.

That is the level that the current bunch must aspire to...not easy.

So you would take a gamble on an unproven manager at this level rather than an experienced Championship/League 1 manager?  I don't necessarily disagree with your choice but think it is a gamble to bring in somebody like Tisdale and expect him to do any better than Wilson with the same restrictions in place.

Any speculation around Wilson's position, hypothetical or otherwise is bullshit. The guy led us to Wembley last season playing some of the best football I've seen in years. There were several highs and very few lows.
The team has changed this season and its not gelling yet but as arriba says cut the guy some slack. Wilson is changing personnel to see what will gel. We're far from relegation fodder and if it does gel then we're capable of putting a few wins together.
No need to panic yet. Lets see where we are at X Mas.

Really?I wouldn't.

My reasons:

He's a very good manager, as a club financially we may be doing OK (top 6-8 attendance wise, etc) but we don't have the financial clout to buy our way out the league. Given that I'm not sure what more he can do than he has done so far.

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread

Well Tisdale achieved exactly what Wilson has recently, kept a team in this division, he has achieved no more, so as far as hiring a manager that is proven at this level you have to look at people like Gary Johnson, Darren Ferguson or Lambert, but like you say they would not come down to us.  Therefore I come back to my original point.  If you get rid of Wilson, who do you get in that has more chance of doing a better job.

There aren't many around so I think we need to stay behind Wilson until he starts making decisions like playing Heywood up front!

Cant bes arsed to trawl through the whole thread but .............

Just got back and have a little time to reflect on one of the most abject performances I have seen for quite some time, reminded me very very much so of the sort of performances we delivered under Malpas.

Not good enough, simply not fucking good enough.

We have got a threadbare makeshift squad that is full of wannabe's and nearly men.

I have always shouted down people that said we were a one man team, I apologise for that because quite obviously we are.

Dossevi wowed us with his two goals against Forest and I sincerely thought that he could be a perfect foil for Charlie

I WAS WRONG

I gave Pericard massive credit at the Walsall game, thinking that he would now push on

I WAS WRONG

Coming back from injury or not.................... Ferry is a mere shadow of the player that turned out for us last season, as is Douglas, as is JP,

and dont even start me off about Amankwah

Utter fucking gash.

To start an international CF that does not even understand or interpret the offside rule beggars belief !

and before anyone hangs me out to dry, think about today, Plymouth and Walsall, any HALF DECENT striker would have slotted at least 4 of the 10 chances he has had

Bollocks to all this "its only 10 games, we are still gelling shite", we should be a cohesive squad by now.

D'oh - sorry Berniman!

I'm happy to be called a cunt and what not, but fuck me...

I want us to do better than last season. I think anything less than last season is failure and I personally think bottom half is sacking the manager failure  -  and some how thats me being negative, wanting better?!

If anything its me being stupidly ambitious and hopefull. I bet if I was all accepting of us doing nothing like reg, i'd be called negative as well.

Don't get all emotional DV, you are right in a lot of what you say, and we are all ambitous and want the team to do well obviously.

I reacted because you were making me out to look like a cunt originally by saying that my jokey statement about everybody cutting their wrist on here tonight was a stupid thing to say because what do I expect, we have just lost 2 games on the trot.  You are Swindon more than most on here Dave, but you tend to either be black or white, there is no in between, and if anyone is expressing views that are a tad gray then you tend to go on the attack.

Just a thought mate.  We are all not happy, but just because we aren't calling for heads and looking for people to blame doesn't mean that we care any less.  We haven't gone from good to bad, we are just not as good as we were if you like, and that can be worked on.  That is my opinion anyway.

Dossevi wowed us with his two goals against Forest and I sincerely thought that he could be a perfect foil for Charlie

and dont even start me off about Amankwah

Utter fucking gash.

To start an international CF that does not even understand or interpret the offside rule beggars belief !

and before anyone hangs me out to dry, think about today, Plymouth and Walsall, any HALF DECENT striker would have slotted at least 4 of the 10 chances he has had

Bollocks to all this "its only 10 games, we are still gelling shite", we should be a cohesive squad by now.

Something is seriously wrong and I am sorry but going from Play off finalists to what I spent £100 witnessing today is just not acceptable.

Absolutely spot on.

The midfield has worried me most so far. All 3 of those players need a bit of a kick up the ass. JPM has certainly reverted to the player of 2 seasons ago.

Priority should be getting in a RB and LW, the elusive experienced CB and maybe a ST required (which would mean either Pericard or Ball would be surplus when Austin is back). Also as Prutton and Douglas can't play together and both Douglas & Ferry being poor, maybe we'll need some in there as well.

Based on the season and not just on today I would say we need 1/2 strikers and a LM.  The additional CB and RB are secondary requirements IMO.

I saw that Myles Weston got man of the match for Brentford today. He tore us a new one playing on the left when we played them. These are the types of players we should be looking at.

I also see Gavin Mahon is still without a club. He'd do a job in the centre of midfield.

The fact is if every time a team goes out to bully us we succumb- we aint ever going to get out of this division.

We have not replaced the experience we lost in the summer in Greer, Paynter and until we do we will not move up the table. Why does it take Wilson so long to move in the market?

Fitton will not tolerate anothing season- Wilson's targets set are minimum of playoffs- doesnt look likely at the moment.

today was shit, yes.  we lost a game against a pretty poor side who knew how to play to their strengths and as time dragged on we gradually tried to play the same as they were.

we got the early goal and naturally they, as the home side, pressed us as they were one down, they were very direct but in the 1st half we mostly dealt with them.

2nd half we all but gifted them a goal, although i'm sure the goal kick it came from should not have been given, ball on pitch = ball not off pitch as far as i'm aware?  even so cuthbert should have done better, misreading a header by that much is poor.

from then on our midfield were completely passed by and the front two were as incoherent as a drunk TEF poster's late night rant.

i've only seen us the last three games and i do not see what dossevi offers us at all?  bodin was far better in his cameo than dossevi was in the previous 75ish.

as bad as o'brien was on tuesday he was good today, actually using a bit of pace to take the right back on a couple of times and having time to look up and try to pick somebody out.

i also got caught in the m25 jam and had to call into work to tell them i wouldn't be able to make it in as a result so all in all a shit, shit day.

just seen us on football league show and they didn't do their homework at all - apparently we lost the previous two and ended up with our third loss in a week - 7 days after they showed us beat huddersfield on their own show - one more piece of evidence as to why the show is a complete pile of shite.

We cant write off the season off the back of one or two results, but our inconsistent form is a massive fucking worry.

I really dont understand why Wilson hasn't done something positive about out lack of fire power up front. Sure, I've been all for giving Pericard, Ball and Dossevi every chance to do the business in Austins' absence, but, I expect a manager with his experience to be thinking way ahead of a cunt like me, and to have at least brought in some decent cover just in case his bit-part players didn't deliver. It scares me that he either has so much faith in a couple of players who have yet to deliver consistently for us, or is being prevented from doing something about it for reasons that we are maybe unaware of.

Also, while Timlins name wouldn't exactly be the first one on my team sheet every week, he's capable of more than adequately covering a few positions at the back and in midfield, so why the fuck was he farmed out on loan when we cant find enough experienced pro's to fill our fucking bench?

Title: Re: Dagenham & Redbridge V Swindon Town Official Match Day Thread
Post by: juddie on Sunday, October 3, 2010, 00:38:12
The problem is consistency. We don't need this, that or the other. I didn't hear anyone saying we need new centre-backs/strikers/midfielders last Saturday. We have proved we are good enough to compete, the problem is reaching that level every week.

That is what wilson must sort out.

and for all those questioning wilson, have a word!!!!!

Also, if I'd not been to the game I would be thinking we were totally shit from start to finish but we weren't. The first half we were not that bad at all apart from in the final third where to be fair, we were pretty bad and the front two were poor (Pericard more so than Dossevi) Yes I know you have to play well for TWO halves of football and to only play for one half is not good enough - we were totally out-muscled in the scond half and they clearly wanted it more - but for fucks sake I wish people could just get little bit of perspective. ::)

Had time to reflect after being truly pissed off and in full-on pessimistic mode last night.

Journeyed to the game in high hopes, and my optimism was only bouyed by the turn-out by our fans. Cracking attendance, had to have been at least half of the overall attendance surely? We were in great voice, and Dossevi's goal was of good quality and, being so early on, the signs were there that this could well've been a thrashing. How wrong i was.

From that point on we just stopped playing, persisted with hoofball, and were second best in every department. Dagenham's football wasn't pretty, but whatever it was, it was certainly better than whatever style we were playing. Lucas again proved his worth, keeping us in the game with a series of decent saves. Half time could not come any sooner and, although i was glad to go in leading, i couldn't help but think Wilson better fucking get their arses in gear.

Started slowly in the second half, Dagenham wanted it more, and did what we can't fucking do; turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win. Both goals were poor to concede, the first one could've been avoided had some fucking prick closed Scannell down. The second stemmed from poor defending from a long throw, but how we can let someone score with his back to goal i'll never know. In the space of a week our defence has turned from brilliantly solid to a mistake-prone incosistent mess.

The defeat was hard to take, especially against such an opposition. Apologies for sounding like a Leeds fan, but we shouldn't be losing to fucking Dagenham. Or we shouldn't at least be playing like that.

In terms of individual performances, only Lucas and Caddis spring to me as our stand-out performers. Says alot when you've lose 2-1 and your goalkeeper is still one of your better players. Dossevi must have got into double figures today with the offsides, so frustrating. Pericard was the Pericard of old, was woeful in holding the ball up, slipping around everywhere. Ferry and Douglas were totally ineffective, and provided the forwards with nothing. Amankwaah was awful, Rose was okay, and the centre-half partnership were poor. O'Brien and Bodin actually did well when they came up, and probably provided us with our best spell in the game late on. McGovern also seemed a hell of a lot better than recent weeks, and only a brilliant piece of goalkeeping stopped him from scoring.

Looking back, we didn't deserve to win it, and probably not even have got a draw. Embarrassing defeat, and a major set back in our attempts to climb the table. 4-4-2 needs to return urgently, and even a win in the JPT would be welcome right now. Alot will be forgiven however if we beat Rovers on national TV. Our squad needs improving, and i very much expect Wilson to delve into the loan market, expecting a forward, a midfielder (Timlin recalled or winger?) and maybe even a centre back at least.

The journey back was far from enjoyable. Stuck on the M25 for around two hours, didn't get in until quarter to 11. Coach ran out of food and drink, iPod and phone ran out of battery, and 6 hours on a coach wasn'y my idea of fun.

Keep the faith, Wilson and Fitton are the men to take us forward.

I will put this up and then look back...

Apart from a new ground for my collection and a couple of good pubs near Tower Hill that was totally shit.

Got to the ground at 8 minutes to 3 after being fucked about on the train....missed the goal becausethe Turnstiles had run out of fivers and the guy in front couldnt get in! (I had a fucking ticket as well), also concessions had to go through a special turnstile meaning the bloke in front with a kid had to send his 7 year old kid back out a around to the other side......what a load of bollocks!
Ticket bloke said it was one of those things......my reply......."Yeah if you are totally disorganised!".

We bossed the first (well lots of the ball anyway), without creating much.

Second half was a disaster of scrappy basic mistakes from both sides.....piss poor.

How the fuck can professional footballers of any level let a ball bounce three times? Bas Savage (who was marginally shitter than Vince and Dosevvi) must of thought it was Christmas.

Missed a few chances as well to rub salt in the wounds.

I loved the banter with Roberts the keeper and would of been gutted if he got booked, as he gave as good as he got. Although i thought the Paedo chants were out of order......Chanting someone is a monkey bad.......Paedo good?????

Got back to Chippenham at around 8pm with a headache.......and a few quid skinter....poor... :beers:

PS....Why did the lads in the first half get kicked out?

This makes sombre reading on a rainy Sunday morning but I guess its to be expected after yesterdays performance.

Most has been mentioned but what annoyed me the most was:

-The long ball - utterly fruitless as expected
-Top players of last season not playing anywhere near their best
-Bas Savage's half and half hair colour
-Missing the first goal by about 30 seconds
-Bodin being introduced in a game like yesterdays.  IMO he definitely has what it takes to make it, however I don't think a game like yesterday's was the best time to give him his chance when the rest of the team weren't up to scratch and we were already being outmuscled and outfought by Dagenham

Lucas is fast becoming my favourite player.  Not only because of the great saves he made but by the fact he is able to admit we were shit and not make excuses.

I'm not a nasty person.  I came here in the early hours to have a bit of a read up to see what had been said.  I am quite offended - and the attitude of most of you IS like Leeds fans appears to have been.

Yes - I understand why you think you shouldn't be losing to teams like us, but dont you think being up where we are is a bit alien to us too?  16 odd years ago you were a Premiership team, in fact i read someones status on facebook saying that 17 years ago on this weekend you played Blackburn Rovers in the Premier league......we played Altrincham in the GM Vauxhall Conference.  Since then we did drop down a level further too, and played in the Isthmian league for a few years before getting back up.  Literally, in the space of a few years we've gone from away games at Hendon to away games at Sheffield Wednesday - and we are here on merit, and after yesterday - you lot now know that.  We aren't here to boost your point tally come game 46.  We want to stay here.

To the fellow who agreed with me stating i have a 14 foot cock...thanks, its nice of you to say.

And to the bloke who said that by pictures our ground looks like a garden shed...there were almost 200 places for further Swindon fans to get in, one has to question whether there are other garden sheds around that Swindon may be able to fill a section of - as ours is obviously too big.  But well done all the same for looking at pictures and not actually going.  Big.....slow......clap for you.

To the rest of you, and those who did attend, i thought overall the away attendance was absolutely fantastic, thats the second biggest away crowd we have had in there, beaten only by Leyton Orient who filled it a few weeks ago.  Well done, thats a really good away following!

I haven't come here to fight with anyone, but it'd be nice to not see my own team being ridiculed, maybe you are embarrassed but dont be, you aren't the first and you wont be the last.  We got a fight on our hands, any point is thoroughly needed.

"You're going down, we're going up"

"My garden shed, is bigger than this"

Nice one guys, Bas Savage has been absolute quality for us, but i guess a shit striker will score against shit teams hey?

Do you ever go to your garden shed and then walk out, lock it up, and piss off back inside with nothing?  Well done for doing just that today anyway.  You fucked it at Wembley, and you fucked it today - might i just say, winning in the play offs at the new Wembley is an amazing experience.

Thanks very much you tarts.

PS - If we were poor today, im a fucking somalian with a 14 foot cock.
I was actually slightly embarassed by the 'garden shed' chants although they were somewhat inevitable. Me and the missus were only talking before the game about what an amazing achievement it is for Dag & Red to be where they are right now (that may sound patronising but it's not meant to) In an area where there are so many other long-established Football League and Premier League clubs and on such limited resources what they are doing is remarkable and fair play.

As a few others have noted, the way Roberts handled the banter today was quality ('peado' though?? again, just embrassing) And he made a bloody good save as well which would have made it 2-2.

And the bit about us fucking up at Wembley and fucking up today? Couldn't agree more mate.

All the best for the season.

When I say it was somewhat inevitable, I meant given the single figure I.Q of the average football fan. I thought the away end was a quite a nice tidy little stand.

Need a left winger and a striker with some pace who can score a goal or two.

The midfield needs to get back to trying to play the way it did last season with JP's partnership with Amankwah being restored. If you must play Prutton, try him on the left hand side doing what Ward did if you can't get someone better in. Danny's attempt to replace some of Paynters goals with Prutton from the midfield seems to have unsettled the whole unit in the middle of the park. Douglas and Ferry were shadows of last season yesterday.

Last Saturday we were good, Tuesday night we were worse and a little unlucky. Yesterday we were gash and got exactly what we deserved against a team that will surely be back League 2 next season. Not good enough at all. Yesterday cost over £100 all in, even with the cheap beer in the Dagenham social club and in return the team just didn't look bothered, cheers lads.

I have to say fair play to Roberts for the way he dealt with the barracking in the second half. He was obviously well chuffed when he pulled off that save from JP and well within his rights to give us a little bit back.

we've got just over a week now to get players in and sort things out. Don't want a performance like that against Rovers live on the telly.

Thanks!  Seems some people with sense do exist!

The Flash, i did read the turnstile bit....tbh its the kinda crap that drags us back to a past age, the only thing i can say is that this is new to us.  Away crowds that size are not known to us really, sad as that sounds.  The people we have on the turnstiles do their best, but nobody seems to think about things like running out of fivers.  Its amateurish, i admit.  It embarrasses us too, dont worry.  I dont know what the set up is round there for away fans as i am a home fan, but, were there not separate queues for ticket holders and those paying cash etc?

The only thing i would suggest in future is if you do come to Dagenham, try and get in a bit earlier than you normally would.  Its just as bad for us sometimes, i missed Exeter's goal the other week for the same reasons.

But that new stand.....well to be honest with you, the rest of the ground comes from the non-league, that does not, that stand should be the pre-cursor of the way we want to run on a matchday, not be dragged down to the level of the rest of the ground, because i am sure that you found the view from your seats decent - ive been in there to watch ESC games and i think its a terrific little stand!

A Dagger.

The away stand was fine, and with a nice little bar with Magners on tap to boot which was a nice bonus. One of the girls behnd the bar in your social club (which was fine, if a little like my local village hall) advised us to head over there about 20 past 2 to avoid queuing on the turnstiles which I appreciated.

Fair play to you for achieving League 1 status with your set up and crowds, no mean achievment. You deserved the points yesterday too, although our team were abject based on our performances last season and on occasion this term. Hope you stay up.

Sorry are you joking? We do not need any more centre midfielders!

Well I see it as a weak link. Douglas has been poor, Prutton hit and miss and Ferry has been no better. I don't see a problem bringing another in. Wilson wants some physicality and that's what an experienced pro like Mahon would bring.

The defeat was hard to take, especially against such an opposition. Apologies for sounding like a Leeds fan, but we shouldn't be losing to fucking Dagenham. Or we shouldn't at least be playing like that.

Hey, in the home section we cannot even buy alcohol of any sort during the game, and anytime we ask about it being sorted for us we get a resounding 'no'.  The club is certainly missing a potential cash cow there i think.  I wont even drink in the clubhouse often.  It gets way too crowded, both upstairs and downstairs.

What are the queues like down there in away stand when buying burgers, beer etc at half time?

And thanks, i hope that you guys have a good season too.  I know i rubbed it in a bit with my post last night, but i did feel for you watching that game at Wembley the day before ours - particularly the chance Austin scuffed because of the pitch.

No queues at all before the game, and I managed a pint and a piss at half time. The social club wasn't that busy while I was in there either, didn't have to wait for more than a couple of minutes to get served.

Dagger, I didn't go (thank God) but I think most people:

a) recognise it's a tremendous achievement for you guys to have got where you are
b) expected to get something from the game not because you're Dagenham but because of your league position/form so far. We allegedly have play-off pretensions, if we're serious about that we should be able to get at least a point from a team second from bottom with only one win to date. That would apply if you were Dagenham/Tranmere/Hartlepool/whoever

I think your own manager has been far more patronising to you, calling beating us the greatest result in your history. I mean, we're not exactly Arsenal. If I was a D&R fan, I'd have been furious at that - surely you must have better historic moments than that?

And finally we do actually have massive garden sheds round here. Mine will hold 1700, 2000 if I take the lawnmower out and move the garden chairs and tools round a bit

I'm hoping to get planning permission to redevelop the 4th side into a sports/leisure complex, with optional hotel opportunity. But there needs to be access points so I can get the mower in and out, which is the sticking point at the moment

We are suckers for teams who have come up out of non league. Always have been.

Last time I saw Bas Savage he could barely run and our fans were literally laughing at him (Tranmere at home).

After taking the lead we should have won this game. Amankwaah's defending of their equaliser is incompetant. Arses need to be kicked.

I worry for us at Peterborough and I dont think I will travel. I can see them putting 4 past us. Rovers have won 3 out of 4. Consistancy is their downfall, but when they are switched on they are a decent side.

Things do change though, Im far from writing off the season, but this looks like a sticky patch.

Judging by the fuss that they made about Dagenham's win on the Football League Show and the comments that their own manager made afterwards, it would seem so.

I didn't go yesterday, but my brother did and his sum up was 'Pretty poor, strikers were a waste of space, midfield not much better, defenders slightly better again, Lucas top of the list.  Could have snatched a draw, but Wilson left it to late to make any changes.  Not good enough and disappointing to say the least'

Having read the comments of others that went, it seems a fairly accurate sum up.  It's quite clear we need to strengthen the team and most of us have been saying that for weeks.  Dossevi and Pericard have had their chance and I don't believe they're ver going to do any better than we've seen tbh.  I disagree with Wilson's comment about not being desparate to go out to the loan market, I think it is becoming so.  We have absolutely no real strength on the bench or players that are likely to come on and change a game (apart from McGovern yesterday?)

The only good thing is that the league seems to be completely wide open and everyone is dropping points left right and centre.  It's just a shame we're not capitilising on this and I'm sure soon, teams will start to settle and potentially start to pull away.  Unless something drastically changes, unfortunatelu I can't see us being one of them!

sorry A Dagger but bas savage is shit, we've seen him a number of times and formed that opinion over time, though he was to much for our defence to handle on the day

i did think you were fairly poor as far as real football goes but like i said earlier (last night) you knew exactly how to play to your strenghts and your players did you proud by putting in the effort that our players obviously didn't.

as it goes i was glad you came up and was also glad to see you finally make it into the league as you've been knocking on the door for a while and your rise goes to show exactly what supporting lower league/non league is all about and furthermore makes even more of a mockery of the abomination that is the Franchise - promise me you make them know that you're here on merit and that their very existance is a spit in the face of all teams like you who are busting a gut to get into the professional leagues.

i hope you stay up but naturally hope we get the better of you at the CG

How many players are playing to their full potential like last season? That's the major difference in my opinion.

My personal view is that the squad ins't settled. I'm not sure Wilson knows what he wants from the team and the players in the system. I'm sure I read he wanted to be more direct down the flanks earlier this season, then he's chosen to play very narrow after that.

We are missing danny ward thats for sure or someone like him where they can get at the opposition defence and give them something else to think about even when we had macca teams had to double up,Ball dont seem as effective as ward was outwide and i dont think O'Brein is the answer either,Just maybe we have to many adaptable players rather than just a good old fashioned winger who can take on players and weigh in with a few decent crosses and goals.

I tend to agree with Si about danny not knowing his best system or where to play certain players.

I'd also like to see Dossevi on the left as there's less chance he'll get caught offside.

this is a very good point, left or right for me running at em from deep...correct me if I'm wrong as I can only go on what I've previously been told and supposedly what is on youtube clips of him playing for Nantes, but this guy is a 31 year old attacking midfielder and not a striker. This is a classic case of square pegs round holes and the guy isn't used to playing on the toes of an oppositions back four I wouldn't imagine. Yes, of course he knows the offside rule, but if you've learnt your trade for 15 years playing wide right for instance, most of the time you're at least 20 yards behind your strikers.

The same can be said of attempting to turn Ball into a midfielder when he is a striker, again, square pegs round holes.

Yes we miss Paynter and Ward (more than most of us would have imagined) but lets get back to basics, 4-4-2 and start grinding out results and get the players hunting in packs.

Fuck me I thought my cup was half empty but the doom n gloom merchants on here need to have a word!....and no I wasn't there yesterday and neither did I listen to the apparent custard pie commentary.

Ralphy we aint sorted until we replace key players adequately from last season.

We badly miss Paynters goals (cannot see Pericard and Dossevi reaching his tally between them) and the experience of Greer at the back. Greer may have had his faults ala needless free kicks and lack of pace- but he organised the back line something we are badly missing which is borne out by the inconsistancy of the performances so far.

We also badly miss Ward and Darby.

With the side we have- we will be lucky to finish 12th, we just do not have the quality and strength in depth we had last season. Rectify these areas and we should have a good shot at playoffs again- but why is it that Wilson seems to dither so in the transfer market- lack of action is costing us dear.

Well here's my views on yesterday. Awful from front to back to be quite honest. We rarely looked like creating anything. The passing game wasn't there again. Dossevi doesn't know what the offside rule is, Ferry was dreadful as was Cuthbert. Despite being crap in the first half we were still in complete control and didn't look like conceding. In the 2nd half it got even worse though. A poor header from Cuthbert allows them to get in for the first and I haven't got a clue what happened for the 2nd but if you let Bas Savage score then you've got to have some serious words with yourselves. 2 poor goals to give away. We didn't deserve to win the game at all and probably got the defeat our performance meritted. Dissapointing day to say the least. The few positives I took from the game were Billy Bodin, AOB actually ran this time and put in a few decent balls....erm that's about it. At the moment we can't score and we can't defend. It doesn't bode well. We badly missed Austin and Prutton (yes Prutton) yesterday IMO. I thought Rose was alright again but Sheehan is still better I think. We need some loan signings in to help give us a spark as it's just not happening for us at the moment.

Saw the goals on TV. Didn't really show the first we conceded too well. The second it looks like Rose took care of his man, Morrison seemed to be in no mans land between Rose's man Cuthbert and thus out the game when the ball sailed over his head. Then Cuthbert let his man turn too easily and shoot (and score).

Easy to say from the sidelines, but it was a very very soft goal.

I couldn't help but shout at the TV  "Don't let it fucking bounce you useless tossers".

It's the first thing you try and teach kids as defenders, as bad things tend to happen when you do let it happen

Just watched the highlights on my new iPhone Football League app thingy.

Can't believe how bad our defending was at times, looked like a bunch of school boys who'd only just started playing. On the other hand, we had a few decent chances ourselves so much like the Plymouth game it could have turned out differently.

We've just played shit, lost twice in a week  - you come onto our forum and take the piss.

What the fuck were you expecting? a medal?

I dont think any of us thought we deserved the win just for turning up. The reason you got the attitude was because you came to take the piss and unsurprisingly we're in pretty bad moods this week.

The comments were made before i made a post.  It isnt my fault you cant work that out.

Haha, cheers - same to you.

If its any consolation to any of you lot, we do have a bit of a link.  Most Dagger's i speak to, myself included (not that i admit to speaking to myself.....and neither do i) fucking hate Oxford from our days playing then in non-league recently.

Presumably for the same reasons most of League One now strongly dislike Leeds.

I haven't got the heart (or the time) to read through 29 pages of this.  Great day out apart from the football bit.  The highlight, probably, was learning that donkey was someone I'd actually known for about 10 years.

Was a very strange game I thought.  For the first 20 minutes you were clearly the better side, but then took your foot off the gas.  Between minutes 20 and 80, I am not sure you attempted to come forward at any stage.  Maybe scoring the goal so early was a bad thing, as you then just set up camp in your own half till we went ahead??  Happened against Exeter the other week as well when they scored after 5 minutes and then decided to defend for 85.  I know when teams are away from home you have to be tight etc etc, but I personally think some teams at this level are over playing that, and not playing to their strengths.  The two lumps up top for you won everything for 20 minutes, but then the whole approach seemed to change.

Also interesting to note a few of the "long ball" comments about us earlier in the thread.  I would say most sides in this league appear to play fairy long, but we tend to do it early.  Swindon, and even more so Charlton last week, seem to pass the ball square across the back line for 10 passes, and then lump it forward anyway, whereas we just cut out the square passes first!!!

Anyway, I would imagine you will be in the top 10 come the end of the season with the players you have.  When you actually went forward you looked a pretty powerful side (like the last 10 minutes).

Great support by the way.  We have had a few big turn outs for local derbies and cup games, but for a league game with a journey of 100 odd miles we haven't.  Saw a few Swindon  fans in the Yeoman in Upminster before the game as well, so hope you enjoyed your day.  See you at the CG later in the season.

You'll give a lot of teams problems at home. Like the comment about playing across the back then lumping it btw. We are prone to that sometimes when we are struggling for ideas, but like you say if you're going to do it properly cut out the fannying around!

When we're playing well, the passes across the back line are followed by passes into the midfield then good balls in to the strikers. Unfortunately we've been rather short of ideas at times this season, so have been stuck passing it around the back four.

Very true.  We are nothing without Fitton.
