Would be a terrible omission. Cushioned only by the fact we've got Monty.

I'm a member at Essex as its just down the road from me. Mills is erratic but he's bloody quick. He was up to 94mph yesterday and looked a real handful, especially early on. Heading down for the final see soon later today.

Obviously, 'see soon' in last post should have said session...

If Swann were to miss out, then England would certainly play Bresnan ahead of Finn

I know it's easy to say in hindsight but did we really need a 200 partnership between Bresnan and Swann? Would surely have been better off declaring far earlier, even if Essex then outscore us, to give the frontliners another go.

Hope it's just bruised, if he's out then it's a huge blow.

If Mills has done Swanny serious damage a week before the Ashes by bumping him then the moron should be castrated

Apparently he carried on with the chin music even after hitting Swanny. He also struck Bresnan on the jaw. Someone should have had a word.

All ok for Swanny. That's a relief.

I think when England bowl Essex out tomorrow we'll see the top 7 England batsmen bat for a long period, possibly 4 sessions...result doesn't really matter in this game, but still expect England to win! Thank goodness Swann didn't break anything, hopefully he can bowl Wednesday!

Hallelujah indeed but fair play to Mills for giving it a go - worked his balls off on a pretty good batting wicket when I watched - not his job to lob down a few easy hits with a tennis ball.

Shame we can't send him to Worcestershire this week: as good as Alan Richardson is I don't think he'll be injuring anyone.

Would be quite funny to send Worcester Tremlett, Rankin, Meaker and Jamie Overton.

Exactly....Mills had an opportunity to show what he can do and took it, so fair play.

Cricket is a tough old game, so there'll always be injuries...don't supppose too many remember Ken Suttle of Sussex, who was a decent county standard bat, and slow left armer, who played 423 consecutive championship matches between 1954 and 1969.

The John Trollope of the county championship, always impressed me....don't suppose his record will ever be beaten.

It's a tough one. Of course Mills had every right to target the lower order with short stuff, in the same way you can tackle hard in a friendly. But Swanny had just come back from elbow surgery and the game was arranged purely for the purpose of preparing England for the Ashes, no other reason. Indeed, this was compounded by the farcical, predetermined toss in which Bopara said "Looks like a great track for batting so I think we'll have a bowl."
