Title: Coventry Away
Post by: JayBox325 on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 13:27:03
Really looking forward to this one. After missing out on the last two trips there I'm hoping this one is as good as those were!

On another note, any Bathonian STFC fans wanting to make the trip? My regular away-day mate is busy and can't make it.

Doubt will be anywhere near the 3000+ we took a couple of years ago esp as now a Monday night and on TV.
Would have gone but Monday puts the mockers on that

I was gutted this got moved to a Monday night. We'd have taken loads again I'm sure. Sadly now that just won't be possible. As it happens I'm working down that way the next day, so I'll be going to the game and staying over.

I'll be going to this one, still think we should be looking for a decent away following, a good win at Fleetwood may just get a few more hundred up for this trip.

Live just outside of Coventry, so it's fucking annoying that this one was picked for television. I was hoping for a big following, especially since I've missed the last two...

I'm about 40 mins away in Staffordshire, I still think it will be a decent following. Should still take 1500+

It is a real shame. I'm tempted to go to this one alone as I'm sure I'll bump into someone to chat to on the night, but it would be good to make the trip with some other #STFC fans but don't really fancy SAS...

So "Now TV" is a cut down version of something called a Roku. It is a wifi only, 720p device that has a HDMI lead and can be bough for < £15 even from somewhere like Asda. You get different options when buying to Now TV box, the movie option (Sky movies "free" for 3?? months), the entertainment pack (free entertainment pass for 3??) months or the sports pack (2?? 24 hour passes).

So you need:
  - A wifi capable router with reasonable download speeds.
  - A HDMI capable TV.
  - A Now TV box (HDMI cable, remote and power adapter included)

What does it give you
   - Chargeable NowTV options
  - Free Catchup services i-player, itv player, 4od, c5 (BBC I-player is a bit clunky)
  - A sneaky unpublished way to run "Plex" client if you have the plex media server - if this makes no sense ignore

What do you get (if you pay for a NowTV pass)
  - Sports - live streaming of all Sky Sports channels for a limited time based on how much you pay (24 hrs/ 1week)
 - Movies - All live movie channels plus loads of "streamable" movies
 - Entertainment - google it, never looked as I have Sky entertainment on a proper box

Where is the catch
  - They take your credit card details when you create the mandatory NowTV account, so if you started the free trials of movies/entertainment - DON'T FORGET TO CANCEL
  - Its more expensive than a Sky subscription - £6.99 rrp for a 24 hour pass to all Sky sports channels, £10.99 for a week

Does it work
  - I've not had a problem in the 8 or so times I've used sports passes, a friend has where it cut out while he was watching
 - I can tell its not as good as watching through the HD STB, there are some very occasional slight microstutters where picture freezes very very momentarily, hardly noticable, but I have good broadband..

So What about this £3 deal
 - Carling offer free sports passes when buying a case of their piss water. People don't use them so sell them on ebay - a pass is just a code you enter into the nowtv account (via box or I think web). I've bought 6 or so from there without issue BUT
   - such passes are usually time limited, e.g. expire on 30/6/15
   - can't guarantee they will be doing such promotions forever, but so far so good.

Example NowTv sports box pack:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2484655.htm

Example Sky Sports daypass (not a recommendation, no idea why it says "enter code online only")

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Now-Tv-Carling-Sky-Sports-6-channels-24-hrs-pass-code-/161543431037?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Internet_TV_Media_Streamers&hash=item259cbd237d

And finally
------------
I have no idea if you can get the NowTV service on a laptop with HDMI out, and save yourself the cost of a NowTV box...this says you can (And PS3, XBOX 360, etc), but is HDMI disabled?:

http://help.nowtv.com/article/Supported-devices

I think 2 people can watch simultaneously on the same account - so if you can cadge a box off someone or can do it online through PC......4 devices per account, 2 people watching at same time according to this:

http://help.nowtv.com/article/Managing-Devices -

HTH.

Pub for this. It's also my moving day, so I would imagine I'll have no problem finding somewhere that's showing it. (Probably the Merlin).

It seems so, no idea how though..

http://help.nowtv.com/article/Movies-Entertainment-Sports-Apple-TV

sounds like NowTV is an appleTv app, and you'd need to register before you can use ebay codes.

I've watched NowTV through my AppleTV, through my PS3 and through my iMac. It was a bit too choppy through the PS3 for some reason, but perfect through the other 2. I have BT Infinity broadband.

Reading on their forum it seems they are planning some form of protest/boycott of the game.

That could work in our favour on the pitch if it upsets the players/staff.

London Reds are meeting here, If anyone is in town and wants liver damage...

Judging by responses on mail, there will be upwards of 15 maybe 20 there, with the added bonus the landlord is a town fan.

I realised that my Monday night league kicks off again on the 12th... so I will probably play in that then run off and catch the town game on TV.

It's so frustrating they've moved this game! Why not move one that I couldn't have made to start with... this is just selfish of them.

Make sure you warm down, don't want to pull anything in the suspected cold weather next week and miss kick off!

A point or 3 here, with no Mas and Yas will really stamp our authority. Must be 2m+ of talent not in the team, in fact Mas probably worth that on his own with that Oz performance. I think he will go regardless of League as we won't get close to matching weekly wages of most other Champ teams.
