Forecast is a bit of rain here and there but shouldn't lose masses of time. Bit of cloud cover wouldn't go amiss for the hometown bowler either.

Lyon is fine but nothing more, and the Aussies can't cope with that- they dropped Hauritz similarly as they're desperately searching for the attacking spinner they just don't have any more. Lyon/O'Keeffe as a Giles-type holding bowler who bats a bit is the best they can hope for right now.

I'm going up for Day 2 Nemo and staying over the Friday night! Weather forecast looks better Thursday/Friday now but Saturday/Sunday don't look the best!

Surprised at the Tremlett for Finn option, like Tremlett myself but he's been fairly quiet since coming back from injury to displace Finn?? Can't see Panesar playing...it's a home test match for one and we all know he only plays away! I can't see KP missing an Ashes test match and think the Taylor selection is just a precaution!

I think England will try and play the same 11, whch mean Tremlett and Panesar won't play. This way it means both Finn and Onions will both play in Championship games this week and get some bowling in the middle. Of course, the 4th test is at Durham, so he becomes an option especially if England starts to rest some bowlers with a view of the Ashes down under.

Not a bad shout! Win this test and the series (and Ashes) are ours once again! A long Winter ahead may mean we see the likes of Onions (Durham-4th test) and Tremlett (Surrey-5th test) play at their home ground. I do think like you Summerof69 England will try to play the same team where possible, but nice to have the options available should we win the series in the next test match.

I'm not sure England would ever rest Anderson for an Ashes match, regardless of whether it's in the bag.

I think that it's more a case of keeping Tremlett and Panesar involved in the squad because you'd expect both to be taken down under.

A spinning, bouncing deck with a bit of moisture around.

Fuck me if we need 3 days I'll be suprised.

Apparently they've sold 15,000 tickets for day 5.

Did like this though...

I have tickets for Day 4, it would be nice if they could at least make it to tea!

A lunchtime finish followed by 6 hours in the pub before you're expected back home does have its consolations though

I'm with Nemo. It better go to 4 days. Nice 5:30pm finish as we wrap up the game and the Ashes would be ideal.

I'm not asking for much.

Just noticed the draw for the 2015 WC and we've got the Aussies first game again...

Sheesh.  This pitch is turning big for a match only 40 overs into a test match.

Its a pretty poor surface really. Anything over 300 and Australia well in the game.
