I'm driving up to Newcastle with my two boys (nearly 3 and nearly 5). Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere to stop for the kids to break the journey up.

Which way you going, there is plenty to do in York, Jorvik, NRM etc,
Oh and whilst you are in the toon, the Centre for Life is pretty good for kids, our lass loved it last year when she was 4.

I've not done the journey in the car for years, but normally i'd go a419/a429/m69/m1. Always wanted to check York out but potentially might be a bit too far, i guess we play it by ear as to when we stop.

York is a fantastic place to visit as Horlock says, many many things for you and the kids to do, the Yorvik and NRM are excellent and also the Yrok Rowntrees chocolate story is great for a couple of hours.

I would go M5 - M42 - M1 - A1M. You could stop at Cadbury's world, still a treck after that. You could stop at Meadowhall (big shopping centre at Sheffield) just off the M1, can't miss it. You know how many times I have done the journey Chubbs

I'd go the same was as you chubbs, off at A64 into York. Go that way just to reduce the monotony of motorway driving, plus it's marginally shorter if not quicker. And choice of TGI Friday (Cov) or KFC at Leicester Forest East
Mrs B is from York, nice place, full of pesky tourists and shit parking though!
ps. the M1 is a bastard for speed cameras these days.

Cheers batch, not worried about speed cameras. I wear my sensible driving hat when the kids are in the car. :-)

Just get there! Don't stop for the kids on the way except for pit stops at service stations.

You won't want to base your trip on this, but do bear in mind that Wetherby Services on the A1(M) are modern and better than most. Worth a short stop if the kids are getting fractious.
