There is talk that tickets against Rovers will be £3 more expensive to cover extra policing and stewarding to avoid crown invasions.

Nice bit of insider knowledge Birdy, I now need to find myself an ST holder to get me ticket - and toy with the dilema of missing a family do for a one year old who won't know the difference if I'm there or not, and avoid the emotional blackmail that will invariably follow - don't they realise we've only been promoted twice in the 17 years I've been going!

That said I just phoned the miserable ticket office fella, apparently we have 1200, which is that pikey little temporary stand in the picture above. They aren't planning to open the terrace because of trouble at the recent shitty match.

Cos they need the money. If safety issues are the reason for reducing our number then i agree with Ooh Shaun Taylor that it should have been switched to the gate. That ground is a lot easier to police in and we could have taken a good few thousand.

Post by: Spencer_White on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 16:48:31
Posted on thr brfcforum and got some pretty good responses. As Id expect really, usually found Rovers supporters knowledgable about the game. A lot of them saying its pathetic weve only been given 1200 tickets.

"Mr Swindon Man, if you are prepared to sit in a home section then the Guinness Stand would be best for you with regards to lack of trouble. If you would prefer to stand then I would recommend the Family Enclosure, though men unaccompanied by either women or children will be refusd entry. If this affects you, then stand in either the Mead Civil Engineering terrace or the DAS Enclosure. "

DAS enclosure looks good. You play it by ear. Wouldnt fancy that Blackthorn, but some of the others look well do-able.

Been offered tickets today off a rovers fan in their end yeovil if you fancy it?

Some people have been pretending to be season ticket holders. They just said some random name and the ticket office guy believed them, didn't even check.

Worth a try.

Anyone who knows Bristol well knows Parkway is more than two miles from the Memorial Ground. It has got to be at least a 45 minute to an hour's walk away. Don't even consider getting off at Temple Meads, its even further.

There are some smaller stations between Temple Mead and Parkway, but for the life of me I can't recall what they are. I imagine they'll be busy will Gasheads though.

Ive been told that the Club might be asking for more tickets due to Police advice, as they don't want loads of Town fans going to Bristol without tickets.

Of course some will go regardless but if they can get a further 700 tickets then thats 700 less wandering about Bristol City Centre on match day.

Excellent.

Sounds like a better plan.

Do you need to buy the rail tickets in advance ?

I hardly ever use Trains

Title: Rovers away
Post by: mattboyslim on Friday, April 13, 2007, 13:55:45
You can do - it can be cheaper - but it usually involves booking specific train - given the police prescence that day I'd be a little cautious about how much freedom we're gonna have to wander and catch trains as we like.  Pay on the day shoudl be fine - it might be cheaper to get day returns etc.

Play about on www.nationalrail.co.uk

or look into a group 4 ticket - 4 travelling together can save a few quid

Not sure. Isn't it cheaper if you buy four in advance? If it's me, Birdy, you and we can get one more (Village? Sonic?) Could do that.

A return bought on the day is £29.50  :o

But if I book in advance direct from First Great Western about £11. Think Matt's right though, have to specify which train.

Let me know as I'll be booking them over the weekend

Can't be arsed to type it all out again:

Quote
We're on the 10.41am from Didcot (departs Swindon at 11am) and on the 6.50pm back from Montpelier. We can try for the 5.50pm, but I think we'll be kept in for a while after the game and to get the tickets cheap you have to specify the trains. If we do get out in time for the 5.50pm we can just chance it, as all they can do is kick us off at the next station if we get caught.

Pay on the day would have been £29.50 from Didcot, but ours were £16.50 by booking in advance. Call First Great Western - 08457 000125 to get a cheap ticket delivered to your home address if they release more tickets/think you'll be coming.

You can always go to Parkway and head down the A38 on the 73/74 bus ... drop you right outside. From Filton AW go out and turn left towards A38 then left again. Same buses from there.

You're talking a few hundred yards' diffference to be honest, Ralphy ... I used to live near there.

Montpelier is better as there are way more 'safe' pubs on the way up Gloucester Road in that direction.

The Hobgoblin, Bipshops' Tavern and stuff are quite near the station and I've never had any trouble in them at all ... The Anchor, though, which is a bit further up I'd probably avoid as I've seen a few fights in there before now.

Have to say that is concerning me a bit.I can imagine the police just lumping us all together in the nearest pub regardless of the fact that we've got tickets to go to Montpelier. If that happens we'll probably end up getting to the game with half of the match gone due to the slowness of the police escort we'll be forced to go in :(

Yep!!! Couldnt agree more Ash. Being in a big police escort is far safer than walking the streets.

I think it will be like the last time we played oxford away. Police at swindon and on the train. Then police escort at bristol and they decide where we drink. they provided buses for us at that oxford game.

Just heard a rumour that they are not letting swindon fans on any trains till 10.40 and they are planning on keeping everyone together all the way. No idea if this is true. Although it wouldnt suprise me if we are not allowed to all go in different directions once we get to bristol.

I was just thinking that. It's not that hard to register on a forum and find out the general talk on drinking venues b4 games. Seems a bit unlikelythat this is the case, but an 80+ mob in an unprovoked attack just happened to appear????? Started the day at 9 with a mug of coffee in the Groves as I was hungover, the others abused this clearly 'gay' choice so I got a bit carried away.

Ace day out.

I drank loads but yet when i got home felt strangely sober. We were even doing shots before the game in one pub.

The funniest part of my day was taking a piss by some emergency doors round the side of a pub (as no pubs opened to 12 which was annoying) and a lady who worked there opening the door and pissing on her a bit then she went mental at me. She shut the door and i finished my piss.  :soapy tit wank:

Sizz is one of the nicest guys you will meet sonic.  I deal with many 'cunts' through work and he certainly isnt one.

He got up at 6am to queue up for tickets, if someone was too lazy or not organised to get one then they deserve to pay £7 extra.  £25 for a ticket isnt too bad, ralph paid that.

For the record the six I got I sold for £18

I'm only on my first bottle of red wine. Got another 2 left, should keep me going for a few hours.

That's classic error in judgement youthy. If you're going to be craving John Smith's then you make sure you buy some before the shops close. I often make 10pm trips to the shop, just in case I need more than 2 bottles of wine for the night. And as I've said before, the shop on Kent Road is the greatest of all shops.
