He was a supporter of his one of the northern teams, I believe Huddersfield but I may be wrong. Anyway, he came to the CG with Jamie Callum’s dad.

He was a big supporter of Jamie’s work and played his music quite a lot on his radio show.

Ahhh, a big influential loss to design. Allegro gets the plaudits often but the TR7 was a thing of beauty for a late 70s motoring and daring design innovation. Complete with a psychedelia inspired spectrum of colours to choose from too. Much of those colours are used today on flashy cars like the vibrant yellow and apple green. The yellow TR7 ''remade'' famous again more recently on Detectorists
Bless him. I had an Allegro. The square steering wheel was revolutionary!🙂

How ironic that having interviewed virtually every screen legend of the 20th Century from John Wayne to James Cagney, the one that most people think of first is that bloody emu!!

My Dad had a 1700s in electric blue with a vinyl roof. Those were a brief fad weren't they. Never really understood the point of them but no model range in the 70s was complete without one with the roof covered in plastic. We're they supposed to suggest a soft top without being a convertible?

Thinking back, it was a 1500 Special. It had the black vinyl roof, 'quartic' (square) steering wheel and more of a Vanden Plas interior, which mahogany inserts on the dashboard and glove compartment. A bit like this, but with black seats and carpet:
