Title: Can we still stay up
Post by: Phil_S on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, 11:01:34
Just had a go at the BBC predictor thingy, & admitedly being a tad optomistic had us as staying up with 3 wins & three draws to stay up with two points to spare on 47. Am I totally mad or is it still possible ?

Can we stay up? - yes until its a mathematical certainty against it.
Will we stay up? - no because we can't win to save our lives and pretty much everyone around us are winning.

I can't see us winning more than 1 game between now and the end of the season let alone 3 or more.

Sticking to my optimistic outlook and ignoring the increasingly noisy doubts, yes - most definitely!!

However, I really expected us to beat Hartlepool on Saturday.  That was our chance to turn it round and kick on.  I cannot seeing us ending our winless streak at Brentford, so it's all starting to appear a little hopeless.  Nevertheless, it's a tired cliche that anything can happen in football, and in the words of Murray Walker, it usually does.  We've got a ragtag, horribly assembled squad of lower league journeyman, players who had promise pre-joining Swindon and overpriced flops and Hart doesn't seem to be the man to get them acknowledging their true ability.

We may as well go for it now, only wins will do.  I just hope Hart sees this.

We will pick up 3 points between now and the end of the season, we will finish bottom and we won't register a win to pick up said 3 points.

hahaha @ winning 3 games.

There will always be hope whilst its mathematically possible but we are dog shit and the other teams down here have all been winning games, and several have games in hand. I don't think our players have got the attitude/spirit to put up a fight. Judging by some of the twitter updates they don't seem to even give a fuck that we are down there.

which is even more of an embarrassment when the current bottom team has had 10 points deducted from them.

I just hope to god that Hart isn't here next season. once we're mathamatically relegated i'd say get rid of hart and then get someone in quick who can have the last two games to look over the team and then re-build in the summer.

We're now in the totally embarrassing position of being the least winning team in the Football League...even fucking Stockport have won more than us.

It's a bit worrying to see Cobblers vying with the deadmen....they only just went last season, and would be a similar sized club to us insofar as they could attract Gary Johnson, the calibre of manager many Town fans wanted.

That's the most depressing of all the depressing facts I've heard lately.

Are you sure? Attendances of 4-5000 and a ground capacity of 7,653 (which they haven't filled once since they moved to it in '94) is a similar sized club?

You realise that means picking up 12 points from 6 games. And that we've only managed to accumulate 13 since the Wendies game at the beginning of December? That's 22 games ago!

Yes, you're completely fucking deluded.

I think the question should be more along the lines of "when we get relegated, do we still get behind the team for the reamining games or do we let the fuckers have it?"

Yes I'd say so...a mega club is going to get attendances of say 60-80,000

A very big club will get attendances of 40-60,000

A big club 20,000-40,000

Middling clubs will average 10,-20000

Small clubs > 10,000

Next season with perhaps the exception of Bradford City...we'll be in a league with a lot of other small clubs.

Your last category accounts for half of all league clubs.

Indeed...the lower Divs of FL is made up of largely small clubs, usually in some kind of financial mess caused by trying to escape their natural state. Occasionally clubs can escape, but I'll hazard a guess, if you look at a random season like 68/69 and study Divs 3 and 4, most of the clubs will be in Div 3 or 4 in 2010/11.

That Doesn't make us the same size club as Northampton.

Ok... looked at that and of the 48 sides in Div 3 and 4 that season, 4 are now playing at championship level.  Reading, Watford, Donny and Swansea.

You could say that Reading and Watford have done enough, to be now be classed as middling clubs, Swansea could be making that transition as well.

The 10 clubs lost to Conference or lower since then shows it's become easier to drop down than go up.

By your argument that makes us "the same size" as Supermarine, Salisbury or Purton

I think it can be done with 5 wins out of 6 or 4 wins and 2 draws - basically 14 points required

The trouble is when you havent won for 18 games its hard

BUT ... if we can win at Brentford tomorrow and somehow edge out Franchise - we are on a roll and in with a chance ...

Sheff Wed - Notts Co - Hartlepool - Tranmere - isnt the hardest run in - a point at Wednesday followed by 2 home wins would mean a result needed at Tranmere

Lets keep faith and hope tomorrow sparks the revival!

COME ON YOU REDS

That reminds me of something my missus was watching last night about women who had sex changes.
There was one who "bloke" must've been in his/her sixties and had a long grey ponytail like Francis Rossi used to and was talking about his vagina.
Eurrgh, not something you want while eating your tea.
