So it's finally here, today is the day us cricket fans have waited for; the start of the 2013 Ashes series! Personally I can't wait as I'm going...leaving RWB at 7.30am, hoping to see England bat and pile on the runs before returning with a decent tan and more than just a few beers on board!

Some odds for you (SkyBet http://www.skybet.com/cricket/the-ashes):

-England series winners 2/5, Australia 4/1 and the draw at 13/2
-Some specials: England to win 5-0 16/1, KP top run scorer 4/1, Jimmy Anderson 11/2 for player of the series!

Major's prediction: Personally I think England will retain The Ashes and beat Australia 3-1!

Here's to a good day's play!  Beers

I don't post on this thread often, but...well, I just have.  Bring it on.  The Ashes!  It's back.  Settle in, everyone.  This is going to be fun.

The best thing about today, is the rarity of knowing it won't be affected by rain.  I can see why there's an assumption Engalnd will win, but I'm not wholly convinced....said before Engalnd are not as good as what people think and Australia not as bad. Therefore could go either way

Oz at 4/1 is pretty good, might chuck a few quid on it.

Ashton Agar a 19 year old left arm spinner debuts for Australia.  A decent bat from what I have heard so could Aus take the aggressive option and play 2 spinner with Agar batting at 7?

Nervy start from England.  In to bat and 78-2 shortly before lunch.  Cook went very cheaply.

Agar has only taken 10 wickets in first class cricket, and baring in mind the 'quality' of Aussie spinners since Warne has retired, it's simply not going to happen. They didn't even play one spinner in one of the India tests a few months ago, just to prove how much faith they have in the spinner department.

Very.  This cloud cover and ball moving isnt going to last forever.

England need to make sure they dont get knocked over for 250 or so.

Trott is the key man now me thinks.

Two sessions down in this series with a possible 73 to go.  Is it time to adjust our expectations a little?   Wink
