Got straight through on the phone, i was expecting to be on hold but seems word hasnt really got out that Pox tickets are on sale as i got pretty much central in the DR stand.

Stats show that you'd normally get interest for the di Canio factor, first game, v Crewe we'll be shite, and the casual fan will drop off fairly swiftly. Classic of this type 00/01...new owners with big ideas, shed load of new players after a relegation, 7000+ for first game v ColU....dire 0-0 draw so down to 4000 for the 3rd game v a very strong Wigan.

That Col U game was one of the biggest anti-climax's i can remember.  I really thought we would stick 4 or 5 past them and walk that league.

City - Adults £10.
Cheltenham - Adults £21 (Mines behind the goal, not sure on the price for the side bit, if we have even got it.)

I reckon there will be well over 10,000 for this,a good start will see us pushing 12000 in my opinion.

828 in the Arkells suggests they'll be cordoning off the bottom section (the enclosure) as the section normally houses 1200

Oxford fans always make me chuckle about how many they will bring/take to certain grounds. it's my favourite fictional series of stories.

Not that I particularly want to bring up this game, but when we played the Pox in the Cup their fans were on our forums moaning we hadnt sold out within 1 day. After 3 days we'd sold all 3500 tickets. Lots of moaning inspite of the fact they only brought 1500 to us 14 months before. Typical Pox.

So I will be a student in the next academic year, but technically not when the game happens as I'll be between college and uni.
But i have been offered and accepted a place so will 100% be going but won't get a student card until late September..

No tickets being sold on the day.  To buy over the phone, you'll need either to be on the club's database having bought a ticket that way during the last few years, or have a SNxx postcode (which, clearly, you do not have).  So if you're not on the database, you'll need to use your Dad's contacts in Swindon.

Must admit I'm thinking of taking a bit of an internet holiday for a few weeks.  Don't like the overly-aggressive vibe at the moment in the run up to this game.  It's way over the top (much more them than us, mind).  I will be going, but will be staying in Swindon the night before so as to avoid using Swindon station on the morning of the game and generally doing everything I can to avoid the mob.

Hoping for a decent display and three points for us...and then we can get on with the rest of our season.

Having not played Oxford in 9 years, this game will always attract the fans. Around 11-12,000 imo. Possibly more.

The only thing that can maybe hinder the attendence would be because it's still August, people could still be abroad on holiday.

My boys are really excited about this - as we sit in the Arkells I just hope there is no trouble around the cricket pitch entrance.

In the past, some have clearly stayed away as well because of the likelihood of trouble.  Families in particular.  I don't expect that to be any different this time around.  Derbies with Bristol City and Reading (who we've not played in while now either, I know) have tended to attract bigger crowds in the past.

Doubt there will be any trouble around the ground. There will be so much police presence etc.

It's normally in town and at the train station, if there is trouble, it'll be there.

Think it's fair to say most on here are excited at the prospect of playing Oxford again.  But not quite as excited as your lot seem to be.

When I last looked, well over half the posts on the yellows online forum seemed to be about STFC.  Flattering, certainly, but also borderline obsessive.  Supporting Oxford seems to be as much about hating Swindon as loving your own side...and I don't think the reverse is true.

Oxford have had some soul destroying away days in the last few years. I can understand their excitement to an extent. All I've read is Oxford, Oxford, Oxford recently "how great are we" etc etc. Zzzzzzzzzzz

Frankly, I'm looking forward to getting this game out of the way.

If we win we'll get a week of "Fuck off we were robbed! We still outsang you and took the terraces, streets and that" and then peace and quiet until we travel to the Stade de Trois.

I'm with you here.  In some ways, our season starts on Aug 22nd.  The Oxford game is a distraction we can do without.  I hope we win it, but the world won't come crashing down if we don't.  There are 42 games after the Oxford encounter, and this is where our season will be won or lost.

All you need to do, in such an eventuality, is to take an internet holiday.  The STFC vs STFC game happens 6 days after the derby...and I'm sure the TEF could survive without us for that period.

For some of us this game is as big as the Scummers are building it up to be. Its not one sided for some of us. This game is fucking huge. I don't work with or live with any of the cunts but I will have such a fucking piss on if we lose. If we win I'll have a fucking huge smile on my chops. Its what football is all about - its tribal. They will forever be in our shadows and I'm looking forward to putting these fuckers in their place.

I'm surrounded by Poxford both in my street and at work. Not winning this game for me doesn't bear thinking about.

 They probably see this as their best chance for a long time to take some points off us, instead of being quietly confident they choose to shout their mouths off. Results leading up to our game with them will play a big part in who goes into the derby with more confidence. Whatever the result I'll only be thinking about it until the game after. Won't be wasting my time reading what they have to say about it.

Accepted.  I'm not belittling what this game means to Swindon fans, and I accept that it means more to some of our fans than it does to others.

I'm also very pleased that, as a fanbase, we don't define ourselves - like Oxford seem to - by our hatred of a local rival.  Being a Swindon fan is about loving STFC.  Being an Oxford fan, to many, seems to be based around a vitriolic, consuming hatred of ourselves.  I think that's really sad, and not particularly healthy.  Glad that my footballing allegiance grew up on the right side of the county line!

I think this game would mean more to our fans if say we'd been regaulr L2 mid table shite. Or even L1 for that matter - in effect a season where both teams were going to finish mid table and not trouble the play offs with only bragging rights to play for.

We have got to right the wrongs of last season. Without trying to sound a bit Leeds with our budget and the on paper talent we had last season we shouldn't haver gone down. We did and we need to correct it asap.

There are only 4 eligible clubs who've never made a FL PO in their 24 years of existence....Coventry, Exeter, Burton Albion aned O*ford.   Of these, Coventry have had 10 eligible seasons....Burton Albion 1.....Exeter 19 and O*ford 20.  Which makes them just about the least exciting team to follow the last quarter of a century.  The only decent season they had in those years was 95/96, when they trailed us by plenty as we took Div 3. Even then such was the excitment generated their average home attendance was 5800.

So against this background...you can see why they're getting excited...this is their best chance for years to do something. They have all the ingredients we don't...steady manager, stable squad, and summer additions who their fans have heard of.  They very much start v STFC as favourites for a second win at the CG in over 100 years.

It will take us a while to get any proper stomach churning excitement back...

What do I expect from the season? Play offs....that's what I expect, whether we get there or not only time will tell. I cetainly don't think we'll walk it unlike MOST of your fans think your team will do. (yes I've read the thread about it).

I don't think anyone is saying they don't care.  Just that, on balance/on average, there's a little more perspective on this side of the fence.  (That's a metaphorical fence, by the way, not the one at the Kassam.)

I should also add that in saying that, I am by no means claiming to speak for everybody.  Each to their own.

Hello, another Oxford fan here. Thought i'd pop on and see what you chaps are talking about. It seems quite quiet on here so assuming there must be other forums but i'll give this a go as a few Oxford fans have found their way here.

Surprised about some of the opinions on here regarding the rivalry. I see some believe the hatred is equal but others don't. I guess we've had it bad the last ten years and hence are looking forward to it with a passion. We've had plenty of Swindon fans on our forums rightfully taking the "pee" for a number of years that we've been conference, so we're obviously looking forward to meeting you as equals and havnig a head to head contest. If you'd been through the four year hell of conference football you may eel the same.

Generally in the past when i watched Swindon and oxford i think the rivalry was felt equally both sides of the fence. Circumstances change peoples outlook in the shorter term though.

As for the opinion that all Oxford fans are retards as we think we may have a chance of promotion....well I've read the thread where you guys are pretty optmiistic but I wouldnt say that makes youbretards. You've signed some interesting players, and it's probably been analysed tod eath, it will either go swimmingly or not work at all. I think that people on here generally think the Pox will do quite well this season. I don't think people are saying that the posters on the yellowforum are retards because they think Pox will go up, but just because the output of their posts, are somewhat retarded in general.

Although the fact the link he provided only has two teams down for automatic promotion leaves me to be cautious about the retard bit.

I believe you also have a retard forum though elsewhere associated with a newspaper. Yellows forum has gone downhill since the Oxford Mail mashed up a transfer to a new format, and there were two subsequent transfers to new forums before reaching the current location. Alot of the quality disappeared at that time, as a small number of fans tried to post quick and fast nonsense to get the new forum alive. It hasn't fully recovered although in time it may.

Probably more a reflection of football fans on the internet than either sides demographics or intelligence levels overall which when taknig the four forums en amsse don't look aprticularly different.
