Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, 08:06:40
I'm feeling optimistic, we'll win 3-1.

Jevons for them after 30 seconds, then we'll score three in the last 15 minutes.

Team prediction:
Code:

                                       Smith

Comminges          Ifil                        Aljofree              Nicholas

Easton              Allen                      Peacock              MacNamee

                      Cox                        Paynter

Subs: Morrison, Ashikodi, Brezovan, Sturrock, Pook

And I'll be in the Merlin from 5.15ish  8)

Nicho, unfortunately, hasn't been good enough this season to be selected ahead of Vincent or Comminges.  He has rather tailed off since our play off season, can see him being released this summer.

*edit - actually tailed off maybe a little ott, perhaps failed to regain the form he showed that season.

Surely not, our defence didn't look that bad.  Midfield will be key, can we dominate the middle like we did on Saturday, if so and the strikers find their scoring boots, 3 points to the town!

My season ticket will take me there tonight, but it is boring and frustrating at the moment. I never enjoy football without proper wingers who can "dribble" as we used to call it. Roberts can only do it by pushing it past and hoping for his diminishing speed to get him clear, and on the left he is useless unless he is allowed to cut inside. McGovern is slow and cannot do it at all. Easton is a very good  CM, not winger. McAmee could be great if he had proper backup when he is doubled up on by defenders. Zaboob has all the ability but is inconsistent, usually wastes the final ball, and you never feel he will score. Comminges actually looks like the best winger on our books. What will be the next Malpas restructuring be like?
My take is that Nicho gives better support to the LM than Vincent and is O.K. defensively. Jack Smith has been a good fullback and needs to come back if fit. So I would like to see:

Brezovan.  Smith, Aljofre, Ifil, Nicho.  Comminges, Peacock, Easton, McAmee or Zaboob. Cox, Paynter.

At least we might see a few runs and pullbacks besides long hoofs and hopeful passes hoping for a mistake perhaps.

This was the game where Gorre literally checked his rattle out of his pram. This was the season of our first Administration, hadn't won for around 20 games and Uddersfield were going for promotion.

We scored in the first minute, and we were safely holding our own, which in turn was frustrating Uddersfield.

Half way into the second half, a free kick was given against Gorre, which he didn't like and said something to the ref. The ref called him over and told him to calm down. Anyway, Gorre starts to walk away, but was still giving verbals to the ref. The ref cals him over and gives him a yellow.

Gorre then starts walking into the centre of the pitch, where he notices this piece of mud on top of the pitch, where he kicks it in frustration.

The ref calls him over, books him again, and off he goes.

We score a late second, to win 2-0.

Yup. Spat his dummy for a free kick given against him near the dugout, ref booked him for dissent, continued to gob off, second yellow also for dissent. Bye Bye.

Doesn't sound spectacular, but it was the arm waving tiny tears Oscar performance that made it funny.

I remember that! Very funny.

I think Tim Sills away at Hereford last season is a close second though. Mainly due to the fact he'd only been on the pitch 30 seconds, and because it was mainly down to us giving him so much stick about being ex-Oxford.

Roberts on the bench
By Andy Cryer
Comment
MAURICE Malpas has again tinkered with his wingers as Town look to revive their play-off bid in tonight's home clash with Huddersfield.

Anthony McNamee will start on the left wing, with Christian Roberts dropping down to the substitutes bench, while Craig Easton will continue on the right side of midfield.

Jamie Vincent has won his battle against injury while Andy Nicholas, Blair Sturrock and Sofi Zaaboub are still completely left out of the squad.

 TOWN:
Phil Smith, Jamie Vincent, Lee Peacock, Jerel Ifil, Craig Easton, Miguel Comminges, Hasney Aljofree, Billy Paynter, Chris Allen, Anthony McNamee, Simon Cox SUBS: Peter Brezovan, Jack Smith, Christian Roberts, JP McGovern, Moses Ashikodi

This is how the Adver printed the team. Hope the players don't check there to see where they are playing.

ref=cunt

the pen peacs "gave away" was never a pen.
peacs should never have been sent off.

one of their lads did a 50/50 studs up challenge on smith and it wasn't even a free kick

blah blah ref stuff

we scored three good goals, only good through macnamee's skill however.
shame the ref ruined it

BUT WE WON. FUCK YEAH

Right then just got back.

The ref was absolutely shite, and got to the point where he was giving EVERYTHING to the away side.

The penalty before half time was a joke as Peacock won the ball, and the lino looking straight at the incident didn't give nothing.

A few minutes later Aljofree was caught late in the penalty box after putting a cross in...but no penalty for us.

Peacock given a straight red for a challenge that was at most a yellow. Hell he didn't even know what he was sent off for.

Paynter was sent off for handling on the line, but before the ref blew up, one of the Huddersfield players had forced the ball over the line, so he could've given the goal and we would've still had 10 men on the field.

But what typified his performance was the fact he didn't send Andy Booth for a very late challenge, after he'd already got booked, but just had a chat with him.

Ray Lee...remember his name with fear. Also, do not trust a referee with two first names.

And this after we looked like thrashing them with MacNamee causing so many problems.

I told ya!!

That ref was absolute gash. I had a perfect view of the penalty from the town end, and peacock quite clearly played the ball. I do think his sending off was fair, studs up and showing. Can't complain at paynters either. All the bloody 50-50's went to huddersfield though. The ref has absolutley no clue about football whatsoever, and the soner he fucks off and dies (or retires) the better for everybody.

We went 3-0 up without really deserving it. We had 4 chances and 3 went in. Allen Played well, im becoming very impressed with him. Looks better than lukas did at that age, and a damn site better than pook.

Smith looked abit dodgy, making punches when he should of caught them. But the only goals he conceded were penaltys, so can't be too critical. HIs kicking was slightly cack though. Aljofree had a good game, and ifil looked abit dodgy. Commingesh again was properly immense, even on the left

MotM though has to go to one man: Anthony Mcnamee. He fell away a little second half, but in the first half he shat all over sincalir. And his delivery the last 2 goals was quite simply superb.

And i've said it once, i've said it a million times - a growing minority of swindon fans are fucking mindless retards f the highest order. I would be livid i that ref gets to ref another game, lost it totaly.

Macnamee was superb.

Smith was dodgy in goal, Kept punching to start with when he didint need to, then the 50/50 challenge he hurt his arm and form that moment his kicking went to pot and started to try catching balls and i think i counted about 3/4 times he dropped the ball.
Apart from that, he didint really have much to do.

Ming's move to the left didint phase him at all, again was great.

Umm Ashikodi? I dont know where to start. haha.

The ref was a disgrace. How on earth was that a penalty in the first half? Peacock clearly won the ball. It was the turning point in the game because we were cruising before then. Mcnamee looked class as did Miguel and i thought they looked good down the left as a partnership.

Peacock should never have been sent off. Paynter shouldn't have been booked in the first place. Didn't see the sending off for him though as i was in the town end and it was hard to see. But we showed passion and guts to hold on and i'm happy because we won the game.

The two reds were justified. First of all Peacock's challenge was very stupid in the current climate. I heard his studs on the player's shin pads from the back of the Kingswood stand.

For the second red, if the ref had given the goal then he would have had to book Paynter, who was already on a yellow anyway.

Tonight....

Ref was awful - proper terrible. Seemed to lose it midway through the first half. I was in the Town End, and it was NEVER a penalty for the first one. Ref may have had a bad view, but shouldnt have been.

Great goals, and McNamee looked awesome everytime her got the ball. Exactly what Roberts was missing on Saturday.

The minge looked great again, and first half we were in control. Paynter was an idiot for handballing, but i guess it was a spur of the moment thing.

Cant understand the smoking situation in town end....i dont smoke, but dont have a problem really. Obviously its banned so loads of fans go to the toilets in Townend every week for a crafty one - i just cant work out why there are always about 8 stewards standing outside, but not going in to check! If one of them just walked in, they would smell fags, and see people hiding behind cubical doors!

And finally im getting pissed off with Swindon fans in general. Fair play to those who turned up tonight, and i thought things had changed when Phil Smith didnt get booed at the start this week. He had problems with his kicking today, but people  constantly shouting that he is shit, and singing "one Peter Brezovan" isnt gonna help anyone. Im sure these people are the same twats shouting for Malpas out every time we concede a goal.
And to the other side of me was a bunch of people slagging off Ashikodi for not marking or trying! He came on, didnt stop running for 15-20 minutes - im not sure how these people expect him to mark 2 players at once. He didnt do much, but he was definatly covering a lot of ground. And im not Malpas biggest fan, but i thought taking him off again was a masterstroke - wasted some time, got fresh legs up front AGAIN and didnt disrupt the shape of the other 8 players.

What a great game.

What a shit ref. Makes Styles look good. Never in a million years a penalty. That decision changed the game.

No arguments about the second sending off, though a second yellow may have yielded a lesser ban than a straight red. It was a twattish thing to do thought from Paynter. Is he out for longer because this is his second sending off?

Need to see the first one again, did look that bad but I only really saw it out the corner  of my eye.

McNamee ripped their fullback to shreds. Was Sinclair marking him the first half? Whoever it was will be having nightmares.

Personally I'd have taken to booked Paynter off rather than Cox. Paynter was superb, but with 10 men Cox's workrate would have been better than Paynters 'power'. I guess he thought Paynter would hold on to it better.

Chris Allen was good again tonight. Early days, but the step up from youth/stiffs to first team is so far seamless.

Was Akishodi injured hence subs? If so I apologise for calling him a lazy cunt who should fuck off back to Watford. If not, erm, see previous.

Most of what I wanted to say has already been covered, but I want to mention a couple of points.

P Smith - what the fuck's happened to him?! He dropped 3 or 4 easy balls, granted he picked them up fairly easily but he should have held them in the first place. I think he's been told to punch crosses, as is evident with Brez as well, but he just doesn't look comfortable with it. Once he's punched it he just gets stranded around the penalty spot and can't make the follow up crosses that come back in.

Ashikodi - fucking useless. I understand subbing him to waste time, but when he's only been on for ten minutes and we're down to 9 men he needs to CLOSE THE FUCKING BALL DOWN! He just wandered around up front and generally didn't give a fuck.

Our dugout - somebody needs to take charge. At one point I saw Malpas and Byrne having a go at Comminges, Granville shouting orders and Williams shouting at someone else. Where's the fucking organisation?

Referee - if it was a Saturday game I would quite gladly have waited behind after the game and verbally abused him. He was truly awful. Fair enough, both sendings off were deserved but he was so inconsistent it was unbelievable. Paynter (before being sent off) was being kicked to bits by the 'Udders centre halfs and the ref didn't even give a foul.

I didn't think it was possible but that ref made Rob Styles' performance against Rovers look superb.

First goal was well worked, Cox broke down the left turned back onto his right and put the cross in... decent volley to finish it from Paynter. Second and third goals were both set up by McNamee I think, who was superb first half, but didn't seem to see so much of the ball second half. Credit to Easton for making the most of being stuck out on the wing and weighing in with a couple of goals. Cox should have scored from another McNamee cross after about 25 mins but managed to pull it wide from 6 yards.

Then the ref decided to make a game of it. The penalty, I'll admit I didn't have the best view, but it certainly looked a little harsh. Half time, 3-1 but it could well have been 4 or 5 for us, Huddersfield were awful at the back.

Peacock's red card looked a little harsh I hope we'll be appealing, he didn't seem to get much contact with Kamara... the way he jumped up a moment or two later certainly suggests so.

Paynter's red card, spot on. Stupid thing to do, he'd already been booked so there was no doubt he'd have to go. By all means throw yourself at it and hope to get something on it but don't start playing volleyball ffs.

Ashikodi, I don't remember him breaking into a sprint at all. He just seemed to come on and wander around for 10 minutes.

Chris Allen really impressed me, distribution was superb and got stuck in towards the end when Huddersfield were streaming forward for the equaliser.

I've been looking forward to Orient next week, but it's going to very tough without Peacock and Paynter and we'll do well to come away with anything. On the brightside, it'll probably mean Easton moves back into the centre.

Thats fair enough and there were a couple of occasions where i would have expected another player to go whole heartedly. Well that's a fair point.

What wound me up was the lack of closing down when up against a single defender. He only had to last 15-20 mins and whilst he has looked pretty dodgy quality wise, the one thing he is good at is running!

There was the "ref, this ball is flat" incident v Swansea, and now the "I'm going to go over to the left wing" manoeuvre tonight when about to be substituted.

In a way I'm glad Vincent got injured, as it allowed McNamee the room to deliver some brilliant crosses and use his skill to beat one man and not have to beat two.

Was a gutsy performance. Huddersfield were a poor team, looked to get the ball in the air and get a knock down a lot - they had some big players. We just about managed to cope.

Going down to 9 men - other players could have lost their heads. None did. We stuck it out and it's the first time I've seen in ages where we have managed it.

Those who slated Malpas' substitutions are fools. Paynter held the ball up one day. We are 2 goals ahead - you keep him on and have to sacrifice the other smaller striker. That's just the way football is played.

Paynter will be suspended for two games. One for deliberate hand-ball which prevents a goal scoring opportunity and another match because he's already been sent off once.

So far this season that's Ifil, Zaaboub, Corr, Paynter and Paynter [sic] that have been sent off. All straight reds as well IIRC?

McNamee had a superb first half. The Minge had an interesting game at left back - played pretty well but fucked up a couple of times in the first half and fell over the ball in the second. Jack Smith played well as did Aljofree. Phil Smith wasn't very impressive at all - his punching and kicking were weak and he went walkies for their second penalty. Allen loked really useful and with this season effectvely over, I'd like to see him given a long run. Easton looked more comfortable and Peacs looked good until his sending off. From where I was I thuoght it was a yellow but some other lads said he went well over the top and deserved it. Cox had a decent game as did Paynter before his stupid sending off.

A word for Smith - yes he looked shakey and I had my heart in my mouth a couple of times. But he also pulled off at least two point-blank saves that kept us in it when down to 9 men. So instead of saying what he DID do with those saves, there's people (not really on here but texting in to radio and doubtless on thisis) having a go for what he MIGHT have done. Hell's teeth, he's obviously low on confidence but it seems some people are determined to break the lad.

Peacs looked good until his sending off. From where I was I thuoght it was a yellow but some other lads said he went well over the top and deserved it.

I had a pretty good view - he was late and over the top but a red looked harsh, but definite yellow. Although if you're late and over the top you're always risking red.

...Especially with that ref.

Right here we go.

Phil Smith - 4 - thought he was poor punched way to much and dropped some right in the area luckily at Jerel or Aljofree's feer most of time. Kicking was well off, althrough from back passes you could see it bobbling. Completely at fault for the 2nd goal, came miles and didnt punch it. Brez back please!

Jack Smith - 6 - Not the most solid he has ever been but considering he hasnt played first team football in a very long time I thought he was very good

Jerel Ifil - 6 - Not his best game, looks a shadow of the early season Beast....

Aljofree - 6 - the usual from him I guess.

Comminges - 6 - Not his best game and some un-miguel like errors but was still pretty good. More comfortable on the right though!

Easton - 6 - Worked his bollocks off and got a couple of goals

Allen - 6 - Thought he did well, passing was pretty thoughful sometimes it came off sometimes it didnt. Was pretty impressed he lasted the full 90....he was still chasing everything down in the last minutes

Peacock - 6 - Challenge was a bit reckless and un-needed.....always going for the ball. Thought both men went in studs showing for the ball. Different was Peacock got up and carried on and Kamara when down like he'd broken his leg (he's not as hard as his old man!) Ref didnt even talk to the linesman (did he?) who would have had the best view

McNamee - 7 - Tore Sinclair apart when he good, great skill and alot of very good crosses. Looked dangerous and was everything Roberts wasnt on Saturday.

Cox - 6 - Pretty poor by his standards and was the obvious sacrifice when we went down to 10. Should have scored, lacking a bit of confidence I think. Linked up well with Paynter

Paynter - FUCKING IDIOT - Got himself sent off for no real fucking reason, maybe us go down to 9 men and will miss two games for us as well. Total fucking idiot that wasnt needed at all.

I was pleased with the way we held on and battled, particular Easton and Allen in the middle.

After the second I always thought Huddersfield had a 3rd in them. thought Booth header was in all the way till Smith tipped it over.

First half was all us, could have at least 2 more goals.....40 minutes gone and the contest seemed to be over.

Penalty given for (???) couldnt even see it, so someone who sat in the town end help me out here? and its 3-1.

Second half they come out and put a bit of pressure on us. Game looks pretty safe....then sendings off and and a nervous 10 minutes.

The ref was fucking awful, how many times to the defenders pull Paynters shirt, or push him in the back or climb all over him and he gets NOTHING for it. Yet the second Ifil touches their strikers its a free kick.

Not sure what the first penalty was for.....but I thought he was fucking awful even before the red cards and I hope he gets his P45 in the morning.

That's ridiculous Paul.  If Brezovan had been playing, not only would he have saved both penalties, but he would have turned back time so that Peacock missed the over the top lunge (looked like red from the Arkells)

I can't believe people's reaction to Malpas at the moment. The bloke stands no chance. Some pillock in the Arkells wanted our physio to "stamp on Smith's head" when he went down injured. I enjoyed pointing out Smith's save in the second half in  a "Brezovan wouldn't have saved that" way

Malpas reckons the penalty was against Comminges, which is even more bizarre than for the fair challenge Peacock put in.

it was purely a time wastine sub....

Roberts waste the ball, all the fucking time....last thing MM wanted was to bring on Roberts and have him give the ball away in midfield and for them to score. Only place for him was upfront out the way.

So it had to be like for like....so he made Moses go wide left.....then took him off.

Ref was a total cunt tonight. He got both Paynter's and Peacocks sending offs right I thought but he did fuck all for us when the udders tackles went flying in. No surprise to see the Orange jacket stewards piling on to the pitch to protect the cunt after the match had finished. What's the collective for that many cunts being seen on a football pitch as the same time?

Smith did well with a couple of blinding saves towards the end but I agree that his handling was fucking dodgy at times as he played pat-a-cake with simple enough catches. Most of his dodgy kicking came when he was put under pressure with a back pass though. That pitch was fucking all over the place as the game went on and I could see the ball bobbling like fuck as he went to kick it several times so i'm not going to be too harsh on him. He needs to get a fucking grip though or Brez will get back in.
Minge was class, as was Allen, who is definately way fucking better than Michael Pook and deserves an extended run in the side now. Only a dip in form or confidence should keep him out, and I'd be taking a long, long look at the expiry date on his contract if I were Malpas.

McNamee tore them a new arsehole in the first half and provided some quality service for once. He tired and faded 2nd half but he'd done the damage by then anyway. The finishing of Paynter and Easton couldn't be faulted. Just waiting for Coxy to get firing on all cylinders now..

I know everyone was shitting themselves thinking that we'd collapse after the second sending off and the penalty conversion, but we didn't just give in, which is a huge fucking credit to the lads as they kept at it 100% all night. They fought like fuck for the win and Malpas deserves credit for the speed and effectiveness of his substitutions and for the way he quickly adapted to the sending offs.

Oh, and Moses was injured I think. Why the fuck else would he clap the crowd as he walked off, having been subbed as a sub??

to be fair, when you are one goal to the good with 9 men and with a few minutes to go....most of the above is common sense....

Sadly, no. He was on Smith's back from the start, and Malpas' and was beside himself with glee when Smith was getting treatment.

He'd didn't look Slovakian, and for Pauld's info, I don't think you can blame the parents - he was in his sixties ( I guess you could blame senility).

Mind you there was a lot of general criticism. I wouldn't be surprised if both penalties were Malpas's fault, along with Vincent's injury and the credit crunch

Problem is though Paul not only did he cost us a goal last night he ended up costing us a player for 2 (maybe more) games as Paynter got sent off trying to bail him out after he completely messed up on their second goal. At the moment he is just not good enough unfortunately and as such shouldn't be in the starting line up. That moment in the second half where he ran to pick up the ball and ended up dropping it behind him could have been a disaster...........I just don't see how he can get the nod over Brez at the moment as he's had his chance and just not looked up to it.

When Hammond had spells in the side over Fraser in the early 90's, was Fraser injured? If not, just goes to show that Malaps isn't the first Town manager to rotate his keepers, when one is probably better than the other.

In a way I feel for Phil Smith - he's a million times better than the Jimmy Glass' and Griemink's of this world and on a par with Mildenhall, Talia (only at his best - people forget his player of the year season) etc who held onto the short for prolonged spells.

But form is temporary and all that...Brez is a cut above and should be part of the permanant spine.

Right this is exactly what I was talking about - no-one seems to be giving him credit for a brave one-on-one to the feet in the first half and two or three fine saves in the second that kept us in the game when we were down to 9 men, ie what he DID, but instead they're focusing on what he MIGHT have done. I'm inclined to agree that Brez IS the better keeper at the moment but Smith is still a good keeper, just low on confidence, and I can't believe people have such short memories of how good he was last season. Of course, it could turn out to be self-fulfilling because if people keep booing him it will of course further undermine his confidence, he won't regain his previous form and it'll probably wreck his career, at least at Swindon. Doubtless then the thisis vultures will be delighted.

Ritchie is furious with defending

Ritchie is not giving up on promotion despite Town sitting 16th (Getty)
Huddersfield Town manager Andy Ritchie blamed 'schoolboy defending' for Tuesday's 3-2 defeat at Swindon.
Town went 3-0 down inside half an hour and, although Phil Jevons scored two penalties, Town could not level against the nine men of Swindon.

Ritchie told BBC Radio Leeds: "We defended like schoolboys - we never got to grips with them at all.

"Every time they came down our end it looked like they'd score. We've got to start games brighter and in the zone."

He added: "With three goals it's just been too much to climb.

"When we get the ball down and play and go at people we can play round anyone and create chances."

It'll be very difficult to climb that mountain into the play-offs now, but we've still got the games there

Huddersfield manager Andy Ritchie

The Terriers pulled it back to 3-2 when Phil Jevons scored his second penalty after Billy Paynter was sent off for Swindon, but they could not find the elusive equaliser.

"We definitely deserved something out of it, but it wasn't to be," said Ritchie.

"They didn't give me any cause for concern on the passion front, because we had a lot of good football in the first half - it was just that we defended like schoolboys."

Town remain nine points outside the play-off places and have just 12 games left to make the top six.

Ritchie said: "It'll be very difficult to climb that mountain into the play-offs now, but we've still got the games there.

"It needs us to go on that run again. We'll go down to Leyton Orient on Saturday and try and start the game better than we have done tonight."

I just like to say well done to Malpas  last night.  I know people like Cox but he made the right choice at the time to keep the ball winner upfront, he also, probably by luck, found out the issue with the team.  If Zaaboub can be used as a left back then him and the Minge at full backs would make the Easton project work I think.  How many times in that first half did we end up with two players attacking the back post coming in fof the wing?  it was a great thing to see.  I liked our shape first half and can;t fault the players work rate last night, other than Moses who I felt just didn't work out how to play.  Once down to 9 he had to just run his bollocks off but he seemed to try and stay in the middle to occupy 2 defenders, like you would with 10.

Could have been 5 up by half time.

I like the look of Allen, offers way more on the ball than Pook and I can see why Easton has been the one to move a little wider as Malpas clearly wants some passing options in the middle.  I'm concerned that his shorts are bit too big for him though, surely we can get him some kids ones?

Been a while since we have had a penalty for or against us though.

 :D

And we go and get 2 of the buggers against us.

Nice to see Allen have a go from 25 yards to bring a good save by the keeper.  Also decent corners fizzed in, not like the floaters Roberts delivers.

How many shots on target did we have last night, excluding the goals?

Axs, I believe its a 'carnival of cunts'.

Ref was a cunt, have never cheered so much for a decision given our way. I hope Moses was injured.

Moses wasn't injured, just unfit, he was blowing out of his arse within 5 mins of being on the pitch.  Funniest sub ever!

If he really wasn't injured, he shouldn't darken our doors again. Say what you like about Sturrock (B) there would have been a damn sight more chasing down if he'd been available on the bench.

Any ideas when sick note is ready again ? (that's the striking sicknote, as opposed to the defensive one)

And as I said earlier he pulled off at least two point-blank saves to keep us in it when down to 9 men. He's having a shaky time since being brought back in, obviously low on confidence so maybe some praise for what he did right to balance out the slating for what he got wrong might help. He was a damn good keeper last season, he hasn't lost that but if people keep getting on his back all the time, we'll wreck him.

By the same token,  Brezovan "completely messed up" on Northamptons equaliser recently, and has been even flappier than Smith on crosses. Add to that the fact that his positioning for Forest's winner was seriously questionable (thereby costing us 3 points over two games) and you have at least as compelling an argument for Smith retaining his place.

Is there an issue with the goalkeeping coach? (ie not being very good?)

Neither keeper is playing especially well of late :|

If that's true he'd be on the first train back to Watford if I was the manager.

And in one case getting booed when his name's read out

I think we should have "We love you Smithy (even if you're a bit flappy sometimes)" banners at the next game

Smithy made some decent saves-especially from the free kick first half but was at fault for the second goal through indecision..Jack Smith was fucking great I thought -his distribution is better than any of our other defenders, always plays it to feet very rarely wastes a ball.Comminges showed what a versatile player he is with another decent performance.Craig Easton is not getting enough credit today in my opinion -MOM for me and not just because of his goals.Macnamee a close second-fucking exciting player and needs a long run in the side.We scored great goals last night through excellent approach play. The first penalty was almost laughable -the Ref couldn't have seen anything from where he was standing and the lino gave a corner.Ashikodi looked lazy and the prospect of him staying til the end of the season doesn't thrill me at all-Sturrock is better. Chris Allen looks a far different player than the skinny kid who played against Brighton-pretty impressive. And leave Malpas alone-he's doing ok by me-what do people expect? The only gripe for me is the preference for Smithy over Brez, everything else Im pretty happy with.Still a decent game til the ref decided to take centre stage.

I loved it last night!

First class entertainment, from the good performance in the 1st half, the shite ref, the backs to the wall job when down to 9 men, the works!

It obviously helped that we got the points as well

Smiffy in goal made some great saves and should be applauded and encouraged, not slagged off.

Ifil still looks a bit dodgy, but he's a crowd favourite so can do no wrong.........

Thought the teams formation and tactics were perfect at the start of the game, well done Malpas.

I seriously hope he goes on to be successful here, especially after the shit he's been given so soon into his tenure.

Will be a tough task at Orient next Tues, with Peacs and Paynter out, but whatever the result I won't be getting on MMs back, he derserves to start next season with HIS players playing His way (If it doesn't work out, we can all abuse him next September  :D

Moses has a metal plate in his leg from when he broke it, and after he went in for the tackle that got him booked the plate was giving him some trouble.

and also regarding Phil Smith, yeah he was superb last season but at the moment he simply isnt as good as Brez, u cant pick someone because how good he was a year ago, like some on u post the usual 'you forgetting how good he was last season' thats irrelivent, if Malpas dropped Brez cos of 1 mistake at Forest then Smith should be dropped for the mistake before Paynter got sent off and the 2 goals at Oldham.

The point is that Brez hasn't been that good himself this season.

Smith has made some mistakes, which get highlighted. He's also pulled of some great saves, which get ignored by the hoardes of Brez bum boys.

Brezovan makes mistakes and they're overlooked.

Booing a player because he's not who you'd pick is pathetic and moronic and people who do this are grade A cunts.

(Just my personal opinion like........)

They should have been able to take a point from that game, but they were so shit they couldn't.

They only robbed themselves. Good backs to the wall performance from our lads. All worked their bollocks off except the amazing (time) waster Moses Ashikodi

I bet airport security screw with him every time he leaves the country.

Also, he apparently scored 2 in the stiffs yesterday - 4 in 3 games. Me thinks it ain't hurting that bad!

Edit (2) - team from Yesterday-

Peter Brezovan; Jack Winter, Sean Morrison, Ady Williams, Andy Nicholas; Christian Roberts, Kurt Hammond, Sofiene Zaaboub, Callum Kennedy; Blair Sturrock, Moses Ashikodi

Quite a strong reserve line up really.

I cant be bothered going back through the thread but has anyone noticed on the OS highlights the commentator said it was ifils challenge for the penalty when it was blatantly minge, even said ifil on the report on Teamtalk.
