Defeat as predicted. Shame we couldn't get a goal.  Sad

Hope for a win on tuesday to kick start the season.

As Ben said earlier, the squad needs a few games to gel.

We could have done with King organising some decent pre season games so they could have gelled in preseason but hey ho! Onwards and upwards!

33 mins against 10 men with 3 up frront and we couldn't score-that's worrying.

It is indeed and apparently we were just lumping hgh balls up to Thorpe and Cureton, i fucking hate it when we feel the need to play the long ball game instead of knocking it about and getting the crosse's in from out wide.

What worries me is  Ricky Shakes, Gareth Whalley, Michael Pook and Steve Jenkins in the midfield . Whalley not seen play but sounds quality, Shakes could be good given time, same with Pook and Jenks is a defender.

I think King already know this, but we need a strong, ball winning, experienced midfielder. Migs is another good option of a different type if fit.

Especially as an Oompa Loompa is bigger than Cureton!

Crosses into the box will not be the way to work this season. With shorter strikers it will be essential to get the ball on the deck and maybe use Migs and Whalley as playmakers to play the strikers into good positions.

That wasn't how it worked today and our few chances seemed to come when the ball was played to feet.

What should worry you more is that Barnsley with 10 men ran rings round our defence.

They should never have got the ball back but somehow Ifil was given the role of ball distributor from the back and he continued to give it away 9 times out of ten, as he had done all game

King should tell him never to pass the ball more than 10 metres left or right. He should also tell the others never to give Ifil the ball. We'll have a chance then.

It's going to be a lonnnnnggggg season. Crying

I hate Swindon fans sometimes, I really do.

ITS ONE GAME. FFS. GIVE THEM TIME.
It's not all doom and gloom, from everything I've heard we weren't bad at all. Not good either but hey at least we aint bad.

we were pretty poor/average. the main thing that worried me was the constant long balls to the midgets up front. We need to get the ball on the floor and play it about abit.

Still its the first game and we never win first game so roll on tuesday. I can see some positive things but it will take a bit of time for them all to get used to each other.

On the plus side about half the townend were in the mega bowl before the match! We even found Dave M when we got in the ground!  Cool

King said in the radio interview after the match that he tells them on the training ground not to do long balls and they practise passing etc, yet when the match comes they do the long ball sometimes, and as he said there's not a lot in the game he can do about that.

First game, we weren't brilliant, but Barnsley weren't that much better. If only Cureton's penalty went in. And Ifil has got to start cutting out the mistakes soon, there's just too many.
