Title: Red Shirts, white shorts, Red Socks.
Post by: TownYsend on Monday, November 14, 2011, 11:36:44
I can't be the only person who loved seeing Swindon not wearing ALL red against huddersfield? I really wouldn't be against going back to the white shorts.

I've always been a big fan of the all red with white trim...but i've gotta say that particular kit looks class with white shorts, decent amount of red trim on the shorts as well, spot on.

We wore all red when I starting going to, rightly or wrongly thats our colours to me.

We switched back to white shorts in the early 2000s didnt we? I always wanted us to go back to all red. Yet oddly I thought the red, white, red looked fantastic saturday.

Honestly though, red shirts, white shorts and red socks just makes us look like Bristol City!

We win, they lose. They look like us in that kit.  ;D

Same, The white short kits we had around that time weren't great and I was happy to go back to red shorts....but this particular kit looks class with the white shorts.

I've never understood this argument, even with just the shirts...it seems every time one comes out there is always at least one clown saying 'it looks too much like a City shirt'

I couldn't give a monkeys what colour shorts the team wear,as long as the shirt is red. The kit choice at Wembley still grates me grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I don't like 'the people' on the shirt either. Those cunts helped ruin us in 1990

I'm just waiting for the guy that says "We wore all white at wembley. Wearing white shorts at home could have the same domino effect."

We were formed before them but they did wear the red & white before us,but it's a pointless argument and to be honest the thing that annoys me more is them pinching our nickname.

That's a bit like a rioter saying the newspapers were responsible for them being convicted because they published their picture in the paper.  Just because everyone else was rioting doesn't make it any less relevant to print the picture that resulted in a conviction.  The People were doing their job and if our management team had been doing theirs and being diligent there would have been no story to publish.

As I have said before, if it were Oxford they had exposed we'd all be rushing out to buy the shirt...

Its pretty simple really.

When I started going regularly we wore all red and city wore red and white.

Then we changed (back) to red and white - but by that time I'd already associated all red with us and red and white with City.

Of course people who started going long before  me, when we wore red and white will associate red and white with us rather than City.

Would love us to go back to the white shorts! Better look.

When did we go back to having red shorts? Wasn't it the last time we were in League 2 in 06/07? I'm sure we played with white shorts when we got relegated in 2006?

I stared going in 1986 and the kit was red with white shorts, in the 1969 final we wore white? Was white our "home" colours then or was that the away kit at the time?

White was the away kit at the time but in the final Arsenal were the 'home' team, so we had to play in our away kit - we didnt choose to!

Likely being a similar age to you, I feel the same. But it wasn't really directed at you....it seems regardless of the colour of the shorts there's always some moron saying the shirt looks like a City Shirt whenever a new one is brought out.

I grew up with red and white, but I actually prefer the all red kit.

So many other teams play in red and white, its nice to be a little different.

While we're at it, I'd love to change our nickname from the Robins to the Moonrakers, it really annoys me that a few other teams are called the Robins, it just seems a little errrmm, generic?

Now I've been going regularly to the CG since 1979 so it not like I'm a new fan forgetting tradition or anything but for some reason, the Robins thing just annoys the piss out of me.

We've changed our crest as often as my Uncle has changed wives, so why not the nickname?

I await a torrent of abuse...

Wouldn't be the first time the nickname had changed. And we'd get rid of Rockin' Robin in the process!

Oh yeah, now that's a bonus I hadn't thought of.... perhaps we could get Ray Howell back with his gown and rake instead....

So what would the Robinette's be called then? The Moonies?

White was the away kit at the time but in the final Arsenal were the 'home' team, so we had to play in our away kit - we didnt choose to!

Both teams played in red and white, their alternative strip was yellow shirts with blue shorts whilst ours was all blue. The rules for the LCF were that in the event of a clash both teams had to wear their alternative kit, as these kits also clashed we as the away team play in our second alternate kit - all white.

I associated the white shorts with our bad seasons... 99/00, 00/01, 05/06. Whereas we were all redfor the Leicester play off, 95/96, playoffs under King, 06/07, 09/10..

With red shirt/white shorts in the following seasons...

Don't see why not as we're back with Adidas now. Man United sell retro shirts in their club shop but remove the umbro logo. I like how going through all the kits, you see the size of shorts change over the years.

Really like the spartans kit actually. Going to look into something similar for a sunday league team.

http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/

The following League teams play in red shirts, shorts and socks.

Liverpool, Orient, STFC , Crawley. Pisses me off we are currently the bottom ranked League club of those 4!!!!

Playing in Red Shirts, white shorts - Arsenal, Man United, Barnsley, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Charlton, Walsall, Accrington, Crewe, Morecambe, Rotherham

Middlesborough play in red shirts with white shoulders, red shorts and white socks.

Yes indeed.... protesting, I remember all that nonsense....

Perhaps I should delete my account in some sort of childish lash out... a line in the sand if you will...it would broadcast the message loud and clear to Watkins and the rest of his cronies - "we're not taking this 'Robins' shit anymore!!"

I'll re-join when the nickname has changed... it'll hurt to do it as I love the club etc etc etc.

I quite liked the diamond logo, but am equally happy with the current crest.

For some reason, the kits with bits of green trim are my favourites.

I am a Wiltshire boy through and through, and like the idea of being called the moonrakers, but you can't just choose a new nickname - people just wouldn't use it, any more than anyone calls the Stratton Bank the Adkins Family Stand.

Very good.

The Robins has always been a half-arsed nickname anyway.  You never hear it sung in the ground.  It's a term used by journalists, not fans.

I'd agree in general Ardiles, although my great uncle (who i went to footy with for 25 years plus before his passing 18 months ago) used to shout "C'mon you robins" at least once a game.

I'd miss our knickname purely for that sentimental reason.

Isn't it funny how some kits are so closely associated with certain players. As soon as I saw the 91-93 Diamond Leisure kit, I could almost see Fjortofts head above it, the same with 95-97 and Ian Culverhouse, 84-85 Andy Rowland & 89-91 Alan Mac. Not sure why these particular players, guess they are the ones that stick in the memory
