What's your operating system? If it's XP I know I used to have a problem with the same thing and it was solved by unchecking a check box in the settings somewhere. I'll turn my pc on and have a quick look.

Probably wireless interference.

Download a program called inSSIDer and check for other wireless networks in your area. You should change the channel on your router so that it's at least two away from any other channel in use.

The setting I found that caused the problem for me was actually over an unautheticated network on pre service pack 1 (I think) and would likely be no longer applicable. (I couldn't find it, but believe it had something to do with network authentication.)

Samdy's suggestion is a proper one.

Samdy's is a good one

Also make sure the encryption is compatible between router and lappie as you might find the connection dropping should the router be set to WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK and lappie is only WPA compatible. Check for updated drivers for wireless card in lappie
