Title: Plymouth Vs Swindon - Official Match day Thread.
Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, October 22, 2011, 02:25:55
So i'm quite drunk right now,

But i'm going to this game tomorrow as it's my "home" game now.

Taking a few people that have never been to a football game before, including a guy from Canada who we've only just stopped him referring to it as soccer..

So a hammering would be lovely.

However i think it'l be close, but we'll win. 2-0 Town.

Also i'm on for 4 wins out of 4 when starting match day threads!

Bad time to play Plymouth as they've had a couple of good results of late...  They were a banker for a defeat early in the season for my accumulators.  I think we're all used to Swindon raising expectations one week before dashing them the next, hammering a table-topping side before succumbing to a lowly relegation candidate.

1-1 I'm going for, with a late Montano goal for us.  If we win, then its time to get excited.

I will be there also. Reckon we could have upwards of a 1,000 there. If last weeks team turn up we will win by 2, if the Burton team turn up, lose by 2!

They are good going forward but crap at the back. I'll go for 4-2....Not sure which way!

2-3. Reckon it'll be close but the way both teams can defend there's gonna be goals.

Did we ever get to the bottom of the reason Kerrouche didn't make the squad last week? Wasn't it "personal reasons"?

Edit: for those that are a little mongy that's a win for us.

Family bereavement wasn't it?

3-1 win to us today.

Yeah that's right Barnard. I'm driving down soon.. better stock up on red bull.

Will be happy with a draw. Other than "that night at the Valley" I haven't seen us win away since Walsall 2006.

2-0 Jervis, Montano

On the up side, at least their sale didn't go through in time for this game. On the down side, we hardly ever win at Plymouth! So a 2-1 defeat - hoping it has a similar effect to last Saturday.

anyone have any knowledge on best place for parking for the match?
seems that there's a carpark on site that could get stuck in for a long time after the match - are there any others decent options around?

Got a feeling we'll lose today, 1-0, Plymouth are in good form at the minute and their takeover is about to go through which means they'll actually get paid!

The site car park is huge and relatively simple to get in and out of. Think it took me about 10 mins to get out last time. Must be plenty of other places nearby but watch out for residents parking.

Im calling 2 2 all draw and with our away form i'd be happy with that
even given we are playing the worst team in the worst division.

Despite last Saturday's win, I can't see us winning at Plymouth.  I'd take a point, but feel we'll lose 2-1.

3-0 Swindon is much more believable than an unchanged team.

I can actually listen to this game today (been busy the last few saturdays) so im hoping for a Swindon goal fest. But, i'm predicting 2-2

Na fuck it, im predicting 2-3

Our away form suggests another defeat today, although if we really want to go up this season DiCanio has to win this sort of game. Win this and I will be confident of a good remainder of season, lose and its mid table just outside the play offs.

After a win away last weekend, we need to avoid defeat.

Would be great to win, but would be satisfied with a point.

Have a feeling that we might just sneak a win by the odd goal.

With the doom-mongers here, predicting a 2-1 defeat. Based on last weeks performance no reason to believe we couldn't go there and get something, but I'm allowing for the "Swindon Town factor".

Never an easy place to go and play...And I think there's a fresh energy with CF in charge.

I think a point would be a decent result. 1-1. Jervis to score.

I don't want to add to the misery, but is anyone else a bit disappointed so many of our players are loanees so early in the season despite signing so many over the summer?  If it gets us points, all is good, but would like to see Kerrouche play at least after the start he's had!  Versus Crawley he looked electric...

Where's Miles Storey these days?  My Crawley supporting mates reckoned he was our best player when he came on!!

I don't mind a shaky start as we usually do well after 10/15 mins. It's when we have the stronger start that it usually goes to pot.

Great result. Promotion winning sides grind out points like these.

Good to see the Pikeys scorer today was sent off, so he can't play on Tuesday. Just one point off the Pox.

Best goal we have scored for a long time, lovely sweeping 1 touch stuff between about 5 players.

We weren't great today but didn't need to be.

Nice touch at the end with the players all going over to Paolo, he was clearly pretty emotional

Just back from the game (live in Exeter). Poor game of football to be honest, neither team kept the ball down. Never really troubled by Plymouth's attack with Flint immense as usual. The goal was well-worked with some nice touches and a well-placed shot from De Vita.

My main gripe was with Ritchie. He needs to be dropped, no distribution, no end product and just constantly went down looking or free-kicks. Looks like he could do with a rest.

Forgot to add, a special mention goes to the pissed up kids/cunts who spent most of the 1st half arguing with, and being ejected by, the stewards. Think they must've watched Green Street the other night.  The stewards were a bunch of twats themselves to be fair but they made it too easy for them.

Didn't spot a fat ginger cunt so can't confirm if Crispy was involved or not.

First game of the season for me.  Joys of living abroad.

Didn't the that we were that good.  Ritchie didn't do anything.  He looks too lightweight for the league to be honest.  The big guy up front did well though.

Boy we don't half have a load of twits as fans.  Got kicked out of my seat when 40 pissed up idiots decided that they all wanted to sit in the three free seats at the back.

The stewards should have extended the size of the away area, without having seat numbers they need more free seats then visitors.  I think that it was pretty much full today...

Shameful to see that one of our lot got ejected because he'd pulled his pants off.  The dangers  :pint:  8)

Still, it was great to see the team.  The goal was quality.  We could have scored another two like it, but for the poor finishing..

Agree with most of that, Ritchie was poor but I'll put that down to a bad outing, still our best match winner on his day.

I was also near the back, lost count of how many of those coked up pissed twats got chucked out, they don't even watch the game! A real stain on our club.

After saying De Vita wouldn't cut the mustard this season - after seeing him playing one game, I must now say that I have a bit of a man-crush on the fella..

His transfer to the left wing has totally transformed him, he looks like he's played there his whole life -chipping in with some great goals as well and his latest effort sounded like a cracker - can't wait to see watch Football League Review tonight!

For some reason, when he scores I always sing this song in my head - substitute the name 'Bobby De Niro' for 'Raffa De Vita', and substitute the word 'Actor' with 'Player'...... and voila - a rather camp terrace anthem is born....

First time I've seen them this season. Typical 4th div rubbish but plenty of effort and not a little bit of skill - I get the impression if this team played together each week we'd be right up there.

Ace goal celebration true, however it was a goal against the worst team in the 4 leagues, and a team made up mainly of youth players / rejects still looking to get a decent wage packet. So god help us if we ever get to the dizzy heights of scoring away to, say, mighty Barnsley...

As for the idiot schoolboys: do you really think it's OK to abusive a bunch of people just earning a few bob being stewards for a few hours? You acted like you've just learnt a few sweary words from your big brother, and you've just had your first illicit swig of your dad's bottle of whiskey. Grow up you bunch of fuckpigs.

Good spirited performance from the team - they did seem to want it, epitomised by the goal celebration.
This really was a League 2 style match with not a great deal of quality but if we can win ugly like this occasionally I'll be happy.
Comments on a few players:  Was impressed with Ridehalgh today; first time I've seen him.  As said before Jervis ran his socks off as shown by him lying down on the grass when he came off.  Smith is getting better and is certainly worthy of his place in the team now.  Foderingham looks composed and this gives the defence confidence.  Montano didn't get in the game at all so surprise he came off.  Ritchie showed a few moments of his class but too few today.

As others have said, the goal was sublime.  Overall we created too few decent chances and those we did were typically blasted high but this can all be forgotten.  The 3 points are good to get and we need to capitalise on this with the next 2 home games.

All in all a good day out and luckily I sat far enough away from the pissed-up twats at the back not to be directly bothered by them.

Good result today. No matter what you might say about Plymouth's league position, they've put a couple of results together and looked ok today, if not brilliant. They got the ball down more often than us, and passed it around better than us. Thankfully we did defend well enough to restrict their chances - the stats say they had 8 shots on goal but only 2 or 3 of those really tested the keeper.

We didn't play particularly well, although it wasn't the worst performance I've ever seen. There was a bit much hoofball and not enough composure on the ball, but there were just two or three glimpses of quality, one of those being the goal which was pure class. If United/Barca/Brazil had scored it people would go crazy over it. Quick passing, pulled the defence apart, and De Vita did very well to finish it calmly.

I'd be tempted to start with Kerrouche on Tuesday, over Montano. If we can get a win then things will be looking quite bright.

As usual i will post and trawl back.

Was'nt due to get to this game so today was a bonus.

Drove over the bridge from Kernow to Plymouth parked up and straight in the ground, cash on the gate.

Refreshments? Decided not to stand in the hour long queue.....i know they are skint but fuck me.....two people serving was a joke.

Met up with JJ....asked where Herthab was???  Information classified!!

Game was division 2 shite...scrappy and poor.....ref did his job to ruin a bad game with dickhead decisions .....how the fuck did that Argyle player get booked for hand ball after the ball was blasted into his elbow???

Main points...De Vita has found his best position...good touch.  Montano wasnt at the races and moaned at the ref...the ref was shit so why keep moaning?

Ritchie was dog shit today IMO and Ferry wasnt far behind.

Smith and Flint were good value as was McCormick, me and JJ noticed Flint pulled up at one stage so i hope his groin is ok.

Kerrouche was wearing flip flops and kept falling over...wear some fucking studs man.

Goal was a rare piece of quality in a shit match, muff should of scored with that bullet header and our keeper earnt his corn with that save.

Nice to see us grind out a win in a match like that....roll on the pikeys...

If you'd have been to other games this season you'd know that accolade belonged to Barnet and Plymouth are on the turn around so for me a victory at Home Park is a fantastic result now.

The game wasn't a classic by any means but a fair few of us have seen us play much better than that away this season and come away with nothing.  Nobody hid today and the team really wanted this win.

As for the goal, if we score a better team goal this season then it will have to be amazing.  They moved the ball so quickly and acurately and Plymouth didn't know whether they were coming or going - terrific goal.

As for Ritchie, too lightweight?  Nonsence, best player in this division by a mile, not his best display but still came up with a few moments and created a couple of chances.

What an absolute tit you are mate. Try and get to a game once in a while and you will see that we have played some lovely football this year, encapsulated by our wonderful winning goal. Has to be one of the goals of the season.

Yes we were not brilliant today, however, this tells me that we have the werewithall to come away with the points when not at our best. In fact I would say that Smith, Foderingham, McCormack, Ridehalgh (in 1st half), Jervis (in 2nd half) did more than ok whilst the rest were slightly below what they have produced this season.

I truly beleive that we will be champions this year and have said so for a couple of weeks!

Dont even think he's our best player personally but each to their own. Although I think its good that for him having a bad games means not scoring a couple.

Playing shit and winning is music to my ears, at this moment in time i'd rather here that than anything else - its the one thing we've really not done thus far this season. Another 30 shit dull, boring, horrible 1-0 wins will do.

I do love it when a player wins over a crowd.  I don't go regularly anymore so I have no judgement myself, but it sounds like De Vita's change of position and upturn in form has turned him from whipping boy in to potential crowd favourite.  Which is nice.

I would have Simon Ferry down as our best, in my opinion.

You have to remember that Simon Ferry was a vital cog in our play off season - more so in hindsight as our midfield went to shit without him the following season. Ferry has shown he can cut it at top level of L1 with the best of them - Ritchie hasnt done that for us....yet! couldnt get a game in our play off season and wasnt anything great last season admittedly in a god damn fucking awful side.

I also think our results have picked up this season since, again Ferry has been starting to play on a regular basis.

I also think he puts in more consistent performances - you'll more often than not get a run of 7 out of 10s from Ferry, Ritchie you're more likely to have a 5 one week, a 9 the next, followed by a 6 then an 8.

i'm so pleased for de vita, i spent the whole game against cheltenham (as in second game of the season) biting my tounge because some fella kept saying he was crap and would never be good enough.  Then away at Burton some other guy couldn't wait to get on his back - apparently him winning a header was 'rare' despite him winning nearly every single one for the three or four games pervious...

him and ritchie have now got, is it 9 or 10 between them from the wings?  that's brilliant and if they keep that rate up we'll be good

That's Ritchie our second highest goal scorer, as long as he keeps chipping in with a few he's allowed a few off days surely?

Teams have realised what a threat Ritchie is, he hardly had a sniff against Hereford because he was double teamed for the whole game, with his markers not allowing him space or room to move - I imagine other teams will be doing the same.

Ritchie got the assist today didn't he?...i agree that he could be more consistant but to be honest that could be aimed at all our players.
My feeling is that up to now Paolo has shown that the slackers wont get in,by his standards he hasn't been his best the lat few weeks but his work rate makes up for that..and thats why he is in the team.

I wouldn't begin to say for a start that we don't have our fair share of idiots....all clubs do, but some of you tits on here need a reality check because what happened today was caused by poor organisation and lack of common sense from a stewarding stand point.

There was clearly a couple of hundred too many in that end and a bit of common sense moving the segregation over would have nipped any potential trouble in the bud early doors. Stewards were pushing lads in to areas where there was no space, then chucking them out when they resisted because there was nowhere to go... that's why people got nasty. You lot can believe what you want though.

Did a stop over down Plymouth and have to say it was blooming amazing...I managed to trapse out of a casino at 5am and was up early doors for a pancake breakfast...very nice!

Game wise wasn't the best but we played some blinding stuff at times and as many have said the goal was pure class!

Police/Stewards poor today and the fact the back row of the away end we weren't allowed into, stewards putting people in packed areas and people getting chucked out for pure nonsense it was shameful...it can be easy to get on our fans backs and every club has their idiots and i don't condone that behaviour, but the police/stewards were over the top and a lot could have been solved by moving the segregation across another 10 seats!

Away Day rating: 10/10 from me and 3 points

Scrappy game today on the whole but again some good individual performances.  Flint immense again, and for me Smith had a really good game too.  Ryvita  just keeps improving on the wing.

Brilliant celebration from the players after the goal and their reactions and interaction with PDC at the final whistle shows how far we have come in terms of team spirit and togetherness.

Just a real shame that A minority of so called 'fans' seem intent on causing trouble and tarnishing the reputation of the club by association.  Some were so far out of it they should never have been allowed into the ground!  I don't doubt for one minute that some of the stewards were rather heavy handed, but they were reacting to the actions of a group of mindless ejects !

Anyone else close enough today to spot that Mark Issacs was close to where it was kicking off in the first half .  I hope he
took note and the club are able to take action.

For the trouble today, blame has to be shared between the mong element of our fans and the ridiculous attempts of stewards to do a simple job. If legally allowed, it would have been simple to move the segregation. If not allowed, then they could have easily opened up the back row, or made more of an attempt to move people to the areas where there were still a few empty seats. Instead they just penned people in and aggravated the situation.

Not that any of that gives people an excuse to react as some did.

You really are a prat. I would hope that Mark would be embarrassed by the lack of common sense and organisation shown by Plymouth, 1500 empty seats and they chose to pen people in areas where there are no space. It was a completely avoidable situation that they caused themselves, but no blame the fans or 'fans' as you put it. Blaming fans is an easy option when pisspoor organisation is the cause, yorkshire police have been blaming liverpool fans for over 20 years now.

And what exactly qualifies you to determine who is a fan, or who is a 'fan' might I ask?

I'd suggest a fan is someone who pays attention to the game. Most of these twats barely had time to look at the pitch between the goading of stewards, breaking seats, etc.

Yes the barrier should have been moved to free up more room, baffling why is wasn't, but the reaction of these extras from Green Street was fucking embarrassing.

Spot on to be fair, can't argue with that. While I wasn't directly involved I was in the general area and know that a few lads that did get chucked out weren't really doing much wrong and were paying attention to the match. Its not impossible to think that due to the lack of organisation people that would have otherwhys not been interested in that sort of stuff happen to end up involved, hence the frustration at the 'fans' comment. Seems a bit pompus to me.

Lads who are breaking seats and stuff like that deserve to be thrown out, but a lot of the time the wrong people end up suffering, again due to lack of organisation. But some of our fans have difficulty understanding that not everyone who travels on a train and has a few beers is a complete cunt, or 'fans' as they like to put it.

Anyways 3 points gained, you reds :-)

At one point, the retards were too busy arguing and trying to break seats they didn't notice Plymouth almost score.

I was down that end and whilst a lot of them were no angels the whole thing could have been avoided by moving the barrier 10 feet across. By refusing to do that ( a steward told me at half time it was stadium managers decision ) and then having the stewards stand amongst them it was always likely to kick off. It wouldn't have mattered one bit with 1/4 of the ground between us and Plymouth and would have meant they could stand together etc rather than trying to force them into the odd empty seat here and there.  It was like the old days when you were treated like shite and guilty until proven innocent.

And if they were deemed to be too pissed why not decide that outside before you take 20 quid off everyone ?

Poor game. Scrappy. Ref was a homer, but we managed to overcome that. Great goal. De Vita turning into a vital player. He does have a cool head in front of goal.

Im happy to have the kids causing a nuisance, because if they werent there then the stewards would be hassling fans like me who just want to stand and support the team vocally. They make me laugh, they are mad and off their tits.

We cannot things slip this time. We gained another 3 points on the cunts. 6 more this week please.

I think this was Plymouth getting one back on STFC. The last time they played at STFC (it was midweek), they crammed 880 - 1,000 Argyle fans in the Arkells away section and did not move any on to the the bank as an overspill. It looked particularly uncomfortable in there and they were still arriving after KO.

Argyle play at poxford this Tues night. Wonder if any of them will stop off?

Well just got back from my weekend away, awful poor game but we got a probably just about deserved goal, 1st half we were pretty poor, 2nd half we passed better than them.

Ritche was very poor, was involved in the goal but thats about it, he lost his bottle a bit after he was chopped down in the first half, but hes allowed a poor game every now and again.

We were poor up front 1st half, Jervis and Montano had little service at all and what they did have was hoofed up to them from the back, yet when we played the ball on the floor we were much much better than them.

Flint was awesome and I hope his groin twinge isnt serious as he won every ball in the air, if he can learn to pass the ball the guy will be an international in a few years, so much better than Tozer or Morrisson ever were or even ever could be.

I wish that Flint wasnt the only target for corners and that he didnt stand outside the box and run in, get him in there and in the mix because he will win all the balls played into him.

Foderingham looks excellent, claims crosses and punches well, not bad for a short keeper. Made one fantastic save that looked goal bound from a bullet header from a corner, please can we keep him, good kicking even when he slipped on one goal kick it still reached the half way line.

Plymouth, very poor, no ideas up front, hoofed the ball every time, were dirty and niggly and will struggle big time if they dont pluck up their ideas.

The ref was so inconsitant and missed a lot of bad challenges against us, or maybe he was a homer, his refereeing ruined an already poor game.

Still.....an away win is an away win.

The goal, not much else to add except that it was a fantastic move and finish, excellent goal worthy of winning any game.

Some of our fans make me despair but also some poor stewarding too which acted as kindling, could easily have got worse than it was.

The reaction of De Vita when he scored was warming to the heart, it showed what the win meant for the players, and also the way that every player went over to PdC and not the other way round, and hugged him, Paolo pointed over at the Swindon fans and you could see that he was saying....go on over to them...but they didnt, they made him come over for the adulation of the Town fans, who had a very good turn out, looked like there was aound 1,000 of us there.

Great win, well happy, and the Specials were fucking fantastic yesterday in Plymouth too! great weekend away.

Don't get these people saying the ref was a homer. A couple of decisions went against us, yes, but he also booked their bloke for an accidental handball purely based on the reaction of the away end, and gave us a free-kick up the other end when Caddis threw himself to the floor. I think he also missed a second handball by Kerrouche, although I'd have to see it again to be sure.

He wasn't a homer, he was crap.

My comment about him being a homer was more about what he didnt give to us rather than what he did give to them, but he was an appalling ref and missed much more than he actually gave. Not spotting the foot left in against Ritchie was embarressing, he wasnt fit to ref in th football league at any level.

Do you mean the one from the goal kick, where Ritchie tried to bring it down? In fairness, he did go back and book the bloke for that challenge.

TBH I cant remember which it was but it was early on in the game and left Ritchie hobbling for a while afterwards, it was a goal kick when Foderingham kicked it to Ritchie when everyone was expecting it to go the other side of the pitch.

Really really shit ref anyway! the way he pulled Kerrouche (i think) for pulling on a defender when he was being flattened by him just outside the box, how he didnt give that to us was impossible to understand, but then I guess the linesman didnt spot it either.

I suppose we should expect poor refereeing though being in this division because its a bit like the level of footballing ability.....the better players and refs are doing it at a higher level so the shit sinks.

Another point about Plymouth not being prepared would be food wise, queued up at half time to find no burgers, hot dogs, pies or any food apart from pasties. Literally hundreds of Swindon fans with crisp bank notes who decided to stick them back in their wallets. I'm sure their administrator would have been thrilled

I'm sure the administrators couldn't give a fuck.  They'll be getting paid handsomely soon enough.
