I got the DVD of the '69 League Cup win for Christmas and just watched it. Why was the pitch in such a shit state?

I know pitches weren't as good back then, but I've also seen the '66 World Cup final which was also at Wembley and the pitch was much better.

Thought I'd ask you Reg as you're probably the only one on here that can actually remember it Wink

horse of the year show was on at wembley the week before.

i remember it like it was yesterday.

it's not like wembley to have an inappropriate sport played on the pitch the week before an important game, is it?

Arsenal were simply "outgunned" on the day...
Swindon were cheered on by 30k supporters who wanted the impossible and thats exactly what happened..never will I forget that day.
Just as Swindon beating West Ham in 67....and many other famous victories.
Hopefully the good times will return again.
And bollocks about the Wembley pitch favouring Arsenal... same for both sides.

For me our terrible  cup record over the last 10 years has been hard to take.

Probably up until 95/96, we were generally known as a difficult club to play against in cups....especially at the CG.  Since then its been more or less shit even in the Skoda Hub Cap.

I suppose the rule changes in the LC haven't helped.....the 2-2 draw at Leeds was old skool, and we may well have roled them over in a replay....would have been a good night anyway, but the bigger clubs fucked that one up.

A particular annoyance is managers trying to be like Ferguson or Wenger and putting out weakened teams.  Why did Sturrock do this v Cheltnum, this season would have been ideal for a run in the JPT...realistically we're probably mid table....getting to Wembley would have generated so much excitement in the fanbase.
