It changes nothing..we've still got the same problems....perhaps now even more so as Iffy has no experience of the job.

Yep, it's awful for a man to be put under the pressure he was under, but none the less it was time.

if it does go that way i think people are more likely to be singing 'sack the board', than we want iffy out.

I seriously cannot understand why you are being so negative about this - OK he's new to the job, but every manager has to be at some point.

You moan about the KOB, but you're a founder member of the OOB, without even seeing us kick a ball under his stewardship - you're even suggesting you won't give him a chance by turning up to support him.

In my book this is very bad form mate.

I did feel a bit sorry for the bloke towards the end of Saturdays match.  He was shouting things out to the players and no one was taking any notice of him.  For example even simple things like getting Jack Smith  to stand in front of one of their men at a throw in, King was telling him to do it but he just wouldn't.

That shows a lack of respect for the manager or deafness.

Just shows that he had lost the players.

Post by: le god cuervo on Monday, September 26, 2005, 13:08:47
does that mean the players wanted him out then? its certainly looked that way at times & does make you wonder about some of our shit performances.

will be interesting to see how players like roberts & nicholas react to a change of management.

Post by: Nomoreheroes on Monday, September 26, 2005, 13:09:36
It only shows that he has lost the players if Iffy (or whomever) takes them on a massive unbeaten run. As Reg says, we still have the same problems.

i just hope Iffy didn't take any notice of Kings tactics in matches.

But we have to give the guy a chance.
A nice warm welcome in cold Donny will do for starters

I think the opposite is true, in this case...

How much did Newell spend at Luton?

Bollocks. Most of league 1 falls into that definaition.

Either way he had to go:

he signed the players - if they are shit, its his fault.

If you think hes signed some good players (i do) then why are we 2nd bottom with 5 defeats in a row? again its his fault.

How many 'half decent players' did he have to sell?

During his time he has actually spent more than the going rate for a club in our league, so that's not really fair to say.

OK he had no money this term, but that is perhaps because the board backed him before and it got us nowhere.

I probably will go .. it was a knee jerk reaction .. I just think the board are trying to take the heat away from themselves by appointing someone new .. Ill give him a chance I just want someone with more ambition to take over - and I dont mean as manager but as OWNER!

To the Board - If you want a good manager at no expense appoint the guy that led Highworth to the Hellenic League title with no resources - John Fisher!! He would be cheap thas for sure!

But if you want a new direction take a chance and try and get Sir Clive down here! Think of the media attention!! Think of the extra interest!!

THINK!

I'm most interested to see how our current squad do under a new man in charge.

I feel sorry for Andy King. But what can you do.

Think of the cost!!!!

As for an ambitious owner I'm afraid it's not just a case of the board waking up one day and thinking - ooh lets sell our club to one of the multiple possible inverstors we have been hiding away for all these years.

Fatbury, you have to be realistic mate.We ain't got any money,so the chances of a glamorous outside appointment are slim.Maybe someone with a history with us ,like shaun taylor would be in with a chance, personally i wouldn't have a problem with him coming in.But i think iffy could do a job as well.

He'd certainly do better than other suggestions he has made like Trollope (I know he's your mate fatbury, but come on) and Steve White.

They werent suggestions  - i was just throwing ideas around... if we cant get someone revolutionary like Sir Clive (and i know its a long shot!) then only one man in there for me .. LOU MACARI!

Steve White was a rumour i heard about 2 weeks ago

Sad for King, I don't hate or even dislike him. It was just obvious that he didn't know how to change things this time.

Happy that we won't have the poisonous atmosphere in the ground, and that the crowd may, even if only for a short time pull together and get behind the team.

I'd love to see Macari back, but I don't think its going to happen.

I'm surprised to say the least that Onoura has actually been appointed as usually only playing legends at a club are given their first job by their club ala Stuart Pearce, Brian Tinnion etc.  I'm willing to give him a chance, but I'm a bit concerned at the youth of our coaching staff.  Perhaps a Steve Coppell-type figure will be brought in to guide Onoura?

I think a change was needed, and if this is the best we can afford so be it.  We've got a bunch of fuckwits in charge of this club and times are grim.  It's going to be a long season, but now surely the priority must be staying up and getting the fans back.  Appointing a coach with no Assistant Manager or Managerial experience will not entice the anti-King brigade back to the County Ground.

I'm not too concerned about Iffy's lack of experience. Neither Macari nor Hoddle had any management experience before they came to Swindon and they both did OK.

Of course, it can go wrong too. Adams, Tinnion etc...

Overall, I think it was time for a change. Useless fact for today: King was the 9th longest serving manager outside the Premiership.

I’m pleased he’s gone and despite circumstances looking tentatively forward to a new era.

In all honesty I had hoped for an experienced man to come in rather than look to an internal appointment more so considering the state of the squad and league position we're in.

At the end of the day if finances are that restricted then out of the three Amigos Iffy was certainly my top choice.  Plus there is the age old adage that any ‘experienced’ manager would have only been sacked previously elsewhere.  Even big Lou who would have been a welcome return was sacked at Huddersfield without managing to achieve anything on more resources than he’d ever find here.

In terms of a new man without experience coming in you couldn’t hope for much more than Onura.  He comes across as articulate, intelligent and at least sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, which will make a nice change.  Plus he has the advantage of knowing the squad from a coaching perspective their capabilities, personalities etc.

It would be advantageous to allow him to appoint his own number two if he is going to be a permanent appointment.  Preferably an experienced coach to provide some much needed know-how.

Onwards and upwards.....

I feel for him but I think it was the right time for him to go.

Not sure about Iffy, but I'll give him 100% backing, with the finance problems we have we can't afford anyone from the outside for the time being anyway.

I expect a big performance from the players tomorrow night now, especially some who haven't delivered yet this season.

Of course I'll support Iffy & of course I want the Town to do well.  But it was a huge ask of Andy King who had good contacts, an eye for a good player & worked harder than possibly any other manager in the league.

Hopefully Iffy can achieve miracles, but that's what it'll be.
