Game over, it seems. Shame really, I don't like it when games like this are a bit of a no-contest.

Was gutted when Gibbs slipped. I don't care who wins, but it's ruined what could have been an entertaining game. Fair play to United though, they're in control.

That'll probably get overturned, he got the ball. Although the fact the commentator's going on about getting it overturned for 'mistaken identity' makes me hate itv even more

It's karma for Ronaldo's dive to win the free kick.

Exactly.

Ref was shite, gave it all uniteds way first half then felt sorry for arsenal and gave it all their way in the second.

Defo penalty....you cannot snick a ball with your studs and then wrap your legs around the forward.

Fletcher should of let the twat score!

Nice big toe punt for United's second goal.

That kind of strike harks back to a previous era where English teams dominated the competition, so no surprise that as is being used again, we find ourselves once again are pulling down pants across the continent.

Another trophyless season for Arsenal and the overrated Wenger.

My other half had money on Park to score first and United to win 3-1.

UEFA will only overturn a red card in the Chumps League for mistaken identity - prick your ears up!

I thought the same - looked like a penalty as he went through the player (even though he got the ball first), but the red card was very harsh. Don't know what he was thinking going for the tackle anyway, pretty stupid when you're that far ahead with not long to go.

Lots of Barca fans milling about Piccadilly this lunchtime.  Sadly, I think they will be heading home disappointed.  Expect Chelsea will win tonight and then lose to Man U in the final.

Title: Re: Chumpions league

Since the CL was started, the only times Barca have beaten Chelski, is when Chelski have had a player sent off.

I think Chelski will win, and  wouldn't be surprised if Barca fail to score again, as they did the same again Man Yoo last season in the semi, where they passed the ball around for fun, and in the end had no end product.

If plan A fails...revert to plan A !!!

Barca look class, Chelsea look slow.
Chelsea 1 up, one definite penalty not given and possibly another as well, seen them given.
Funny old game, they could be 3 up and being played off the park.

Tappy tappy pretty football is only any good if you create chances. And I don't recall Chech making a save.

Post by: Batch on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 20:43:32
To be fair, Chelsea could have had 3 or 4 pens from a different ref. Seem them given, seen 'em not.

Nice to see the Chelsea players taking it well though. Apparently it's a "fucking disgrace" according to Dogba :)

Man U v Barca is a more exciting final. Odds against United - nobody has retained the title.

Title: Re: Chumpions league
Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 20:46:15
what are you saying about norway?

I'm defending Norway - Gray was suggesting (not for the first time) that fixtures such as the European Cup Semi-Final has to be officiated by Germans, French, Italians because they experience bigger games etc which is ridiculous.

Whinging of the highest order.

Title: Re: Chumpions league
Post by: Batch on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 20:47:32
what happened?

They had a quiet word with the ref after the game over some disputed penalty claims.

Commentators are blaming the ref for being Norwegian again. Seems fair enough. A Swede would never have made the mistakes his inferior neighbour did.

Now Redknapp's at it as well.

It's stupid and patronising. Football is football - For example IFK Göteborg vs. Örgryte IS is just as big a game to Swedish fans than Liverpool vs. Manchester United.

having seen the standard of norwegian football, they may have a point.

It's not just the Scands he's targeted - basically if it's not covered by SkySports it's not big enough.

The funny thing was that when it happened live they had the camera on him but the volume turned down. Then about 10 minutes later they showed a replay of it and the volume was turned down again, until just before he said "fucking disgrace" when they turned the volume up. I can't help but wonder if someone did it deliberately.

I was pretty appalled at the Sky commentators as well. The bloke that interviewed Hiddink was blatantly trying to lead him in to saying something bad about the ref and the decisions, fair play to Hiddink as he refused to and acted perfectly. Jamie Rednapp was shocking, saying all Norwegians are shit referee's - I wonder how many Norwegian football matches he's seen in his life?

Then they pretty much claimed there was a conspiracy at UEFA to keep Chelsea out of the final.

When this kind of shit happens we all go on about the ref's and the players but I think its about time the TV commentators started getting some flak for their continual shit stirring and outrageous comments. If we're going to hold players and refs to account, why not the TV companies and their commentators that cover the games?

Title: Re: Chumpions league
Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 22:46:39
Sky Sports punditry has annoyed me for some while, I don't really pay attention to it. - I really hope Richard Keys is forced to say what waffles on about.

They need a scoop so Sky Sports sensationalise everything™ (Rupert Murdoch) - the fact they repeated Drogba's little tirade proves this - live directors/editors know what they're doing and that was deliberate.

The whole referee nationality argument baffles me as I've already mentioned.
