God help me before i rip the effing thing off the garage ceiling. I have a FSL in the garage '5 twin tubes 58w. I have replaced the two bulbs and a new starter, i can only get one bulb to spark up the other just about glows at the ends. When i turn off the switch the bloody things wont come on and when i twiddle the starter i can get one to spark up. Can anyone with more electrical knowledge enlighten me as to what the fuck is going on and how to fix it? Thanks.

I'd take them out and replace with standard bulbs. Fluorescent lighting's a bit old school now, isn't it?

If its an old one, they had big capacitors to fire them up as well. they used to fail a fair bit when I knew about that sort of thing.

When you say standard bukbs what do mean? I wouldn't know, hence my question. |

If its an old one, they had big capacitors to fire them up as well. they used to fail a fair bit when I knew about that sort of thing.
Give my an estimate of "old". I put this one in maybe ten years ago. |

Erm, normal light bulbs not fluorescent strip bulbs. |

Pretty much, yes. I just don't see the attraction of fluorescent lighting. It was big in the 1970s, and has been dated ever since. It's unreliable and the light is of very poor quality...and prone to flicker etc. Take it down and move on. That would be my advice.
