The away end only holds 1200. If we can pick up some form then there's every chance we'll sell it out. I'm hoping to make it to this one.

Should sell out down there, or at least close. Could be like Barnet ca. 2007

Even if we haven't we'll still take 900-1000, normally do for a saturday london game. Might be a bit of a rush for tickets!

About £30 return + tube if you book now. Obviously getting a groupsaver will make it cheaper.

Anyone looking at trains, if you get a groupsave 4 ticket, make sure you split the ticket at Didcot as it works out 44 quid from Didcot to London Paddington (for 4 people inc tube) and then about 17 from Swindon - Didcot so just over 60 quid total for all 4 people travelling.

I would probably go via the Jubilee Line to West Ham and pickup the District Line there with a refreshment stop at the Market Porter.

I'd prob take the brown line down to embankment, then on the green one to see Dagenham Dave.

Anybody who's thinking of travelling to the game at Dagenham, needs to be aware that they'll

be plenty of football fans in the area, as West Ham are at home to Fulham that afternoon.

Suggest allowing a bit more time,if travelling by Tube.

I'm getting rather concerned about being able to buy a ticket for this tbh. What is the away capacity? Can Daggers let us have some of the home area because of demand?

I need to know. I wanna go!

Done some digging and match tickets should be about £22 for adults and £15 for the tax dodgers. There is a £2 reduction if bought in advance. Train looks to be about £16 each return in a groupsaver of 4 if you split at Didcot. Not too shabby.

£22 for a team that was not long ago non league that's poor

It is illegal, but they're not the same sort of area. One is an (uncovered) terrace, one is a brand new seated end

Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, September 6, 2010, 14:01:54
It is a tiny little ground with one of the lowest capacities (6,078) I went there in 84 when we got a draw and it was then a typical non league ground with very poor facilities, it was packed that day with about 3,000 there of which Swindon took about 1,000 of those.

The ground has been hugely improved upon now but is still pretty much a non league ground size wise.

Wish I was going.

I think West Ham are at home to Fulham that day so wouldn't go near Upton Park as it will be rammed.

Think the grounds website said get an overground train to Barking then a local serivce.

This may last all season. (I hope so!)

By the way Luce, Dan's season ticket is available for Saturday October 23rd (Home to Orient). Let me know if Joe wants it.

Just ring up. They'll post out 1st class you'll have it by wednesday morning. Far better than running the risk of not getting in.

The capacity at Dag & Red is 6000 and apart from Orient when they got just over 4000, they've only been getting just over 2000 so I don't think there's any danger of that.

Away end is only 1200 though, and we normally take double what we sell pre game, so 600 gone so far , so I wouldn't fancy the panic* for the price of postage.

Thanks.  I'll give them a call.

District (unless you want to get on at Ealing or Richmond end), Hammersmith and City and Central lines are all ok Saturday. It also says the Circle will be fine, which would be a miracle if it is. I'll believe that when I see it.

Go straight upstairs to the Mad Bishop Benz. Then onto the tube to another watering hole before heading onto the ground. Or something along similar lines.

Dagenham fan in peace!!!

Just thought I would provide some more info for you for those going on train etc tomorrow.

Nearest Station is Dagenham East.  Come out of station and go left, and ground is 4th turning on left, about 10 minute walk from Station.

With regards to pubs in the area etc, not that great a choice to be honest!!  If you come from the Station and go past the ground about 200 yards there is the Eastbrook (by the traffic lights) which is ok and normally allows away fans in one of the bars.  If you come out of Station and go right, just at the bottom of the hill is the Railway, but not been in there for ages so can't comment.  Does have SKY Sports, pool tables etc.  And finally there is the Bull.  If you come out of Station and go right, past the Railway, it is about 400 yards on the right.  Be warned, it is then a 15 minute walk back to ground.

For food in the area, there is a Pie and Mash shop next to the Eastrbook pub.  Also between Station and ground is a decent chippy.  Food in ground is very good, and you have your own bar and food area with TVs etc under the stand.

If you want to drink anywhere more locally then Romford or Upminster are ok if you are earlier.  Romford can be reached on overground train from Liverpool St in 20 minutes, and there are loads of pubs and bars right next to Station.  You then want bus 103 to the ground (15 minutes).  Upminster is 20 minutes on overground train from Fenchurch Street.  Good pub where we drink next to the Station called the Essex Yeoman.  It is then 4 stops back on the District Line.

If you want anymore info let me know.  Oh, and the Aldgate Exchange is nearer Aldgate East than Aldgate.  Make sure you go back into Aldgate East after so you can get District Line out to Dagenham.

Is'nt there a Social Club at the Club itself?  Any good?

Yeah, there is a Social Club at the ground.  Only thing is, I am not sure how this works now we are at this level (it's a big thing to us you see).  It used to be fine, and it was just £1 to sign in (or just walk past the old boy on the door!!!) and all fans mixed.  For Exeter the other week it was fine and their fans were in there, and we did our normal and just walked in without being asked as well.  Just depends what the Plod have said I guess.

If you can get in, it is fine.  Open from 11am, two big bars downstairs and one upstairs (which isa bit nicer if you can get up there!!!).  Pool table, several TVs, etc etc.  I would try there, and if you can't then get in the Eastrbook is only two minutes away, or if it is bit later, you can get a beer in your stand (unlike us!!!).

Have you ever has a club of similar size to Swindon turn up with a little over their allocation? Say about 1300/1400? What do the club do if this happens? Is there anywhere else to house them or do they end up in the home end?

Title: Re: Daganhem away
Post by: UD161 on Friday, October 1, 2010, 12:31:26
Only the Orient game and that was a bit different.  They sold their allocation (1,200) before the day and some went in the home end.  However, although it is a local derby, there has never been any issues and this was the case again.

With all due respect, I would say there is no way you will bring 1,200 or more.  I have heard so many times on forums etc over the years what Club's expect to bring, and only on about two occasions have they ever bought as many as they said!!!  If you do, then no, there is nowhere else apart from the stand you have behind the goal (1,200).  The seating to one side of that is the family stand and the terracing to the other is all home terracing.

I look forward to seeing the 900 of you on Saturday  ;)

We shall see mate!!! I hope you bring 2,000 to be honest!!!  We need to make as much money from big games like Swindon, Orient, Saints, Sheff Weds etc as we can!!! Also, there is very very little trouble at our games ever, so if a few people end up in the home end I don't think it will be an issue unless people start to play up.

Ha ha, good old Barnet!!  I wouldn't have thought we would be outnumbered tomorrow, although not far off.  We appear to be stuck with home support at the 1,600-2,000 level even since going up.  Our gates have increased a lot (% wise) over the last few years, but this is due more to away numbers increasing rather than home support.

I wouldn't feel sheepish about your attendances.  Punching above your weight in football is what it's all about.  (Hope this does not sound overly patronising, but) D&RFC have done brilliantly to reach League One.  In fact, when the fans of the very big clubs in this league (Sheff Weds, Leeds last year etc - teams punching under their weight) start showing off about attendances, how big they are etc, I can't help but think they've got it all horribly wrong.  A 20,000 attendance figure in this league should be a source of shame, not pride.

Title: Re: Daganhem away
Post by: UD161 on Friday, October 1, 2010, 13:14:11
Oh totally, I know what you mean, and in a way it makes it all the better for us that we are doing it like this, especially as unlike some other Clubs who have gone up the pyramid with small crowds (Wigan for instance) we are not being bankrolled to do it either.

However, I think the fact the home crowds have not increased at all must be frustrating for the players, management and the board in some ways.  Our support away from home has increased (600 at Col U, 700 at Charlton, 220 at Bournemouth) and although the numbers themselves aren't large, as a % of home support they are pretty good.  The only annoying thing for me is that we sold 15,000 tickets for the play off final in May.  I know all Clubs suffer from this (I am sure you did in the play offs all them years back), and I know that our group took aabout 25 of us, whereas only about 9 of them will be there tomorrow!!!

I think you will enjoy the day anyway.  The ground is not what you will be used to, but the stand you are in is pretty smart (for us!!!).  The area is also not as bad as some on here have made out, and you will have see worse on that front!!

Fair enough, good numbers, although that was my point to be honest.  Probably over 3 times your average home support I am guessing.

Don't get me started on Oxford!!!  Dreadful place that.  Not a fan of these grounds in the middle of nowhere anyway, especially when they have three sides.  And never has a Club talked about how many fans it would take to away games than P0xford did when they were in the Conference.

We're risking a 'get a room' comment from someone, I know.  But you couldn't be more right about the ground location.  We're announcing plans soon for a redevelopment of the County Ground and most of our fans that I speak to are delighted (as I am) that we're staying in a relatively central location.  Park a club on the periphary of town in a trading estate or next to B&Q (yes, Reading, I'm looking at you) and the matchday experience is bound to suffer.  Horribly.

Tomorrow is going to be my second trip to your ground.  I went with a West Ham supporting friend to a pre-season Daggers vs Hammers friendly in about 2002.  Johnny Moncur, one of my to players ever to have seen in a Town shirt, was playing for West Ham that day.  Looking forward to coming back.

There is an interesting debate on our forum about out of town grounds which was started after Tuesday's visit to Colchester's new ground, which most Daggers fans seemed a bit underwhelmed with.  As I say though, Poxford is just about the worst for many reasons.  Jesus, even in a cab from the station it seemed to take forever.  Mind you, we didn't mind to much, as the only time we went was the night we all but sealed the Conference title.

Never been to the CG so looking forward to trip there later in the season.  I am guessing as you can see it from the Station it is pretty close to the town centre.

My only sporting trips to Swindon before have been to the Link Centre to watch hockey.

Tickets at turnstiles mate.  Well, it is for home fans, so presume it's same for away.  In fact certain.  Our ticket office itself is a desk next to the bar pretty much still, so would not be able to cope with any traffic on matchdays!!  Is £2 extra (at £22) on the day.  If you are coming into ground from Victoria Road (from Dag East) you want to go through the car park, round back of Supporters Club, and to the far end.

Ha ha, no, I wasn't Dagger on the Oxford forum.  I did used to use the forum he used, and his wind ups did make me smile, but I stopped posting on there after we won the Conference. Seemed a bit pointless carrying on after that.
