Anderson bowls Clarke, that's better. Watson looks good but the Aussie tail starts at 6 so let's not get too worried yet.

Excellent bowling since lunch by England. They've roughed up Clarke and Watson since lunch especially by Broad.

If you feel a little chilly, it's because hell has frozen over and Shane Watson has actually converted 50 to 100 for the first time in 49 test innings.

Darren Lehmann has accused Stuart Broad of "blatant cheating" on Australian radio and has urged Oz fans to abuse him at the match. Sour grapes? Whether there is any truth in it or not, the instruction to their fans is childish, to say the least.

Well if Broad's a cheat, so is Clarke, didn't walk when the ball hit the middle of the bat...

Kerrigan has bowled Monty onto the winter tour anyway...I turned out a couple of weeks back and probably bowled marginally better.

He's done Shane Watson a huge favour... career best and cruising towards 150

If I was Onions, Finn or Tremlett watching this i'd ring the England selectors and tell them to go fuck themselves!

Got to feel a bit for the fella, because he has to be better than what he's showing.

He's bowled a heap of shit but I can get my head round why they'd give him a go.

Woakes, I can't. Bowls mid 70's, doesn't swing it and hasn't scored a hundred this year.

I'd imagine because they hate going for it, and with five bowlers were shitting it about us having too long a tail. The upgrade of Woakes over Tremlett with a bat is going to be irrelevant the way this is going though.

Woakes has bowled 80-85 today, he seems to have put on a few yards and I don't think he'd be getting much stick if Kerrigan hadnt been awful but they're being judged together.

You know it's Shane Watson's day when he gets a fucking review right.

Onions is injured btw. Broken hand I believe.

The balance of the team just looks lobsided.

If you had said to most pick a batting allrounder who bowls a bit most wouldnt have had Woakes in the top 3 in there list.  Bopara or Stokes would have been better options.

If England wanted to go down the 5 bowlers route thats fine but Woakes should have been the fourth seamer and Finn/Tremlett should have played instead of Kerrigan. The 2 spinner route was highly reliant on England winning the toss.

Credit to the Aussies though, they got after the debutants put the pressure on them early knowing Cook would have to turn to them or Swann on a first day pitch offering nothing.

The pitch is going to turn so Kerrigan will get a chance on a 3rd/4th day pitch but yesterday he might have bowled himself off the Ashes trip.

With regards to the second spinner option for the winter, if Monty isnt sorted I think the most sensible option would be Tredwell.  Not the most glamourous or flashy but if it came to it Cook could rely on him to hold an end.

We live in hope. Agree about Tredders.
