I've only broken my thumb, but I couldn't play sports for 4 weeks, just because it hurt when I ran around and the risk of fucking it up more was too much to take.
Also wanking is impossible and your other, less co-ordinated hand just can't cope. It's one of the worst things that can happen to a 14 year old boy I tell thee. Yes i broke my thumb too, bloody hurts, and its the simple things like having a piss and tieing your laces that are the real problem, A broken finger isn't anywhere near as bad so he should be ok.
