Title: Wimbledon 2023
Post by: Qunk on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, 17:14:15
Good win for Murray. I’d like to see the old boy get through the next couple of rounds.

This Alcaraz looks different class. I’ve not quite seen enough of him yet to decide if he’s going to have the same impact as Federer, but he seems to have the same outlandish natural talent. Federer made it seem effortless. So does this lad.

Would have thought Murray may struggle in the next round to be honest

Alcaraz doesn't have a Nadal or (peak) Djokovic to go up against. unless the likes of Rune, Ruud and Sinner can step up a level he could dominate for a good few years. Already world number 1 with a slam under his belt and he's only 20.

Missed Liam Broady beating Casper Ruud, that's some scalp.

Murray doing well so far. Have to feel a bit for Tsitsipas. You're fifth seed you don't expect to play 2 grand slam winners in the first 2 rounds!

It was unbelievable to see 2 players of the calibre of Thiem and Tsitsipas drawn against one another in R1. And it took Tsitsipas a 5th set tiebreak to emerge victorious.

Andy Murray now 2-1 up though, so not all bad perhaps?

Really enjoying this match so far, both players playing very well. Tsitsipas did have a rotten draw to be fair...

Why are the interviews still done so far apart. Can’t be Covid still surely.

Titty beats Mint boy. I think what is amazing is that despite hip replacement, he's still going toe to toe with some of the best.

Norrie also out against the formidable and aptly named Chris Eubanks - maybe not quite as eccentric.

Broady currently 5 - 5 in the third set with a chance to go through to the Round of Sixteen. Not too shabby. Has earned somewhat a favourable draw after beating Ruud. Probably the pick of the Brits, Not bad for a lad from Stockport and a WC too boot.

Edit: just got broke again to be 5 - 6 down in the third v Sharapova - she's not as fit as I remember her

Naa just better microphones so they don't have to and apparently Tim Henman has really bad breath.

Time for Murray to retire. Playing tennis mostly seems like a chore for him now.

If he does retire after this, he goes down as the single greatest British sportsman, in my book. What he achieved, 2 Wimbledons, a US, a tonne of Masters, world number one etc, in an era where he was up against Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, is outstanding. He’s an inspiration

And let's not forget as a kid he was there when the Dunblane tragedy happened. That's a fucking big thing to happen to you as a kid. You wonder how mentally that drove him on.

I think he personally feels like he's on his way back though. Since surgery this has been a much improved year so far. I think we'll see him do at least another year at Grand Slam level - maybe two more years. Then I think he'll call it a day.

Just a hunch but I think he still feels like he has something to prove in terms of his comeback. Time catches up with us all but even just coming back to play professionally and competing is an inspiration to many.

Re "dumb ass" comments by after match interviewers, Annabel Croft to Rybakina "it's never easy to play a Brit on centre court". I'd have been so tempted to say "well,actually...."

I’m sure it was the hardest match she only lost two games in of her life.

Mirra Andreeva, SIXTEEN YEARS OLD, into the last 16. That is ridiculous. Fair play

This is the weirdest match I've seen. The bloke playing Djokovic can regularly smash the ball into a little box at 140 mph but just as regularly puts simple shots into the net. Bizarre
