Remove any external devices like memory sticks, external hard drives or CDs that are in the drive.

If that doesn't work, go into the BIOS (Setup) and make sure that the 1st boot device is set to Hard Drive (presumably IDE or SATA).

Uh-oh! At difficult times like this it's always worth following ISO 3103. Normally helps.

You've deleted an xp file. Have you got an XP disk? If so do a repair.

:D

Thats the bootloader, arriba. How the fuck did you manage to delete that?!

I've got a copy of XP on CD you can borrow to do a restore if you have a valid license key.

And the moral of the story is don't go fucking about with stuff you don't know!

Have you used a "Remove duplicate file tool" recently Arriba?

Having a flaky hard drive can also do this, its easy enough to get rid of and repair though, but you do need an XP installation disk, then do this order.

Load Windows XP CD into CD drive.
Make sure BIOS is set to boot to CD drive.
Boot the computer from CD.
At menu, press "R" to load Recovery Console.
Select the installation to be fixed.
(assuming D is your CD/DVD drive letter)-
Type "COPY D:\i386\ntldr C:\" and press ENTER.
Type "COPY D:\i386\ntdetect.com C:\" and press ENTER.
Remove CD and type "EXIT" and press ENTER (to reboot your computer).

i aint got a clue how i did it.i was just deleting stuff to free up space on my hdd as i needed to free some up to defragment it.
i left stuff alone with microsoft,or windows etc on it,and just deleted what i thought was not used.silly me...

i aint used a duplicate anything as i aint got a clue what that is.and i aint got a clue what a valid licence key is either?
i didn't have a dodgy version of xp if that's what you mean sam?

It look slike there is a good chance that you actually delete the NTLDR file without knowing it, it is possible to boot the pc up in dos mode and get it back from the recycle bin but its very technical and if you are not used to DOS then I would suggest using the method I put above and using an XP installation disk...borrow one, any one will do just for the reinstall of that file, it will load in but could well reset all your drivers back to default and you will have to install them all again.

About half an hours work but you wont have lost anything.

If you are not confident about that then get someone in who does know who can help, I would offer but am not exactly local to you!
