Apparently she's been offered police protection after a number of death threats were made against her.  A bit extreme, but serves her right to be feeling frightened like the poor cat did.

Another idea would be to stick her in a wheelie bin for 16 hours and see how she likes it.

Just out of interest what would you expect the owner to do?  Not being funny, genuinely interested.  As a cat owner myself, I know the lady next door doesn't like the cat crapping in her garden (which is fair enough, as I don't like him crapping in mine), but not sure how I could stop him.
