Accuse me of being negative if you like, but i hope there are constant rain interruptions,16 years is too long.Since i  got into cricket there have been 2 ashes series, and being stuffed by the convicts  made it humiliating and dispiriting being an english cricket fan.Now its in our grasp,i don't care how we win that urn back.

I quite agree larwood, but I'm going to Regent's Park on Sunday, so as long as we get some cricket then I'll be happy.

We were robbed by a day of rain at Old Trafford so I hope it pisses down all weekend, we should be 3-1 up and have it all wrapped up already.

Surely all we need to do is to just play really defensive right from the start, and just play for a draw, and run out of time..... its negative, but it will be great when we win :)

and just play for a draw

The trouble is that the way test cricket is now you can't really play for a draw, just look at the last four tests, only the manchester test went to 5 days, and that was because of the lost day.The best thing we can do is try and carry on the way we've been playing and hope it rains and  we win the toss.

If you play for the draw from the off in a Test match you are guaranteed to lose.

We got in this position by being positive so why should we change. Have faith

Don't get too down yet guys, we've got an extra 'batsman' in Collingwood, so there'll be a chance of some extra runs down the order.

Hopefully Strauss can stick around for a while and help KP make a few before a certain Freddy Flintoff makes it to the crease.

This next session could be huge in this test, with rain a high possibility whoever makes the most of this session will be in the box seat - hopefully it's England who do so.

No, she didn't ask the boss. :disapprove:

Still it was good of her to think of it in the first place.

Lunch time in 15 minutes, means I can get home for the start of the session and catch about 45 minutes on the tv.

Indeed, the player of series will be one of these two, probably the one who gets the result they want, ie. if its a draw or a win to us then Freddy will be MOTS, otherwise it will be Warne.

319-7 isn't too bad but at the rate we started, we should have finished off on a higher score I feel.

If we can add another 100ish tomorrow then it's not a bad score for the Aussie's to chase, not sure how much we''ll miss Jones though.

I think Warne will go after the next Ashes, in Australia. He's bowling so well at the minute that it would be a huge loss for cricket if he were to go now.

Vaughan out to a stunning catch from Gilchrist off McGrath. He was looking brilliant as well, whilst Tresco looks very scratchy.

1) I think we can go up to 7pm, light permitting of course.
2)Of course they can do it but they will risk losing wickets which could hand it to us.
3)Nope

We are still ok at the moment i think.  Jones is capable of putting a good few on the total and some of the others are capable of haging around.

It's all about the runs per over rate really.  Just depends how many overs are left after we are bowled out really.  Either way i think we are in a pretty good position at present but of course, as we have seen in this series, that is always liable to change.

With 10 wickets in hand any total is pretty much chaseable. On the other hand going for the runs Australia are bound to lose wickets playing their shots.

We need to stay in for another 5 overs and make 250 then the Aussies would be left with a required run rate of over 6 an over.

Title: 5th Test
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, September 12, 2005, 14:17:28
You can now get 11-1 on Australia to win, that is pretty good isn't it considering if as Boeta says they still have a damn good chance.

As I'm part Australian I win either way, I want England to win though but I've put some money on the Aussies so it won't all be bad if we don't.

No fucking chance. Why would we possibly want to give Australia any chance. We want to keep them in the field all day, knacker them out mentally and physically. Don't give them a rest for the last hour and a half. We have to set the tone now for the next passage in world cricket - don't give Austalia anything.

Perhaps give them 10 overs in the end just to piss them off. That's it though.

Title: 5th Test

If we haven't been bowled out, we should declare at the point where they need to get a 6 off of pretty much every ball, lets say they need 30 an over. I don't think they'll quite manage it.

If Vaughan were to suggest declaring to Harmy, Hoggard and Freddie I'd know exactly what they'd say. It's two words, the second of which is 'off'.

Edit: Having said that, if/when we lose a wicket Hoggard and Harmison might not fancy facing the new ball and would rather be bowling with one.

I imagine we'll keep going until KP's out.

Yeah the rankings have their problems. I think that's because the way they do it, winning a qualification group in the American section is nearly as good as winning one in Europe 'cos they only compare the top 5 teams in each continent which is stupid really as Europe has far more strength in depth. USA aren't a bad team though.

England are certainly deserving of their top 10 place, probably should be higher really. Call them a bunch of prima donnas if you like but I'd love us to win the world cup
