Title: Vincent Pericard
Post by: singingiiiffy on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 12:27:01

yes he hasnt started a game yet BUT when he first joined he gave it the big one saying I will score 15 goals this season for swindon and thats what sticks in my head when i see him play. when cox came out with a similar big headed statement when he first joined everyone said who is this cocky lad and he had better do the walk with the talk. cox did. i dont think pericard will. he's had a few sniffs at goal but nothing more and he seems to do too much with the ball (and too slowly). even in the reserves he hasnt been shining.

iv noticed posts saying if paynter goes atleast we have pericard. id be worried about that.

will pericard come good is the question?

seconded by how many goals do you think he will get in the remainder of this season?

Never saw him say about 15 goals are you sure?  Cant judge him at all though as he's had the odd 10 minutes, once he gets a run he'll be fine, although that may not be until next season.

There were a lot of clubs at the top of League One and in the Championship who wanted me and it wasn’t a very easy decision for me to take. I haven’t come here to sit on the bench or otherwise I wouldn’t have come here, I’m looking to score 15 goals before the end of the season

15 goals before the end of the season could include the ones from Carlisle mind, how many did he get there?

All he is saying is he set himself a target of 15 goals,I dont really consider that as giving it the big one.

I'd hardly call that "giving it the big one"..

He's a decent player which we will see when he gets an extended run in the side. At the moment a good option to be able to bring on - if nothing else hopefully keeps the pressure on BP and CA to keep up their good work.

the quotes can be looked at in two ways. even if it included carlisle where he scored 8 (?) on current form 10 looks unlikley.i hope he proves me wrong and i was excited by the signing but i dont think he has lived up to all that.

Pericard gives us a different option everytime he has come on he has caused problems and caused the opposition worries.  He has not found the goals yet but I definitely feel a lot more confident with him coming on than I ever did with Hutchinson, Revell or Macklin.

i think once he scores his first goal, he'll be on fire.

i dont think he has lived up to all that.
Give the bloke a chance! Who would have thought that Billy and Charlie would carry on scoring a goal each every game after he signed? He hasn't had a chance to impress yet and is bound to take time to find his feet in the team when he only ever gets to come on for the last 15 minutes of games.

If I had to judge purely on what I've seen, he is pretty donkey like.

Its early days but he hasnt had the Rory Fallon 04 impact yet but there is still time.

I dont think for many reason, he will score more than 3 for us this season.

Title: Re: Vincent Pericard
Post by: Power to people on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 16:18:32
I thinkb given time and a run in the team he will do ok, we have seen flashes from him that he has it about it, but I think his game isn't all about scoring goals he is a big unit and able to put himself about and make space for others by pulling defenders around - he is a good weapon to be able to bring on when defenders are tiring

Title: Re: Vincent Pericard
Post by: walrus on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 16:40:05
He reminds me of Rory Fallon - signed as a back up and long-term replacement for Parkin, and he certainly came good.  I think Wilson is eyeing Pericard to step into the shoes of William Paynter if he moves on if we miss out on promotion...

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, 18:14:56
He hasn't played enough. He needs to start getting games a bit more often. The way Billy and Charlie are playing that's been impossible for him. I do think he could come good. He clearly isn't going to be a 20 goal a season striker but then again I said the same about Billy a few years back.

He needs to take his sub opportunities - if he comes on for twenty mins and sticks one in the net he'll get noticed.

In all fairness though, a couple of great blocks and some inspired goalkeeping is the only thing that has stood between him and his first goal!

Yeah I'd drop our strikers who are scoring loads of goals to.

I wouldn't drop either of them, I'd rest Charlie. Massive difference in my book. It's a squad game and Pericard is more than good enough to come in

Yeah I'd drop our strikers who are scoring loads of goals to.

I'm not saying I would, just that there is an argument for either of them to be dropped.

But then dropped is a bit strong. Its unlikely both of them will make it through to the end of the season and I'm sure a rest would be good for them. So why not pick a game for Pericard to play in, to give him some playing time and get up to speed whilst allowing our main strikers a rest.

I'm still concerned by the effect all the games they're playing will have on the backbone of our team. We'll need them to be at their best come the end of the season, especially for the playoffs.

look what a rest did for paynter's game...

There was very little wrong with Paynters game before he was 'rested'

Perhaps we may have even won more games if we hadnt of rested him?

Right now, there is NO argument for dropping either of them. We arent far enough ahead to have games in which we rest players.

There was, he was missing sitters!

Not that a "rest" would have sorted that out, more like being dropped and rebuilding his confidence a bit.

I was suprised we took Austin off for him.

I personally thought at 3-0 down we should have gone 4-3-3 second half and done a Port Vale.

I agree with both points and thought Pericard was poor again too. I though he had pace, but looks lie he doesn't. We could do with a pace by option.

Kuffour ripper Greer to pieces with his pace and movement and can finish, I'd hate to know how much vincent is being a paid. I couldnt quite figure the signing out at the time and nothing that he's done thus far has convinced me otherwiese

I agree with that. Should have gone 4-3-3 at half time.

Pericard wasn't great when he came on although the chances are he would have scored if Billy didn't get in his way towards the end.

Actually, at the time I would have taken the extremely poor Sheehan off and gone 3-4-3 but meh.

Austin was getting half chances and looked like he had an outside chance of scoring. Which was more than Big Vince.

Obviously you like him Sie...i am with the majority who think he should be doing more.
He is a big unit and he should be getting stuck in more...he never seems to be challenging for crosses into the box...he needs a scruffy goal to get going.
Shown glimpses of ability but for me i am still to be convinced he will turn out to be a good signing.

Fair point, he did look to cause their two big centre backs problems when he came om.
The other difference between today & the Franchise, was that he looked like he wanted to play.

I can cope with players having an off day, or even just not being that good, but it really annoys me when they just can't be arsed.   It's fair to say that no one fell into that category today.

Post by: Berniman on Saturday, March 20, 2010, 21:51:04
Those that think he is crap because he does not score will never like him.  Anyone that listened to Carlisle fans will know that he doesn't score many but hold up the ball and brings others in.  That is what he did today.  Not brilliantly all the time, but he did well with the time he had when you look at the stop start chances he has had since he has been here.

I think the over the top critisism and slagging off at the CG is a joke tbh, and I get the feeling that if Austin had not scored in his first couple of games the same would have happened with him.  Pericard is a big old unit and you are not going to see him chasing after every ball as Charlie does.  He will get on the end of balls and try to bring players in, he did that today even with Nelson and Doherty trying to rip the shirt off of his back every 5 minutes.

People need to lay off, we will need this man before the end of the season if we are to have a chance of going up.

pericard doesn't do anything paynter can't.(not that that makes him rubbish, as he aint)

nouble is quick, and even when his touch is heavy he scares the shit out of the defenders as today showed.that big fucker running with pace at teams will cause defences plenty of problems.unfortunate his debut was against the best side in the league.i'm confident he will destroy some teams during our run in.

268 minutes to be precise :p

pericard must have something about him given the clubs he's played for but his record isn't great, although it's not awful either. he's on an 18 month contract, so he's not going anywhere yet.

Nouble's first touch doesn't look good, haven't made my mind up yet. He seemed to run himself into danger today.

Still learning, I don't know much about youth/reserve prem footy, but I'm guessing he is used to having more time on the ball. Give him a game or two to adjust to the pace of the game then we'll see.

Today's performance: His touch wasn't best, and he could have passed earlier. But he looks awkward for defenders to play against. He won a few balls he lost back and looks quite mobile.

He was poor at Franchise, football or no football. Nothing will change that.

Thought he looked good today, he did the simple things well. Controlled it and spread the play. Norwich were much more worried about him than they were Nouble.

Partly down to Pericard and partly down to us finally having wingers.

It was Pericards presence that allowed us to keep the pressure up. He held the ball up, something we weren't doing well until he came on.

Nouble did well enough too and I think he'll be an asset in his time here. Like Coxy said, he'll need a couple of games to get used to the lack of time on the ball. Once he's there, I think he'll batter some defenders from pillar to post.
