What adje said!

Wouldn't surprise me to see both Wise and Gus make an appearance even if not for long. Also expect to see Lukas play some part

Id like to see CCP in the middle of midfield though

think the team adje has posted will start, perhaps pook instead of holgate though.

most of the others will be involved over the course of the game, would be surprised if wise or poyet played though. i hope i'm wrong!

i take it the injury that forced vincent off on thursday wasn't serious then?

Like we have a clue!  :P

I hope he plays because I want to see all the new guys and see if we are as good as we have been made out to be.

On second thoughts maybe CCP will play in the middle. Good point Sonic

Its only a friendly and im guessing Palace have got their big guns playing now in the second half.  It will be interesting to see if Wise actually plays in any pre season friendlies, as hes easily good enuf to play for us

Title: Swindon Vs Palace Match thread!
Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, July 23, 2006, 15:19:23
I think Palace are playing a mix of both youth and experience in either half.

Either way this friendly looks to have produced a useful run-out for the players, which is the most important thing.

POOK IN "NOT BAD"SHOCKER!

Title: Swindon Vs Palace Match thread!
Post by: Batch on Sunday, July 23, 2006, 16:58:47
I'd agree that Pook didn't do too bad.

The game was fairly entertaining in the whole. Roberts looked lively and Peacock the same. Early on it was all Swindon and  we were reworded when Robers outmuscled a covering defender in the box and scored with a low hard shot from a reasonably tight angle. Then Beast pounced just inside the box and smashed home for 2-0. Oviously Palace have quality and hit back before the break.

After the break it was all Palace for 20 mins. They scored and only one team were in it. Credit to us, we came back at them and Fola the tall bloke rounded the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line. Brownlie also hit the bar when he maybe should have scored.

Thought Holgate did well in the most.
Weston looked very good but had a slight tendancy to overdo it.
Monkhouse (aka Bob) was OK but not spectacular.
Roberts looked reasonably sharp and created his goal well. Same for the Cock, minus the goal.
Ifil looked mostly OK  but was nearly caught out in the end in true Ifil style.

Good run out. Palace may have had more in the tank if they needed it but they should do given the are a championship team. The only dower was Jack Smith being subbed after 44 mins with what looked like a suspect broken arm/wrist,

Brownlie hs a good eye for goal but I am still not convinced he has the all round play. Hit the bar, tried to punch one in.
Rodrigo had less time on the pitch and struggled to get into the game, very difficult to judge.

Brown got rightly boo'd. But then the namby pamy lesbian animal rights vegaterrians counter acted by clapping his every move. Very ashmed at that. Unless he comes out and says he wants to stay he is taking up part of the wage bill and the sooner he is gone the better. The difference between him and O'Hanlon was the latter found anoth club to escape to.

Fola suprised me. Not sure abot the stepovers but he seemed very willing to run defenders and cause general panic. After seeing him at Ciren I had consigned him to the 'donkey' but but I may have to rethink.

I like Fola. Feared the worst from reports of fans from his previous clubs, but he can play. I still think Brownlie is dodgy, but if we can pay him peanuts then why not. Rather see Lukas J getting a run out. Turnes the Uruguayan looks too lightweight to me.

I still think Pook was by far the weakest player on the pitch, bandwagon jumping or not. Ducked out of several headers and made few connecting passes. Dont know why anyone wants to defend Brown, hes exactly the sort of non caring lazy big headed unduly arrogant player who got us relegated last season. Now he thinks he's too good for Dennis Wises fitness training as well, doesnt want to work, do the decent thing and resign Aaron. Nicholas seems to be perservering with the head juggling when he should be heading clear that lost us the game vs Brentford. Terrifying to think he is our first replacement as a centre back.

Could Shakes and Holgate be showing signs of improvement? Roberts certainly is. Peacock, still the player who covers most ground.

fair point, he does miss some sitters but i'm confident he can get goals for us. you're right though, i'd rather see jutkiewicz given a chance.

shakes definitely seems to be looking more of a player, it seems as though somebody actually told him how to use his pace instead of just being told to play right-wing.

holgate didn't look any different to me than he ever has before.

I thought Holgate looked OK in the middle, but he's got a lot to do to keep Weston out on that display.

Was a little disapointed with Monkey, thought he did very little.

Shakes looked much better.

Saw the Cock for the first time today due to my being away and I can see why you lot enthuse about him.

Christian looked much more willing, well done to him.

Thought CCP had a decent game at LB.

Fola looked very good, I'd certainly like to see him stay.

All in all a good performance and I was amazed at all the movement and the nice tidy short passing they managed to pull out at times.

A good game.

i enjoyed that today.first game at the cg in 5 years so it was good to see the players we talk about every week.couple of things i noticed, shakes looks good but has no end product, ccp looks good enough to cover at left back if needed.ifill strong solid and quick but lacks composure but he is still young so plenty of time.pook seemed ok and the 2 strikers seemto have a good understanding so that looks promising.the one who stood out for me was weston he looks a very talented player

its hard for me reg tbh as i have not seen any sort of football live for 5 years but i have to say they looked sharper fitter and stronger than what i was expecting.as i can only go by what i have heard for 5 years i was expecting it to be shocking today but i was very suprised.going on what i,ve read, heard  etc i think with fitness and better managment last year reg we might of had a chance of staying up so on that basis alone i think we do have a good chance.

Fair enough...seems to me we've still got the perennial problem of being too lightweight in midfield....Whalley doesn't look like he's fit and last season was poor anyway....Wise doesn't want to play.....don't see Holgate as a midfielder.

Last season we looked like a side for the period that Paul Smith was in the team.....it was instructive watching Michael Hughes for Palarse in the second half....just the sort we need, make yourself available give the ball, get it back, keep it moving, look for a pass....Weston and Pook to an extent did it in the first half.....but are probably too inexperienced to maintain it over a long season.

i enjoyed that today.first game at the cg in 5 years so it was good to see the players we talk about every week.couple of things i noticed, shakes looks good but has no end product, ccp looks good enough to cover at left back if needed.ifill strong solid and quick but lacks composure but he is still young so plenty of time.pook seemed ok and the 2 strikers seemto have a good understanding so that looks promising.the one who stood out for me was weston he looks a very talented player

So on that evidence can you see us mounting any sort of challenge this season?

spot on what you say about hughes reg he is the sort we need.tbh i think wise will play if he has to he of all people will know that every team needs his sort of player in the team and we still have two weeks to sign someone in that position.it looks like wise still isnt sure who he wants as he seems to have tried everyone else.

imo we need one more central midfielder.cover on the right wing and maybe one more striker

Boland has not been offered a deal by Swansea. Maybe he will get another chance?

Brezovan looked good from crosses but didn't have much to do really and couldn't help the goals!

The defence looked okay as a whole although I'm not sure about CCP at letf-back.

Shakes looked alright, some nice touches. Weston was the best player on the pitch in the first half with some great touches and vision, whil Monkhouse and Pook were quiet but Pooky did make a few challenges to be fair.

Roberts looked very lively and Peacock was looking sharp too. Brownlie had one off the crossbar after a great move involving Shakes and Fola, and Kiraly also made a great save from a near-certain goal when Brownlie shot from 20-25 yards out.

Brown came on and got booed quite a lot then nearly scored a screamer, Holgate was at fault for their second and you could see he knew it from his reaction, and Fola looked quite good and very pacey - nearly scored when he got round Kiraly but was forced too wide.

On the whole I was very pleased and think we looked like a good team with good STRUCTURED play which is what i enjoy watching. Long ball was certainly not in the game plan.

The only disappointment for me was Rodrigo as he looked hopeless when defending. Maybe if he gets more of a chance to attack he will look better

Having been watching STFC throughout that period, they looked sharper fitter and stronger than I was expecting as well. Came away from yesterday very encouraged by our prospects for next season - that side would have put in a strong challenge in L1 last season. Still a bit worried that we look a bit light in midfield, but it's leagues ahead of what we were watching last season.

i was very impressed with Curtis Weston in centre of our midfield. I fola played well yesterday when he came on he is pretty quick for a Tall guy.
