Title: Swindon Town vs Stockport Match Day Thread
Post by: axs on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 09:01:11
someone had to start it.

First game I've missed this season and I don't fancy our chances.

They only drew at home in midweek though and have to win there. I reckon a draw today. 1-1.

That won't be easy, don't fancy anything today, millwall at home should be 3 points on a good day, 'pool away will be tricky and then it's all down to udders.

In my opinion the Hereford JPT game is more important than any of the next 3 league games. Because with this defence we have a very very slim chance of getting in the play offs, but we might be able to go all the way in the JPT.

So il be sticking with Malpas as long as we are in that. If we get knocked out to Hereford then I cant see what good the season can hold for us. We are win some loose some, waste of time.

the game hasnt even started and we're already talking about sacking Malpas.

I think we'll draw today. I also think we'll do better away from home this season when we're not playing infront of our retarded fans who boo if we're not winning....

We haven't had a good result at Stockport in recent years. The last two matches there have been embarrassing, losing a 3 goal lead to end in a draw, and losing 3-0 last time.

The team needed a kick up the ass and MM has done that, lets face it...Ifil is lacking in morale after last week and Macca cant play away from home, makes sense.

I can see us playing a 4-3-1-2 with JPM given a free roaming role just behind the front 2 with no wide men, playing very narrow through the middle.

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Stockport Match Day Thread
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 13:23:36
Pleased Corr is on the bench. MM has been brave with putting Morrison and Timlin in to replace Ifil and Macca. Not sure about JPM though. Also no Marshall?

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Stockport Match Day Thread
Post by: michael on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 13:24:22
No point having Marshall on the bench when Macca is already on there?

Title: Re: Swindon Town vs Stockport Match Day Thread
Post by: Nemo on Saturday, September 20, 2008, 13:26:13
Bit harsh on Marshall that he plays well from the bench and gets dropped from it to accomodate somebody who hasn't turned up away from home this season, but never mind. Interesting selection at least, although doesn't do much to alter my suspicions of a 0-0.

I guess if Aljofree actually gets injured then Casal will go in at Centre Half.....or at a push he could put Peacock there.

I'm not that surprised.  One horror show doesn't turn Smith in to a bad keeper.  I quite respect Malpas, actually, for giving the guy a chance today.  Obviously, he'll be on a warning though.

Trouble is where do you aim for? Once the players have finished doing their dancing queen routine on the penalty spot you have no idea where they're going to be.

You can't blame the captain for standing up for the youngster.   Neither should get involved in the first place, though if our "fans" are being cocks I don't really blame them.

Not near a radio right now:

I am staggard Ifil is out the squad. Is there an Injury?.
Does 1-0 sound a fair reflection.

"Goal by Craig Easton (Swindon) right-footed (bottom-left of goal) from right channel (25 yards).Stockport 1-1 Swindon. Assist (pass) by Jack Smith (Swindon) from left channel."

When the manatee thing first started it got on a lot of people's nerves. But it does prove a point, it gets tiresome reading about manatees but it also gets tiresome posting the same thing 100 times about something with very little intellectual input.

Of course I'm talking about the days when people were calling for the Board to to step down because they ran out of ketchup for their burger.

Just got back.

In reply to arirba's post earlier, that bloke would've got a slap from me if he didn't have loads of police around him after 'reporting' Aljofree. Fucking joke. The guy shouts out at Aljofree saying "you're fucking rubbish" and then goes running to the police when Aljofree turns back and calls him a "fucking prick". There weren't half some mongs there today. Some bloke asking for Malpas to change it and bring someone else on when we were one-nil down after 20 minutes.

And to top it all off, some bloke and his kid turned up with "Malpas Out" painted on their faces. Some of our fans are a fucking joke and I wonder why the hell they bother driving all the way to Stockport just to have a go at the players and other fans.

As for the game, I thought it was a good battling away performance. Nobody reall put a foot wrong:

P Smith - Didn't have a lot to do, a good save in the first half. Faultless for the goal, didn't see it until it'd come through a body of players.
J Smith - Solid game but gave away some silly fouls.
Aljofree - Didn't put a foot wrong all game IMO and won some good tackles and headers.
Morrison - Steady game, looked a bit nervous but no big mistakes.
Amankwaah - My MOTM, was superb. Defended well and got forward even better.
Timlin - Had on ok game. Some good passes but a but ineffective on the left and drifted inside a lot.
Easton - Quite quiet I thought but popped up for the goal.
Nalis - What a fucking find this guy is, has a great footballing brain and can pick a pass with ease. Close to Amankwaah for MOTM.
McGovern - Some nice touches and showed a bit of skill, did well cutting in from the right instead of staying wide.
Paynter/Cox - Both had a less than average game I thought. I can understand why Paynter was subbed so early because he really didn't have much influence on the game.

Notable efforts:
Corr - Looked sharp but wasted a good opportunity by shooting from 35+ yards when he could've rolled Peacock in at the end.

And to top it all off, some bloke and his kid turned up with "Malpas Out" painted on their faces.

Ive got no problem with anyone shouting Aljofree you are shit, but surely if you give it out you take it back?

As for Malpas Out facepaint, call social services now. It will probably take SBC 4 years to do anything about it anyway, so the call needs to go in immediately.

To be fair to Corr, Peacock had chances laid on a plate to him at Aldershot and missed them both, so I dont blame him one bit. Great to hear hes back.

Good to hear Amankwaah is improving, I thought the same at Hereford. But still think Nalis is real deal captain material. Malpas seems unable to drop Aljofree as captain, so to be honest I hope Malpas gets an excuse to drop him as captain.

When I first saw him I shouted "Oi, facepaint!". He looked at me expecting to get a thumbs up or something, but I called him a cock instead. He then put his hat on (to cover up some of the writing) and kept it on for the rest of the game.

These people do it because they don't expect the player to react... and when they do they always look stupid and go running to the authorities... what a hardman Mr. Fan.

Aljofree's professionalism is questionable here but this is the 3rd tier and people are expecting perfection and not getting behind their own players as a result of it.

Ive got to say, Aljofree is a strange character. In the papers he has repeatedly over inflated his own career, and the fact that he apparently played in the world class league that is "the championship". He is petulant, aloof and arrogant and puts himself well before his team mates. It sticks in my throat that he is our captain. He literrally is not fit to clean dog shit off Shaun Taylors boots, I would pay to do that myself.

If I was moved enough to pubicly and personally slate one of our own players I would make sure I had something to back it up.

Running to the police. What a fucking prick.

Good performance, good game, good point. Good day in fact. Apart from the huge scary northerner who seemed to fucking hate his daughter. She was ginger though.

The Aljofree incident at McDons was a few groans that turned into a few shouts of frustration. Nothing really.

The HT booing was well dissapointing though.

Just got home and well that was a bit shit really. On the face of it a draw sounds a good result but they were awful today and there for the taking, i mean their keeper looked shakey as anything. Malpas' tactics were mind boggling. Why he waited until 5 seconds before full time to bring on Macca I do not know. Our lack of width today was so frustrating it was driving me mad.
Kicking Ifil out of the 16 suggests Ifil's been made the scapegoat I remember how well that worked when King was in charge. Team spirit seems at rock bottom with the players constantly bickering with eachother I'm expecting a fight between our own players soon.

As for the Aljofree incident some of our fans need to grow up but then so does he, I mean Aljofree offered the bloke a fight outside the ground after the match.........hardly the behaviour of our club captain. Probably best for him and us that he leave tbh. I disagree Sam he was not too good again today anyway kept commiting himself needlessly and got another stupid booking taking someone out on the halfway line and did exactly the same second half and was lucky not to get a second yellow.

I've given up on MM now time for a change at the top I feel Malpas just isn't doing it. It's a vote of no confidence in him from me and there were many other disillusioned fans on the train home. That was the flattest I've seen our fans for years there was no songs sang all game and everyone was there expecting to lose.  The MM experiment has failed and it's time to look at other options.

A couple of points about the Aljorfree incident today.

Aljorfree was injured just before Stockport won a corner. Trainer ran round the outside of the pitch and the ref was happy for Aljorfree to be treated, but this would mean he would have to come off the pitch, thereby missing the corner. Instead he limped across the area to take up his position only for some total fuckwitted cunt to slag him off (He hadn't done anything wrong all game) No wonder he lost it.

I too don't think he's the best choice for captain, but he is not a shit defender, so why is he getting all this stick? Scape goat time again............

And as for the twats in front of us during the first half, all I can say is I'm glad they never came back after half time.

I swear some people left the game disappointed we didn't lose as they couldn't slate Malpas further.

Good away point and more importantly a good team performance.

One more point, people are right when they say they're entitled to an opinion, so am I and my opinion of the moaning cunts that get on the teams back from the first whistle is that they should fuck off.

Bollocks. A lot of twats have been waiting for any excuse to get rid of Malpas, the bloke's on a hiding to nothing because of some of our more mongish fans.

To say today was disapointing is also wrong, imo. What do you expect? We're a league 1 side.

The midfield worked well today, without Mcnamee who hasn't had a decent away game all season.
The two up front worked their nuts off and the defence looked more of a unit than it has recently. Ifil was dropped because he was fucking shocking last week. Why can't he be dropped for a performance? We scream for Malpas to make changes, then moan when he does. Fucking pathetic.

It does seem Malpas can do nothing right.

I obviously didnt go to the game but would have certainly taken an away draw at Stockport. Im glad McNamee was dropped because hes only had one good game in the league this season and offers nothing defensivly. Yet is a crowd favourite yet more steady performancer isnt

People wanted Malpas to make changes and he did. Aljofree has certained turned into the new scape goat. I really dont think he is half as bad as some people make out. Sure hes not the perfect centre half but we dont exactly have a huge list of brilliant centre halves lined up for a starting role.

He probably does want to leave because our fans have got it him for him because he isnt perfect and makes mistakes, shock horror. He's a lower league footballer!

A large amount of the moaning about Malpas, certainly on the adver site, has been pretty personal -mainly about Malpas being dour and not inspiring in interviews.  People I know who have chatted with him tell a different story.  And anyway frankly who was the last charismatic manager we had?  Glenn 'well er' hoddle? Andy 'refer to myself in the third person like a deluded boxer' King?

So do I. Like you said he cant do anything right for some people. Whisper it if you want, but hes always been dealt a difficult hand by Fitton, not allowed any of his own backroom staff. He must have been undermined by Byrne and Williams who have taken the team before him, it must have been awkward. Its still a tiny coaching team.

As for Ling, of course not. The nostalgia would have carried him through. But Ling wouldnt agree to work without any of his own backroom staff, he wouldnt have put himself in that situation, even for Swindon Town.

Neither would any established manager.

Its a harsh lesson for Fitton. Football isnt like anything else.

We are rudderless Herthab. If want to persist with the way things are and cruise to another 15th place, you watch the away attendances and home dwindle. We'll end up like Crewe!

Not sure Malpas would have had 'his own backroom staff' in the way Sturrock did though, I don't think he really had long enough at Dundee Utd to get a staff together, whereas Sturrock carries Blackley and the other chap around with him from club to club.

I don't like the dropping Ifil from the squad though. His confidence is already shot.

I know the Ferguson comparisons drive people mad (he was 3 time SPD Champion and had beaten Real Madrid in CWC before taking over Man Yoo). But things really did just turn on a sixpence for him with Mark Robins goal at Nottingham Forest FA Cup.

Maybe someone can do that for us in the JPT and we wont look back?

Micheal, Sturrock had Byrne and Williams as well as his own staff remmember? And a decent goalkeeping coach.

We played ok today but we were not great, i was bemused that peacock came on for cox, also i thought mcnamee should have come on for at least the last 20 minutes as we could have really gone for the win but bringing him on seconds from the end? what's the point?

The thing about Ifil is that he is not the kind of player that can just shrug of a howler because he is a confidence player.

My train of thought is that he has not been 'dropped' per say, but he has been pulled out of the limelight so that he can concentrate on training and stuff to get his head right again.

Don't get me wrong that I am defending Ifil to much because he is experienced enough to deal with it himself, but he just ain;t that kind of player/person. Hence the reason he is playing in the 3rd tier.

It irritates me that Ifil has to be wrapped in cotton wool but if that is what it takes to get him to his brilliant best then so be it.

Batch I'll disagree with you even if it is wine induced. Aljofree is worse than most people make out. The only time he does open his mouth is to slag off his team mates or the ref. He is in no way a captain or a leader. Despite Malaps talking about no scaprgoats Ifill looks to fit the bill. I think they were both culpable against Leeds. Its almost like he's untouchable. It looksl ike its building up to a Gurney at 'nam incident which is the most toxic I've seen between fans / players.

Hertha - I'm also a mong. I will support my team for 90 minutes. I won't slag the players or manager for the 90 minutes but for God's sake nobody at STFC should be above criticism. I've given Malaps a chance as I have others but he's got to go. Some people will be quicker off the mark than others and others will be more vociferous. I don't accept that our fans are cunts - they are pussy cats compared to most - eg Slave Traders which is why the slimy Greek Cypriot cunt got away with things for so long.

In the long run the "mong" with his face painted is probably right but is a pratt.

Another thing I do like about Malpas was that he slated our attitude towards the cups.

Totally agree, though haven't always subscribed to this opinion.

Look at the list of JPT winners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_League_Trophy#Past_Finals) and for the most part you have teams who gain promotion within a few seasons. A good side wins that trophy, which is why we should want to be competitive in it.

If you read my posts Chalkie, you'll see that from your post above I don't think you're a mong!

Our fans were so quiet today, there was no atmosphere, the thing i don't like with malpas is his tactics and questionable substitutions, if he had gone for it we could have won the game, i thought cox done well and was a bit surprised when he went off, peacock done nothing when he came on, he shouldn't have taken cox off but he should have least put mcnamee on and not peacock.

The problem is going for it and getting caught on the break. Away from home the most important thing is not to lose.

Weve done well. Im almost glad its been at home weve made mistakes this season.

Because last season there was nothing away from home, and it seemed like Fitton just brushed it off with his statement about the mentality of our fans.

He had a point, but it was a harsh thing to say. Was pretty miserable on the road after Walsall last season.

I'm a wine induced mong who didn't read your posts properly. Aljofree is still a cunt though as is JPM . MM is not a cunt , just not good enough for STFC. Mong, mong, mong , mong, mong. Repaeat ad infinitum until i fall asleep at the keyboard. Note to self - wake up, make bacon butty, talk to wife and kids, go back to sleeep. Go past Sunday - remeber to go to London on Monday to be patronised by a bunch of Cockney cunts after paying over £100 for the priviledge. Tomorrow morning is not going to be good.

For me a very good result(that i predicted incidently)..Stockport were on fire,we won at MK who mullered Colchester.Ime glad i wasnt there to be honest,i wouldnt have liked to be in that kind of atmosphere, some of our fans think they have a divine rite to act like idiots.
Ime not a great lover of Leeds yet they applauded ther team of the pitch 3 weeks ago after a weak performance at Yeovil and a 1-1 draw.

i was driving through manc around kick-off time yesterday so put on bbc radio manchester - their reports was quite complimentary of us and malpas who had "done his homework very well"...they hardly had a sniff until the goal from what i could gather.

dropping macca was a big decision but considering he does absolutely nothing away from home, probably a worthwhile gamble.

i'll take a point away at a team doing well who we have a horrible record against.

24 teams in the league want to mout a promotion challenge, doesnt mean they are good enough and it will happen.

Thats fine dv i can accept that. Now why are we not good enough in your opinion

We're inconsistent. Ifil is the prime example, he was utter gash last week but we've all seen him have games where you could mistake him for Rio Ferdinand.

We've seen Brez look Premiership class and non-league!! McNamee looked like the best player in the league opening day other games he hasnt even touched the ball

Even your typical steady eddies like Easton have had bad games.

I put this down to the players and the manager. Apart from Paynter and Cox ALL of our players have had good and bad games this season. A couple of good results and some installed confidence and hopefully the mistakes will become less frequent and we'll look stronger.

Its clear we lack a leader in general, not just in defence. Whilst I think Aljofree is a capable CB at this level I am now convinced he isnt a captain.

We need someone in the team with a bit of presence about them, someone who will lead by example and someone who will try and take the game by the scruff of the neck when its needed.

We could do with one of those in CB and CM. Maybe Nalis could do the job but im not so sure.

I think a leader will help us improve and I think some results and confidence will stop some of the errors.

Additional to that, we just dont have the same quality other teams do. Just look at Leeds, they had players sitting on the bench who would have no problem getting into most teams in this league. Prutton and Howson would get in our midfield no problem.

We should and can do better with what we have got but if we wanted to have a serious automatic promotion challenge then we'd need to bring in more quality, spend some money and pay bigger wages.

Aljofree is not a captain he is too quiet and does nothing to motivate his team from what I can see, Nalis would be an obvious choice to me the players seem to respect his rants only trouble is it is his first season and he's not Swindon through and through. Peacock maybe but he cant guarantee a place - I have no problem with players like Paynter I think it would inspire him (I was so wrong about this guy), if not a forward go for a player who has never let us down and gives 100% Jack Smith.
Aljofree no way.

Just watched the highlights, from those it seems like we should have won it, Timlin and Paynter missing good chances.

For what its worth as someone who saw them on saturday for the 1st time this season, we play some really nice football but seem to lack cutting edge, the ball is pinged from right to left through the midfield, but then reaches the edge of their area and ultimately ends up back with our centre half - its just that breaking midfielder we seemed to lack?

At the back especially in the first half we seemd to totally lack confidence, Jack Smith especially seemed terrified of giving the ball away and then played simple passes which he ballsed up! Amankwaah looked pretty poor and one dimensional in the first half, however he was a marauding football god in the second half and terrified them.

Less said about the little argument with the skipper, although I had forgotten what utter crap some of our supporters come out with. The whole shouting about Malpas being an idot and taking Cox  off..... he was so obviously knackered as were most of the playerss on both sides - I think the heat really surprised them!

Oh and much as I admire Lee Peacock, less said about his cameo the better.

I can't even remember if he touched the ball.

He had about 5 touches, none of which went to one of our players!!

It was quite funny though, as when we walked into the ground he was stood at the edge of the pitch leaning over the hoardings just chatting to a few supporters. I was with about 10 mates (it was my stag do in Manchester - I made them come to the match) who all tend to either hate football or support premier teams, they honest didn't believe me when I said he was an actual first team player just having a chat - shows the gulf between D3 and 1st div.

Didn't do that, they do my head in.

Watched the town, who kindly avoided totally depressing me, went and had a bite to eat then out and about round Didsbury into a club and back to hotel for about 4.30am... which was great! The fact that flights into manchester (hotel right under flightpath) started at about 6ish was less great!
