Title: Junior Takeover for Walsall game
Post by: pauld on Friday, October 25, 2019, 17:55:21
For those who have kids (or friends with kids) who haven't yet sampled the, erm, delights of a home game, the club are having a push for a"Junior Takeover Day" for the Walsall game. Under 11s go free, FanZone, family friendly events outside, players meeting kids etc etc.
Wellens and Doyle out promoting it at Football in the Community half term courses this week:

But, but.... What about the schools

It's interesting what Wellens says here.... at the end of the article about the Walsall day....

Quote
He added: “I want my players to come out in environments like this and interact with not just kids but supporters too.

“But, if our supporters are going to be negative to players when they’re on the pitch then it’s harder for me to tell the players to be here or there for presentations or coaching sessions.

“They probably think ‘why should I support the local community when I’m not getting full support from them?’

There might be the odd thing contractually, but it is very difficult to get players and also staff and go above and beyond the call of duty. You might get the odd one or two and an odd senior player who perhaps thinks of getting some coaching experience for post playing career.

The best way to go about this stuff is through FiTC, but people need to realise the curious symbiosis here, although FiTC wouldn't exist without the club, they are completely separate, and as such FiTC can't rely on STFC staff.  So in an official sense these sort of occasional special events are fine...

I'll return to the original point raised in the week... Wellens needs to  :zipped: it, players not wanting to do the out of hours stuff has nothing to do with fans, but everything to do with players just not feeling suited to say teaching 30 stroppy kids after school, or having to get back to London etc because they've stuff to do and are feeling a bit knackered.

Is this from first hand experience or are you making wild assumptions on what the players do

Not sure that that's still the case. FITC now seems to be the STFC Community Foundation and, as such not "completely separate":

You could always enquire of them what role the Ambassadors undertake:

1st hand... albeit not for a while.

It'll be to meet the requirements of charitable status. As I said there is a symbiosis but it is separate... insofar as like the Eadie Trust were happy to give the bequest to FiTC, knowing there was no way the club would be able to get it, but would benefit in a PR sort of way.

Let's imagine that because of weather, STFC wouldn't mind using te plastic on the Extension.... it might be possible but I'm sure they'll have to get in a queue like anybody else.  They woudn't have priority.

Wellens and Hunt were out coaching a local grassroots youth team in filthy weather yesterday evening ahead of today's trip to Crawley.

Yes, certainly possible and happened a couple of weeks ago:

They normally have the FanZone thing out from about 1pm IIRC, but may be worth checking with the club
