I don't know, I just don't know.

We'll win this.

(Blind optimism is a wonderful thing)

Leaving in a bit. Really, really, really, really pessimistic about this.

I'm dragging along a mate from Bangalore to see his first ever football match. Never know, he could well be our lucky mascot!

I'm going for 2-1 as they have a fair few injuries too.

wasn't optimistic till I saw KOT started the thread so why not 3-2 town.?

3-0 Plymouth. (Hope I am wrong but I am second in the prediction league currently!)

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.
Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 08:50:30
I don't know if I have ever predicted a defeat....so bollocks to it, I'm not going to start now. 1-0 Town (Cuthbert) A 1-0 defeat is more likely though.

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.
Post by: axs on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 09:06:44
I havent been this pessimistic about a game since southampton away last season. Based on that, 1-0 town.

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.
Post by: Barry Scott on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 09:07:15
Plymouth win 9-0. Supermarine to win and be televised in the next round.

(This is very possibly the only defeat prediction I've ever made!)

For the first time in a very long time I really couldn't give a shit. But can we have a 2-0 win please.

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.
Post by: chalkies_shorts on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 09:47:56
For no reason other than rose tinted glasses I'm going 3-4. We're bound to conceded loads with Noone probably having a field day against our defence but Plymouth are no better than us and I think Charlie will bag a couple.

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.
Post by: Posh Red on Saturday, November 6, 2010, 09:48:15
Not fancying a 500+ mile round trip have given this a miss.

The fact that I can't see anything other than a comfortable home win doesn't make it any more appealing.

I reckon it will be 3-1 to the green army mob

Are you more pessimistic than me??  A couple of bad performances recently, can we turn it round?  I don't think so, 2-0 to the Ginsters boys.

A half-arsed 1-1 draw between two teams thinking about league points not cup glory. Two bad goals as well, adding up to 15 seconds on ITV's insultingly bad coverage.

Title: Re: Swindon v Plymouth Matchday Thread.

Swindon 4-0 Plymouth Argyle.

If only because I'm here and we generally do alright when I go to away games.

The optimist in me says a 2-2 draw. The realist says 3-1 to Plymouth.

I can't see us turning things around while we're missing key players such as Douglas, Ferry, Manks and Sheehan.

1-0 win with Austin scoring.  Seriously think we'll win as we bounce back from a bad run.  Sadly, I don't think it'll continue into the league til some of the players are back from injury.  We seem to win games like these....  Not that I'm particularly bothered about the cups this season - wouldn't mind another trip to Wembley with the LDV...

I can't see us doing anything today, which probably means I'll be pleasantly surprised and we'll win 1-0!

Good to see KOT back but picked the wrong game, next week would have been the one for the comeback!

Unfortunately don't care about todays game, would rather get it over with and get on with the important stuff of turning our league season around.  Think the inevitable result today will take away one distraction we could do without.

Great stuff from Town - very unexpected but very welcome.
I went to the Marine game and it was a deserved but nervy win. Charlie Henry's lad was my MOM - he was immense at the back. First half was Marine. Second half was Eastwood.
There wasn't a great atmosphere. Eastwood must have had about 150 there and tried to create a bit of atmosphere. Total gate was probably 800 ish.

Some interesting comments on here, http://www.pasoti.co.uk/talk/viewtopic.php?t=48021&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Even the Janners concede that we battered them. Interesting to note there are no "We should be beating the likes of Swindon" or "Swindon were bad but we were worse" comments. The consensus seems to be that without Larieu playing a blinder it would have been double figures.

Happy days 8)

From the Plymouth OS report: "The biggest test of the second half for Town 'keeper Phil Smith, up until a hopeful Bolasie drive in stoppage time, was an awkward back pass from Prutton. No, really."

And Peter Reid's take on it: "They deserved it. They bossed us all over the pitch and our front-men got no change from their defenders."

Well well well, where the hell did that come from?  Didn't listen to the match, as went to watch Supermarine, but regular updates were filtering through of what was happening.  Sounds like we played really well and were defensively strong for a change, could the return of LJF be a factor?  Interesting also that when we return to the good old 4-4-2 formation and McGovern plays in his natural position, he gets an assist and we are able to play some good football.  Would have preferred 3 points and a performance on Tuesday if I'm honest, but hopefully today's performance will be a massive boost to our confidence and fingers crossed this is the turning point.

I thought the atmosphere was a bit disappointing, aside from the Eastwood supporters, there wasn't really any noise apart from the last 10 minutes or so when the home crowd started a bit.  I wondered if maybe it was because the majority of people there don't really follow Supermarine.  Everyone queuing in front of me to get in was showing their Swindon Town season tickets.  I enjoyed it and was really pleased to see them win, but I didn't find myself getting in to the game and feeling annoyed at decisions like I do at a Town game.

Rewind 6 months, and there were plenty of posts on here lamenting the fact that our 32,000 following at Wembley was padded out by folk who were not in the habit of going very often, and how that contributed to the flat atmosphere.  I imagine there are few Marine fans thinking the same this evening.

Imagine they are grateful of the gate receipts tho Ardiles. If only they get a few Town supporters going regularly when Town are away they'll be happy. If the atmosphere at Marine is anything like a Poole game FA Cup aside, generally there isn't a lot of singing going on

Mark Scott on loan to Marine from town has excellent, two top saves to keep them ahead, not the most commanding in the box though. Supermarine were very lucky not to concede, Eastwood hit the inside of the post in stoppage time.

I agree with joteddyred but good support from Eastwood, their end was full, interesting that they swap ends at half time aswell as the players. Was anyone stood near the person who let the firework off during the match?

what they have acheived in the last couple of years and into this season is absolutely superb.
i go and watch them a few times a season(missed today) and apart from a couple of loyals who occasionally shout out "come on marine". that's about as much as you hear there.

Just back from the Argyle game (live in Exeter) and have to say that was great game which we dominated from start to finish. The back 5 looked very strong with Lecs keeping Wright Phillips quiet and Morrison winning everything chucked up to Fallon. As said, Smith had nothing much to do. Poor home support but a few lively ones were good value.

News Corp is already larger than the Beeb and if current growth rates (and BBC cuts continue) News Corp will be twice the size of the BBC by 2014.

I tweeted the Adver chap last night and he said that Timlin was okay but mainly added balance. He was More positive on LJF and the team as a whole.

I tweeted the Adver chap last night and he said that Timlin was okay but mainly added balance. He was More positive on LJF and the team as a whole.

Then the adver chap is a penis, or maybe he's not been watching us for very long. Compared to the Timlin of last season he was brilliant, chased down loads of hopeless causes and won them.

In fact the whole team seemed to work much harder than they have done this season and the rewards were obvious. Think we must have won 99.9% of 50/50 balls and some of the passing was fantastic.

Big mentions must go to Smiffy - he didn't have much to do, but when he did nothing got past. His distribution was also good.

LJF - What can I say? Absolutely brilliant performance.

Big Vinny - Was very difficult to play against yesterday and improved as the game went on.

Charlie - Usual performance, 100% player.

Sir David Prutton - Immense. The man is a footballing God. We. Are. Not. Worthy.

Morrison - Best performance I've seen from him.

Tbh I could go through the whole team, as they were all good. Well, when I say all......Alan O'brien - scared them shitless when he came on with his pace. Unfortunately his crossing was dire, beat players, got into great positions, then fucked it up.

But hey, that's a minor grumble. I just hope we can carry this form through to Tuesday then into the league. If we can, we're gonna see some great performances!

Much better than recently. Further proof that he definitely isn't a centre midfielder.

Cheers. He's a key player for me. Was wondering/expecting a switch out wide would sort him out. A bit more confidence then he should be flying.

JP sounded pretty chuffed to have gotten an assist on the radio after the game. Also agreed that the switch of formation helped... Let's stick with what we know Danny!
Glad to have Lecs back too, he's quality.

Will be interesting to see what Wilson does about LJF. He's hardly put a foot wrong this season yet Wilson obviously rates Cuthbert and Morrison (and probably Frampton) over him at CB. So what happens when he has got 3 CB's to pick from?

I'm a bit biased as I've always rated him, but I really do think LJF should be given a decent run at CB. Even if that means dropping Cuthbert (and Frampton), as I'd give LJF and Morrison a go - just got a feeling they could really click long term.

Shocked though that BBC report claims crowd was 2,600 - would never had said it was that many??

Actual attendance at Marine was 1159. Pretty good and easily their best ever attendance for a competitive match.

Apparently ITV will have their cameras at Marine today to capture their reaction to the draw.

Frampton's gone and won't be back. LJF was played as a CB yesterday, with Cuthbert moved out wide, so Danny's already made the change you don't think he'll make?

He was forced in to it - only Caddis and Thompson available to play at right back. What happens when Amankwaah is fit or he gets another right back in? Can't see him preferring Caddis over Amankwaah at right back.

Can't see him dropping Morrison either as he can't stop scoring goals. Having said that I just had a really crazy thought, how about playing Morrison up front along side Austin?

If we do well defensively over the next couple of weeks without him, I wonder whether Danny will bother bringing him back?  Doesn't seem much use if he's going to be injury prone?  I'm pleased LJF had a good game, I've always thought at time he's unfairly been singled out for flak and as proved a few times last season, looks far better at CB than some give him credit for.

I read the Sunday Independent report on the match, who covers all the Devon sides plus Brizzle, and by them the Plymuff crowd celebrated like they scored when they got their two shots on target.

That's because Plymouth played the most predictable football with everything being punted up to Fallon to knock on to Wright Phillips.  Was so simple for Morrison and JFL to counteract.

It got to a point though that we were 7 down and probably going down and going bust that a form of gallows humour took over - might as well have a laugh.

Trevor Benjamin scored a goal too. Offside but it counted none the less.

Different situation than being dumped out of the FA Cup in the 1st Rd, at home, against a team you'd already beaten in the league though.

God we were shit that season, only won 11 league games and only 2 away!
