Title: Official Crewe Alex Match Day Thread
Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, December 23, 2017, 10:51:36
According to the BBC website we've got a game today   I always think that how early or late a match day thread is started is a pretty good gauge as to how people are feeling in general about the Club at an given point in time. 10 to 11 on a Saturday morning - I think we can draw our own conclusions from that.

So far this season my MDT starting has brought two wins and a postponement, so let's hope the run continues (without the postponement)

I will say...

2-0 Mullin, Woolery

Pre match Staffies and tracky bottoms in The Gaffers Row.

This is it then. The big one. "El Locomotivo".

GJR / LNWR v GWR
20,000 workers v 14,000 workers
Joseph Locke v Daniel Gooch
12 platforms v 4 platforms
The "Lizzies" v The King George V

Bragging rights at the far ends of station platforms all over the country at stake today.

No defending set piece fuck ups today and we stand a chance.

The Strop Hoof satellite was launched here by Jack Stephens in early 2015.
Sadly it's decaying orbit since then has been reflected in the progress of the club.

Merry Christmas.

As usual, WB's pre-match post will almost certainly be the most entertaining/enjoyable part of match day.

I can't listen on the radio from where I live. Julie won't let me listen anymore. I don't have the time to sit down and watch a whole game and my role as PDC and subsequent manager translator/summariser has faded into a dim and distant memory. There's very little info on the club in the free media.

Is the game at home? Potential loss
Is the game away? Potential draw or win.

Wonder what the equivalent for El Loco Swindon fans who have reached the end of the road is.

Guiseley away on a Tuesday night maybe.

Hope this thread is a bit more upbeat come 5 o'clock.

2-1 defeat. Couldn't find the energy/desire to head upto Crewe today which is a shame.

1 win in our last 7 visits there.

They are on a run of 1 win in a row at home ;)

With all our injuries and poor form lately I can't see past a defeat I am afraid.

Strong team
Good to see Taylor back at LB and Iandolo on the bench, no matter how hard he works hes not a left back.

Just wish we had a little more attacking & creative options in midfield than Dunne and Linganzi.

There seems to be massive holes in our defence down the right side which they are exploiting at every opportunity.

Their right side or ours?
Ours, Purkiss seems to be playing too far up the pitch.

We scored with pretty much our first attack, great run from Mullin, pass to Norris finds Anderson on the left his shot is saved but Woolery bundles the ball in from 1 yard out.

Against the run of play.

On the video player there are promisingly 3 options for audio - ‘English’, ‘Home’ and ‘Away’.
Annoyingly they’re  all just the raw match audio feed with no commentary.

Norris, Woolery, Anderson and Mullin are playing as a unit with strength and pace, Linganzi winning almost everything in the middle and getting forward all the time too.

Taylor looking much more settled at LB his corners and free kicks have been back to his best again.

When we hoof it their defence is lapping it up but when we play it on the deck we look like we could thrash anyone.

Norris good run and woeful shot from 20 yards out of the ground, should have done better.

Title: Re: Official Crewe Alex Match Day Thread

We rarely looked under much pressure at the back, they kept trying to exploit the gap between Purkiss and Lancashire with long hoofed up balls but we coped with everything thrown at us.

When we hoof it we looked poor but with the ball on the deck with Norris, Anderson, Mullin and Woolery running at them they looked scared of us.

Linganzi my MOM so far but they have all played well really, Taylors corners and free kicks have been good again after 4 or 5 games of being poor.

Dunne still isn't impressing me though and looks the weak link today for me.

Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, December 23, 2017, 16:09:19
OMG Woolery great run hits the post and Norris hits the rebound wide with a gaping goal in front of him from 12 yards!

Woolerys running with the ball with pace has been brilliant today, he deserves another goal.

In a sense nothing has changed... we know we're decent on the road poor at the CG. Crewe are probably just the sort of thing needed atm as according to Flitters they still play the Crewe way... Luke style stuff.

Boxing Day will be interesting... Luton hot favourites, but can a decent crowd and a bit of atmosphere lift our boys, not something they'll have experienced at the CG?

Regardless of how negative / indifferent a spin you want to put on it, there can be little doubt that a convincing away win, and clean sheet, on the back of 5 straight defeats, with 8 conceded in the 2 away ones, is of some significance. Sorry to disappoint.

It was very comfortable and professional. Woolery has grown in physique and confidence, and is now a real threat. Vigs grew into the game and did well - fair play to him. The midfield stepped up, and we can't sniff at the ratio of goals that Linganzi is giving us.

4 points off 3rd, with a game in hand. Lots to play for.

I wish he would look up sometimes to see if a quick throw could set up an attack, instead of going down on his knees and elbows every time he catches the ball.

Had a feeling we’d win today, although didn’t expect to be 3 up within 25 minutes.

Hopefully we can take the momentum into the next 2 games.  If we don’t get something out of them, today means very little.  The fact we’re 3 points off 4th place says it all about how poor this division is.  Have to wonder why Norris and Woolery haven’t been played together since right at the start of the season?

Hole in the wall.

Bit difficult to read how many we might get... as it's only the 2nd Boxing Day game in 11 years.  The last one v Gills a couple of seasons back, had a crowd of 9000+ of which about 400 were Pikeys, not bad for them, but it was their cup final.

Then we were doing OK under Lingy, and had a bit of form, Gills were flying. Given our wretched home form, + Luton's greater numbers, a similar sized crowd should be possible.

I'd imagine we'll take a good few to Barnet.... new ground.  Recall a game a while back at Underhill, where there were more Town fans than Barnet.  Still lost mind  :)

Was that the cup game where it went to a shoot out and we didn’t get a single penalty on target?

That's the one, we lost 1-0. The crowd was about 2600 with 1400 Town fans.

It looked a shocker at the time but the ref gave a corner so think defender got a boot on it. Should have finished it though.

We didn't lose, though. Hopefully it marks a genuine turn around and not just a false dawn.

Hello 17/18, this is 16/17 calling ....
